Reporting for the Media

Rate this book
The second Canadian edition of Reporting for the Media remains a comprehensive introduction to newswriting and reporting in Canada but now features a streamlined and concise format. Updated and designed to develop only the most fundamental skills in reporting and writing, this compact edition offers detailed instruction on key topics such as selecting the news; writing news leads and stories; interviewing; features and alternative stories; common ethical dilemmas; and grammar basics. Practical end-of-chapter exercises encourage hands-on application of new skills. Now a leading text for newswriting and reporting courses in Canada, Reporting for the Media continues to offer outstanding and unparalleled training for new journalists.

This edition sees some dramatic changes that reflect its new concise direction. Now a physically smaller book-both in size and page count-the second Canadian edition has been reduced to 13 chapters from 22 to allow students to focus exclusively on writing and reporting, giving them a comprehensive overview of only the most crucial topics necessary for building a solid foundation in their rising journalism and media careers. Fully updated yet still offering detailed instruction, this edition includes only the most essential coverage necessary for students new to journalism - including a modern focus on writing for digital platforms and mobile devices, a topic vital to any beginner student hoping to work in today's media landscape.
