I live in the beautiful west country with my big, silly dog and my big sensible husband.

I spent the first half of my working life cooking and the second half editing other people's manuscripts.

At last I have time to write down the stories that have been disturbing my sleep for as long as I can remember.

Writing my first title took two years, because the characters kept doing unexpected things. I've since learned that they are always going to break out of the mould. So I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Fully formed world and characters where we are dropped into the middle of the problem. Great pace, great world building and chatacters you want to know more about. I read it in two days, brilliant. Gritty and old west and native american and strong female lead, can I have a multi-book series please?

Jane Jago has a talent for characters. In this alternative history Western story, the lead characters have the kind of solid relationship you don't often see in books. They've had a rocky road in the past, but they can rely on one another, and pull one another out of the fire when need be. You can feel their history in the storytelling.
The story tells of Miriam and Cuchilo as they try to find out where the girls going west on the railroad are after they keep going missing.
Along the way, they face all kinds of threats - including the influence of the Church.
Part Western, part Noir, this is a really intriguing tale that you could easily see spinning off into more books involving Miriam and Cuchilo.

An entertaining surreal western

I am partial to the wolves. The MC is new to the world of this off beat western fiction tale. There is a Native American theme to the story and a little bit of religious meddling. The best it’s happen when the wolves are about

The Redhead, The Rogue and The Railroad by Jane Jago is fast-paced, witty and full of action, with a hard-boiled /noir feel. Set in an alternative history Wild West, Miriam is charged by her former boss, Allen Redhill, with solving the mystery of girls heading west on the railroad only to go missing, with evidence some at least are being forced into sex-slavery in the brothels in New Amsterdam back east. Miriam (Mer) finds herself teamed up with Cuchilo, her ex-husband, and up against some shady and powerful forces, including White Feather and the big-wigs of the Church.

Mer is a decisive kick-ass heroine and Cuchilo combines deadly power with an obvious love for Mer. The tension between the two is palpable at first and almost resolved too quickly but perhaps needed as they are soon in the thick of it, with enemies and dangers coming from every side. The world Jago creates is intriguing and feels real. There a lot of quirky characters and witty dialogue, fast action and deadly fights.

Mer and Cuchilo follow the trail of the abducted girls back east, untangling the connections with the trade and the shadowy figures behind it. Justice is dispensed swiftly and instantly with a trail of bodies where the world is clearly divided into good guys and bad guys. There is a twist at the end with a sudden change of focus and big reveal, which didn't quite jell for me, and I was a little disappointed that the abducted girls and their presumed release made such a small, almost invisible part of the story. Overall, The Redhead, The Rogue and The Railroad was an entertaining, rollicking read with a similar feel to Jago’s Sam Nero PI though obviously very different settings.

Immersive Western with strong characters and plenty of intrigue….

Jane Jago presents an immersive Western which is carried by the dynamic of ‘Miriam’ and ‘Cuchillo’ who are looking to solve a case of missing women who are being trafficked. Their relationship serves as a central theme to an enjoyable tale with a great setting and all the right vibes that make for an awesome Western.

This story has a lot of strengths including the descriptive writing style, the setting and of course the unique chemistry between our two heroes. On their travels they face various threats and deception without staying in one place for long and even struggling to find trustworthy souls to aid their cause. There’s an original native American vibe along with some twists that work towards a final reveal. Even the minor characters are well rounded in this tale of deception, grit and character.

‘But nobody has a solution that doesn’t start with a cataclysmic event…’
