Katie Wilson’s divine water colour illustrations engulf each page with soft luminous detail, beautifully complementing Harrison’s gentle verse. Nature is the main feature of each spread and aphorism with the subtle inclusion of young people to remind us that we are all part of something grander and bigger and that it is fine to seek the extraordinary as long as we remember where to look for it. From its foil decorated cover to its last uplifting promise, Extraordinary! is in fact, just that; a perfect administration for recognising miniscule marvels.

‘Extraordinary’ by Penny Harrison is an absolute gem! I love how captivating it is for children, displaying how there is something more when you look closer. It is an altogether moving outlook on life — To live in the ordinary moments and find the beauty that makes them, after all, extraordinary. “Sometimes it’s a glimpse, a picture you take. The moments you treasure, the magic you make.”

“But what of the ordinary, everyday thing? The soft, quiet moment that makes the world sing? This is the time you must listen and look. For it’s found in the branches, the puddles, the nook.”

A soft and gentle book that celebreates the amazing things about the planet we inhabit but also acknowledging the little things that surround and we so often take for granted. Richly coloured double page spreads reflect a range of natural environments inhabited by happy children and pets across the seasons. Poetic and descriptive language begs to be visualised. A lovely celebration of the natural world and our place within it - the extraordinary and the ordinary.

Such a gloriously beautiful book. This has gone straight on our favourites pile. There couldn’t be a better time to be reminded to slow down and be swept away by the extraordinary world around us.

A splendid celebration of all the marvelous moments that make the ordinary extraordinary. Spoken aloud the book is like a song with its catchy and poignant rhyme. The message is one for all ages.

Another kids book attempting to be profound but with absolutely no story within. It was a drag getting from one end of the book to the other.
