Sinners Fairytale Retellings #6

Lust: A Retelling of the Golden Bird

Rate this book
Getting advice - it’s Allure’s superpower. Or is that super-failure? Whatever it is, she gets it way more often than she should have to.

At first, it was little things - don’t buy that car; then more important things - don’t work at that place. But her biggest mistake may just cost Allure her life.

Don’t marry that man.

Allure’s lust has let her astray in the worst way. Marvin is vicious, controlling and entirely without remorse. If Allure wants to escape his clutches, she’s going to need every bit of good advice that she can get and more than a little help from the Hunter brothers.

Note from the author: This standalone contemporary RH dark romance is the sixth book of the Sinners Fairytale Retellings series. I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

🖤*****TRIGGER WARNING: Please pay close attention to the trigger warning provided by the author. It is not to be taken lightly*****🖤

WOW 🤭 This is one hell of a story!!! Alexandra K. Martin wrote the journey of a woman, going through domestic violence, so realistically in my opinion!! I really felt like I was going through this journey with Allure in real time. This poor girl really is a beautiful golden bird in a gilded cage 🥺 It was very hard to put this book down!! I love the little nods Alexandra put in the story, pertaining to A Golden Bird retelling, and past books in this series 🖤
The characters were fantastic!! I love Foxy, Allure’s adopted sister/best friend, she tells it like it is ♥️ I’m absolutely in love with the Hunter Brothers 😍 and their Momma ♥️ I really enjoyed this story, even though it will definitely take you on a roller coaster of emotions!!

Allure falls for the charms of the police chief. Even though there are red flags, she decides to marry him. On their wedding night, she learns that was a huge mistake. At a party, where she is the “arm candy” to her husband, she meets one of his colleagues. Ardyn Hunter immediately shows concern for his dirty boss’s new wife. After a particular incident, victimized at the hands of her vile husband, Ardyn and his brothers Callum and Jamie rescue Allure. With them, she learns what true love means ♥️ When Allure’s husband comes looking for his possession, she as well as the Hunter Brothers, could be in danger…..
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 💙

This was a very intensely dark and twisted retelling. It does not go into graphic descriptions but definitely use caution if you have triggers. The story is fantastic. I love how characters from the other retelling crossover briefly. We get action, drama, suspense, tears and a feel good ending. Make sure to have a bowl of cookie dough ice cream and enjoy the emotional rollercoaster you are about to embark.

This is the second to last book in the Sinners
Fairytales books.

I was glad to see the second trigger warning once I got into the book.

It definitely needed it.

The SA is dark and somewhat graphic. Not pitch black, but definitely enough to trigger some.

I felt like the Golden Bird portion was well done—if maybe a tad long in setup— but the lust portion felt more like obsession or greed to me.

I am enjoying the series and if you like dark re-tellings, this will be up your alley for sure.

Lust is the 6th book in the Sinners Fairytales universe. In this book, we meet Allure and learn more about Captain Kingsley. He was mentioned in a couple of the previous books, and while it was nice to get an extended development for a had-been side character, I much preferred reading more about Ardyn- who had also been mentioned in a couple previous books.

I think Lust is the darkest yet of this series. My heart hurts with what Allure went through. I wanted to like Marvin at first. He was sweet and attentive, but I knew he wasn’t the hero at all.

I loved her interactions with the Hunter brothers. Jamie might be my favorite of the three.

One other thing. I had a hard time being a fan of Foxy. I know she’s the best friend and we’re supposed to like her, but I was annoyed with her a time or two. She told Allure that Marvin was controlling, but didn’t realize that she herself is trying to control Allure? She wants Allure to get her permission before making decisions, impulsive or not. There’s a fine line between looking out for her best interest and controlling her actions. And then Allure thinks that when something goes wrong, it’s her fault because she didn’t ask for Foxy’s advice. I just didn’t like that dynamic of their relationship.

All in all, 3.5-4 stars. I’m kinda sad this world is almost done!

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart... I would seriously heed the warnings if you are triggered as there are many graphic scenes that may cause some issues. Now that that's out of the way, I really enjoyed this book despite its darker nature. While many bad things have happened to Allure her light continues to shine and catches the attention of three brothers who bring some of their own light. I really liked the balance between the harem and the characters felt like real people and not overdone, I do have to say that Jamie is my favorite and cracks me up. I totally recommend picking up this story if you don't mind something on the darker side.

Well written extremely dark retelling, pay attention to the trigger warnings. It was a bit to graphic for my liking; however, it was definitely worth reading to get to the ending. The story draws you in, you truly feel everyone's emotions, especially Allure. I honestly can not say enough about character development, it was amazing. I enjoyed Foxxy, she was an interesting character and truly cares about her sister. It even has brief appearances of characters from other books in the series. I recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.

Holy Lust balls! What did I read! Absolutely amazing and stunning story. If you are looking for a dark and twisted story with the perfect ending then this is the book for you (please read the trigger warnings ⚠️ it's not for the faint hearted).
Alexandra captures you from beginning to end and this well written story with take you on an emotional roller coaster, you'll be dragged in to the life of Allure and forget who you are.
But be warned the Lustful Sin of Hell might just keep you locked in the cage of the Golden Bird.
Fantastic job well done Alexandra 👏 with this instalment of the Sinners Fairytales 🖤

This is not for the faint of heart, the trigger warnings are there for a reason. That being said Alexandra handles the content extremely well.

Allure’s story is not one to miss in the Sinners Fairytale series. The romance with a few twists and turns make for a great read.

The pacing of the story and the second half are particularly good. I will now be reading more by Alexandra.

I loved this retelling of A Golden Bird so much. It had so much going on and definitely pulled at my heart. All the trauma and love the FMC goes through had me in tears. The way the author wrote the characters and the world were so well done. There are lots of triggers in this book, so worth reading. I just love the HEA!!! Well done!!!

This book was so good. It does get very graphic but it was so worth it. I loved Allure as a main character and I hope the Foxxy gets her own story at some point. Allures character growth really pulled at my heart, especially when she figures out her worth. Good read!

I loved the addition of Allure's story in the sinners fairy tale series. Allure definitely had a story filled with pain, torture , deceit and finally love. She showed how strong she was and how she could overcome any obstacle in her path with the love of her family and her group of men ( Callum , Arydn, and Jamie). I loved how we got more information on the people of the town as well as glimpses of some of our favorite characters from other books. I loved Allure and her men but I also loved Allure's best friend and sister Foxy. Foxy definitely needs her own story and her HEA.

Trigger warning, if dark books that involve extreme violence like non-consent and domestic violence are not your thing, do not read this book for your own sake. This book does have a happily ever after that is beyond what I expected. But you do have to get through all the darkness to get there. This book is about girl named Allure who falls in love with the wrong guy, Marvin. Marvin is a police chief who is not all he pretends to be which Allure finds out after marrying him. In the marriage, dark things happen to Allure at the hands of Marvin. Lucky for her, three brothers Jamie, Ardyn, and Callum, notice and try to save her.

The creativity of the authors for these retellings has been amazing. I continually love trying to spot the ways that they weave the classic fairytales into their books. When it comes to adding the sins, I’m not sure if this was exactly Lust filled however I did enjoy the story and, for me, the sin really isn’t the most important part. I think I’m more about the creative retellings. I especially like this one because I don’t think I have seen a golden bird retelling so this just added to the appeal of this book.

The author had two trigger warnings in this book both before and after the prologue, I did laugh at that. Not at the warning, of course, but where she placed it. Pretty creative. Definitely a bit more dark, not pitch black, but it could potentially trigger some.

I think the story was told very well, I like that there were little Easter eggs from the previous stories including parts of this book that were mentioned in the previous stories. Parts of the story were, of course, predictable but I did like the author’s story telling. I think weaving the story with previous characters and places mentioned in previous books plus the actual fairytale was well done. It was an entertaining story for sure.

What I really enjoyed with the story was that it was told at a good pace and I was never bored, it was easy read. I can’t wait for the next and final installment of the series.

So happy the Triggers were mentioned a couple times to triple make sure. Nothing worse than a reader slamming a book because they were an ASSHAT who disregards the warnings and proceeds to slam a book for upsetting them.

I found the beginning a tad boring but kept powering on because I am OBSESSED with the RATHE CHRONICLES. I knew the author had a plan going but for me I think I was a bit jealous this came out before Havana's book 🤣🤣🤣 (I've been hanging out for Havana's for a long time)

Now after the initial set-up it started to get good. I have yet to read the other books of the series but really should so I can find the people who are entwined. Where was I? OHHHH yeeeeeh so the author did a good job at creating a POS man who can hide his dark and twisty side. Poor Allure for being so blinded and innocent. Thank God Foxy was around to help out, she gets the job done! I won't go into too much but I will say all you people out there can BACK OFF cause CALLUM is mine. "Are you hungry? Do you want a sandwich?" Hahahhaha man he is the man of my dreams, the hair the tattoos and the body.

I guess Ardyn can come over to clean up with his ocd.

Now woman, get on Havana please or I will be changing this review 😠😑🤣

Lust, A Golden Bird Retelling by Alexandra K. Martin, is a truly fantastic addition to the Sinner's Fairytales Collection! Definitely heed the warnings, this is a dark book with many trigger topics. But it is also a great story about a woman who has been beaten down, yet rises from the ashes to soar. Allure goes through hell, but with the help of the Hunter brothers she finds the strength to become the woman she was always meant to be. The storyline is fast-paced and well written, filled with sexual abuse, suicide, corruption, manipulation, coercion, RH, romance, and love. The tale is written so well that you feel as if you are truly part of the story. The characters are well developed and engaging. The Hunter brothers, Callum, Ardyn and Jamie, are absolutely amazing! Their patience and understanding make them all perfect mates for Allure. Overall, an outstanding addition to the Sinner's Fairytales. Like the others, this is a standalone book, but if you don't read the whole collection you are missing out on some fantastic literature!

Holy crap. That was such a dark and marvelous journey. I couldn’t put the book down. Poor Allure, her heart is in the right place but she just makes all the wrong choices and finds herself in the villain’s clutches. Enter the Hunter brothers and their determination to save Allure at all costs. The story just grips you and doesn’t let you go. Such a page turner. I would categorize this as a slow burn 🔥 but the chemistry build up is so perfect for the story being told. Loved seeing how all the books in the series are tying together too.
Please note, I thought the trigger warnings were a little exaggerated BUT they aren’t. Take them to heart. That said, if you love dark romance, you’ll love this book.

5/5 ⭐️

Lust is a fantastic addition to the Sinners Fairytale series. Definitely read the trigger warnings on this but if you can get through that, this story is soo good!

When Allure got married, she believed it would be her fairytale ending. Unfortunately for her it became her gilded cage. Her personal hell with no means of escape. Until she’s rescued by some unlikely sources.

Allure is a fighter. With the help of her bestie and the love and support of the Hunter brothers, Allure is shown that she’s stronger than she thinks. I loved the storyline and the characters. My favorite characters are Jamie and Foxy. I hope Foxy gets a story of her own, she’s a firecracker.

Definitely take the time to read the whole series but each book is a standalone.

Allure wants to be independent. Since losing her parents, she's only ever had her chosen sister Foxy, who protects her from the world. Now she's out and trying to make it on her own. The problem is she attracts trouble and when she meets Marvin, she thinks she has finally had some luck. Unfortunately, it was just the opposite.

Trigger warnings are a necessity for this book. This book is dark, and involves rape, blood and death.

This book is absolutely gripping. From page one to the end, you are hooked on the story and hoping Allure comes out of her situation on top. The author did an amazing job making you feel emotions for these characters and portraying a rollercoaster of a story.

The character development was phenomenal and while you think Allure is weak, because of her ability to draw trouble, she is one of the strongest characters I've seen written. She never broke with Marvin and she had the strength to go after her fairy tale ending.

This story blew my freaking mind. Allure is a bad bish for everything that she went through she still had this amazing light to her and the guys only made her light shine brighter. This book is dark and has tons of triggers but the story is honestly beautiful. Allure being able to overcome such trauma, pain and torture to then find this amazing love with these 3 amazing men and then have the love and support from the ones she considers family to help her process and heal was truly beautiful.. Out of all the Sinners Fairytales this is by far my most favorite it is one of those stories that hits your soul and runs so deep. Alexandra K Martin you ma'am blew my mind completely and deserve way more than 5 stars for sure.

This book comes with warnings and please heed them if you are sensitive - THAT BEING SAID
This book is great! Yes, it is dark and deals with some very touchy topics but you must read all the way through to experience the strength, determination and love of Allure, Callum, Ardyn and Jamie to overcome the tragedy of Marvin. Without the understanding of these 3 men and the support of Allure's family then the healing process might have taken much longer and Allure might not be as balanced as she is.
It takes a village to help a person to heal.

You don't have read these books in sequence or have read all of them, it's your loss if you don't but this Sinners Fairytales series is Amazing!!!!

First off, heed the trigger warning seriously. This book is dark and it is completely justified. If you're good with triggers, dive in and enjoy the ride.
Secondly I was super excited to see Ardyn again. I'm glad he is finally getting his chance! And I love Callum and Jamie too. The three of them make the perfect harem. Each one provides a needed part to making Allure whole again.
And finally there is Allure. Allure's pain bleeds off the page and straight into your heart. From the start I hurt for her. Her struggle for independence and to make good choices on her own. Her fierce protectiveness. You really get to know her as a character. I'm a sucker for character growth and we really see it with her. While this story is dark, it's worth the journey to the happy ending.

This is my first book that I have read from this author and I REALLY loved it! Allure has to be one of the most unlucky people I have ever read about! I love her relationship with Foxy! You always wish to have a great girlfriend who your that close to. And her husband Marvin! I so wanted to punch him so many times! But the Hunter Brothers! 🥰😍 be still my heart ❤ Cullum, Ardyn and Jamie. Cullum is my favorite....lol the whole story kept me engaged from the start. I didn't know this fairy tale, but it really didn't matter because the story was fantastic! Great characters and character development and wonderful world building! I highly recommend this book to anyone!

*So Incredible!!! But be warned*

The triggers for this book are very real and very serious so know what you're able to handle before you start reading this book.

That being said, I absolutely LOVED every page of Lust!!! I'd never heard of The Golden Bird fairytale before so I was brand brand new to all of this. Yes, parts of the story were extremely dark but Alexandra K. Martin did so well at weaving everything together! My heart split in to a million pieces for Allure and what she goes through but as is the case with all of the Sinners Fairytales, we get an HEA at the end and let me tell you....wow, wow, WOW!!!
