It was a singular phrase my father had ingrained in me from the time of my birth. Sorry, dad. I have a feeling that is going to be a problem. You have to understand… my life has been bland at best. Everything in my life, every single day, has been scripted, organized, and neat. Calm, cool, and collected. The problem? It wasn’t real. I wasn’t like the other witches in my father’s coven. I had a chaotic storm growing inside of me and the moment these mages stepped into the picture, it began to escape. The perfect image of my life shattered. Everything seemed to pale in comparison to them. Their magic was exotic and powerful. Their pull on me nearly… well, magical. But what are these men hiding? Why are they in Seattle at my high school? More importantly, what in the heck do they want with me? I have a feeling nothing will ever be the same after meeting them. They say it only takes a singular moment to change everything. No one tells you what to do after!
Join Nova on her adventure today! This PNR slow/medium burn RH contains several dark themes that readers should be aware swearing (I know, surprising, right?), gore, violence, assault, PTSD, and sexual themes suitable for +18. Additionally, this book does have mature m/m themes that develop over time.

Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
Wat happend? Why ? How could you mess it up that much? First half got me, like really got me it was promising, interesting setting for a good story. I was like wow this book got me hooked fast, it could be super cool. Turned out super dissapointing instead. A waste of time. It could have been good but there is 1 thing that RH authors dont seem to have this days. Restraint, just dont make her she can still be amazing as a witch. But no. Just had to do that. SuperSpecialSnowflake here we go! Love Interests are blending thogether, not important also just there to appease the BAD BOY FETISH. Dont do much except staring at FMC, checking out her ass and beating people up. Oh and
See there is a weird thing when half the book is decent and then it all goes to shit and becomes a jumble of ramdom insta-love scenes, plot goes *puff* and dissappears so we could have Cringy Nicknames, Cringy Interactions, Even More Cringy Shopping/Makover Edit, plus 2 random generated What about female representation? -It woud have been better if there was none, I dare to say. Other girls/women are only added to be mean and make FMC even more special. She is not like other grilzz you see!
In the end just dont read this. It's bad, very bad. I got the impression that author just shuffled her "cool fantasies" cards, picted some at random and then tried to make a story of it. Plus some more "make it edgyy and dharkk" buffs. Plus harmfull approach at mental issues, which go *puff* along with the plot when they are not convienient.
I found this book problematic, it really trivializes some serious situations. Constantly throughout the book something would happen, probably some kind of abuse or otherwise crummy thing and the lead would be like I'm upset! Until the scene was over and then it was just done with. The first half of the book was really good, the second half felt like a different author. The second half of the book character continuity really becomes a problem, even with our female lead and most of the plot is sort of forgotten.
Needs an editor, a lot of editing problems and A LOT of fourth wall breaks.
This book sounded different so I was pretty excited but it was definitely a let down.
Descendant of Chaos was a typical ride to insta connections RH that may have had a one liner plot but even that is pushed in the background for 95% of the time in favour of going mushy feel for the girl.
I think the "chaos" part made me curious the most, I mean the damn name of the book itself gives away a pretty good idea of what Nova's snowflake status would be and I was interested in seeing that play out. I think the contrasting controlled persona Nova is trying to portray to her actual chaotic background would have been a nice addition if it had been done right. It's like half way through all of that control issues with fucking anorexia issues goes out of the window like a flipped switch just because the FMC says it's time to not be that anymore. It comes across disingenuous and mockery of a serious issue like anorexia. The story doesn't give enough space and time to even establish her as a character before she is being shoved into this cookie cutter stereotype of the genre.
The guys are sometimes blending into each other. There is not enough details like their background, their mission or why in the world would high school farce make sense for them. Also is high school meaning college here? That location is frankly an unnecessary placeholder for certain interactions to take place. Certain abrupt and jarring transitions disturbs an already shallow reading experience, the way the book doesn't build up on the actual plot makes it non impactful and the bad dude even more bland.
As the story progresses towards the end, it gets more jumbled and messy with scenes that are skipped ahead in time, tapering off weirdly or doing the opposite of what the build up was trying to instigate for example when the scarabs do come; their snarky "funny" chit chat is way different than the prior thing with John and ominous weather shit that took place. Like what dude?
It doesn't really end in a cliffhanger situation but more like a bro we had a plot we have to take seriously and Nova is thinking between the kidnappings and learning more about her as if that is an actual option?! Ma'am!
Lets start this with saying that i thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This series will be the 5th series from this author that i would now have read. My favourite thing is crossovers, whether in books or tv series, i love a good crossover episode ( thinking of you DC universe). The Descendant series is set in the same universe as The Red Masques, Vengeance and Tears of the cosmo's, but you dont have to read them to understand the story. ( no but really the other series are awesome and worth checking out)
There's alot of Alpha maleness, insta-lust and casual violence happening. When i read Raven blood for the first time (The red masques) i fell inlove with how the author writes her guys.Books with alpha assholes i normally tend to avoid, they just piss me off but with the previous series and now this book i've come to expect it, and want it.
The guys are crazy, has no problem causing bodily harm to others and are super overprotective but then again so is Nova our FMC.
Its past-paced, almost drama free with some hot action in-between. Oh and the some up coming mm themes in future books.
There's a planned 9 or so books if i remember correctly so it'll be one hell of a ride
Ok so I'm going to start by saying I love Nova!! That chick is bad! But in a good way for sure. Her attitude and just all around comedic personality is what made this book! Oh who am I kidding, the guys helped out alot! I love how this group dynamic works. It is so unlike any other RH I have read. This book truly has it all and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
If you love a good RH with a seriously strong female lead, sexy extreme alpha guys, magic, and humor this book is for you!!! I reccomend giving this book a try. Once you star though be warned that you will not want to put it down!!! Oh, and it is in multiple POV which I loved!!!
I don’t understand how this book has such a good rating. DNF 48%
There’s really no relationship building between the characters. She sees them and it’s insta lust. She talks about her powers as if they are human “my power stood up and batted her eyes” umm. No thanks .
DNF — I genuinely don’t know if a character’s internal monologue has ever annoyed me more or faster. It was all just so very wattpad-esque. And I mean that in the shallow, poor world/character building sense, not the in the fun sense. The author is far too in love with the MMCs for the bare minimum. It’s the kind of thing I’d expect from fanfic of one direction.
I needed some quick fun, it didn’t have to be great literature — just entertaining — but this didn’t even manage that. Honestly it’s on me for continuing to trust and rely on Goodreads’ ratings when they’ve all been massively inflated for at least the last year or so.
I’d recommend reading the kindle sample before buying instead of impulsively buying the audiobook for something different the way I did.
Also: why are the *adult* MMCs attending high school??? It’s just creepy, not cool.
Ok. I dont normally write reviews but I think for this book I need to make an exception. This is one of the worst written books I've ever finished. The plot has definite potential and kept me going until the end because I just wanted to see where it ended up. This book could definitely be something good but pretty much every single aspect of this book other than the plot needs improvement. I've read some later stuff by M. Sinclair and enjoyed her work, however this isn't it. The main character (Nova) is incredibly underdeveloped, and incredibly one dimensional. Which by itself, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. However, some traumatic things happen to this character in the book, and Nova "compartmentalizes" all of it immediately. Again, if this was explored fully by the author and the characters weren't so one dimensional, this wouldn't be a problem for me. However this book is so poorly written that it feels like every time something awful happens to Nova, her and all the other characters are just like, "this is fine" and move on. It trivializes a lot of serious situations and that honestly turned my stomach. Some of these situations I am referencing include graphic violence and abuse. Even though I have read objectively much more disturbing content, the lack of reaction by the characters and trivialization of this content made me more uncomfortable than I have been in a while reading a book. The violence feels unnecessary and used as an underdeveloped plot device, rather than a part of the story. There are trigger warnings in the description and they are there for a reason.
I have tried, I really have. I keep seeing blurbs from M. Sinclair, her ideas are not bad, but holy god the execution. Ive DNF'd 4 books by her and it took me two weeks to read this one through. It's like a vapid teenager writing in her diary. "His hot, sexy hotness was making me so hot!" Cringy nicknames, cringe scenes. Juvenile dialog. These are 18-23 year Olds that act like children. Insta love for the "gorgeous, hot, bad ass, God FMC" with her 6 mates that all have the same personality and all described as "sexy bad boys". The fmc is a raging pick me and had the personality of wet tissue.
Every book she writes is cringe. All of them are juvenile at best. I genuinely believe this is written by AI being told to write like a horny 16 year old on wattpad.
Oh my goodness, I so enjoyed this book. It did take an unexpected turn but it was still a good read, to say the least. I do hope the author will keep the momentum going with the excitement I found in this book.
Please oh please M. Sinclair don't make us wait too long for the release dates for the continuation of this series. I consider myself a loyal and patient person when it comes to book series to a certain point and then I'm out. Please take my words into consideration hmm.... (Gosh, I wonder sometimes if the authors are narcissistic enough to read their book reviews? Well here's to hopeful wishes that they do... lol)
Loved the story, it was entertaining and in a way emotional. Nova goes through a somewhat emotional time, in a freeing way. I love the psychos that M Sinclair writes about they are always interesting and thus remains true with this series. I'm intrigued and can't wait to read more.
I have no idea why I did not read this sooner! I was instantly hooked when Nova’s real personality shined and the guys were introduced. As always, M Sinclair gives us an interesting and intriguing plot with a great balance of characters with her larger harems. Love it! On to book 2!
Nothing really against the book. Just that I prefer a slow burn and I hate insta-love. I like the relationships to build. Main character moved in with, became "girlfriend" of, and had at least one orgasm with (I left 29 mins to go in book), her harem in the first book. They weren't even friends first.

So i was so disappointed with this series. It started off so strong and wonderful I devoured the first 2 books I literally couldnt put them down. Unfortunately after that they took a turn, I believe the author used Ai or a ghost writer finished them. Honestly though im leaning more toward ai because the constant use of "-" was outrageous. The world made semicolons and commas for a reason, the overuse of em dashes were to much... But idk they just fell so fuckin short which sucked because like I said the first 2 was so good. Also the author lists mm and there isn't not really theres 2 males in the harem that are dating but we literally see none of it and theres only one scene of sex where I guess you could say it was slight mm but not really because it was dvp. Anyways ill post spoilers down below about the decline in the books, along with my though processes as it went down hill lol. (it's a rambling paragraph 😂) Also I never knew this was a interconnected series if I had i totally would of read vegas' book first. So anyone reading check the reading order.
*** SPOILER BELOW***
Currently on book 4 of the descendant of chaos and idk if ill be finishing it. Book 1 and 2 I was absolutely obsessed and couldnt put them down, unfortunately the same could not be said about book 3 and book 4 right now. Its like the author used Ai for these 2. Theres the constant use of "- sentence then another-" and just random "- after a sentence" and then its overly wordy and honestly book 3 could of just been 3 chapters everything else was just fluff. Its disappointing af. I'm trying to finish this series hoping itll turn around but im losing faith on it picking back up anytime soon. I mean it may not be ai but its reading like it so far in book 4 just like it did in book 3. Whats worse is it could of been so so good because all the potential was there then boom it starts falling flat. Also never once to my recollection did the twins cassian or fox tell her explicitly that they're grandma was religious and abusive all cassian said was he got his necklace from her and that he wore it to remember not to be like her. Though all of a sudden in book 4 shes saying she know she abused them and that she was a religious woman it just doesnt match with the past story line. So thats also annoyed me so far lol. Also fmc acted so shocked about Vegas being preggers but river literally told her last book. Also wtf happened to the cousin whos witches went missing, which actually was fmc father figures doing? Like never once did she relay to him what her "dad" did. That was in the first book and a bit in the second then never mentioned again thus far. The inconsistencies are adding up and its erksome.... also fmc gets a shoulder tat to represent all 9 guys and literally no scene of there reactions to finding it have happened so im going to assume once again the authors just adding fluff with no future references just literal nonsense that wasnt fuckin needed or important ._. ... I can say with all honesty imo book 3, 4, and probably even 5 easily could have been 1 book if the author removed the rambling fluff. Also what happened to the Tara chick will she make a resurgence at some point? (Im currently 77% in book 5 when thinking about this). Currently on the last book and i have to say I usually love when authors describe there characters as a refresher but I dont like how this author does it she just jams all the characteristics of the guys in basically one swoop. I'd rather a author just have a index in each book describing characters then constantly repeating them. Anywho back to reading now. So im at chapter 22 of the last book her cousins there and he connected the dots himself on it being Ernest stealing his people but like homegirl could of told him herself anyways still reading like ai cuz theres been even more "-". Im confused at 76% in and volkans mentioned queen Maya and how lorcan had to go find her but why did they have to do that when nova had her number from one of the other books?!?! Also at this point im literally skipping pages bc idgaf i just want to know the ending. End of the last book and I gotta say not impressed. It was quite boring. The goodness of the first 2 books never picked up again. Also why have the creepy Tara girl and not do anything with it? Idk but whatever. Then on top of that the author added another plot device between August and Rowan being a couple but we literally never see that. Theres just one scene with the fmc and them and it literally had no mm except technically swords touched because It was dvp. Like come on now its clear it was just added to bring in people who like that in stories but never really came to fruition in the story itself. Anyways im not rating this story more than 2 and thats just because the first 2 was so good.

Descendant of Chaos was so much fun to dive into. Honestly anything with witches and gods will probably always intrigue me. So it's safe to say that Nova was a pretty interesting person. Although her father, a huge douche canoe, and John, another douche canoe, can rot in hell for like ever. Not a huge fan of either of them and I hated how the manipulated Nova. It just really pissed me off folks.
Then there's the romance which had it's pros and cons. Some things definitely made me cringe and others made me swoon. It definitely gave me serious whiplash and kind of frustrated me at times but I somehow ended up liking her and the guys together.
Don't get me wrong.. I'm still confused on some thing but I'm hoping the next book will clear some of it up. If not, then maybe another book in the series? Again, not sure but hoping to be less confused at some point.
In the end, I'm excited to see what the heck this world is going to bring me next!
We love a big harem, and M Sinclair delivers! six mages, and one witch. Granted, this first book in the series hasn't got all the mind-melting smut, but it's building up to what I imagine is going to be some soul-destroyingly good scenes.
The main character has a real personality that shines through and doesn't blend into the background. Their snarky narrating adds to the story wonderfully!
Having read a few other M Sinclair books such as Blitz you can tell this is one of their earlier works and is not quite as refined but don't let that deter you. The wonderful world-building and interesting characters can suck you in all the same.
The only reason I finished this book is because I couldn’t find a better one and I’m really bored.
It was just confusing like some things just didn’t make sense. The characters would act one way and then totally change their characters. Especially the h like first they show her as being emotional and then half way through the book they act like she’s really good at “compartmentalizing”. I was just confused.
Also way too many guys. She could have stoped with 6 why add two more?!?
I probably won’t read the next book unless I’m so bored that I have nothing better to do.
~REVIEW🖋~ The Quick and Dirty: 1 witch⚡️ + 6 sexy mages + some serious family skeletons☠️ + hidden identities😎 = DRAMA! And the makings of a great series!
Nova is the heir of the Seattle witch coven and she does her best to maintain the decorum that her father expects of her, even as he continually belittles her. When six mages show up at Nova's high school, she can't seem to resist the attraction she feels toward them even though her father has warned her away from mages for as long as she can remember. When secrets about her father are unearthed she thinks that they are the worst of her worries but nothing and no one are as they seem. Most of all herself. Nova will need to discover who she really is and her true power in order to overcome the challenges ahead of her. Lucky for her, she has 6 sexy mages to help her!
The story arc is really interesting especially as we discover who Nova really is, and I like how the author developed the relationship between Nova and the guys. Her interactions with Everett especially are HOT! Outside of the relationship piece however, the book felt a bit rushed and I found the overall tone of the book changed a few times, like the book had trouble finding its identity. Sometimes the tone was serious and at other times when I felt a situation should have warranted seriousness, the issue was approached in a very light and whimsical way. There were pieces that felt less organic or left me a bit confused (though to be fair, I was easily able to set it aside and continue on with the story). Overall small issues in an otherwise good read, and ultimately I'm really excited to find out what happens next and whether Nour and Ramsey are a part of that!
** I was provided an ARC of this book in return for a voluntary and honest review.**

I liked this much more than I thought I would, so I would give this 4.5*
The first series of her's i read is The Red Masques. That series I like a lot but I don't love it all the time just because A. in that RH there are 10 guys! Way to many..... Although in this book I think the girl may end up with 7. B. Sometimes I am not a fan of the pacing of the story as a feel that things move too slowly. And, in some books there are way to many sex scenes that are too long. Some people like that. But, I don't love when a RH feels tooo much like a erotica and one big sex scene from the beginning of the book to the end.
This book takes place in the same world as The Red Masques. But, we don't see the characters from the other book just yet. SO, for this book I really like so far the main girl Nova, and the plot of the book. She is a witch and they are mages. Her dad is a bad person, and she has to marry her friend John who is her friend and a nice guy. I like the guys we are introduced to as they all care for her, and there are only 5, but there are the addiction of 2 more at the end that might make it 7 guys at the end. I love the pacing of the story. As things are moving along quickly and didn't feel like it lagged toooo long into places. And, there was enough going on that it didn't get boring.
SO. I will read the next book. Because I feel it is a great start to the series.
I really did enjoy this story. I kept putting off reading it because my moods change much like the weather here in VA. One moment I could be like yaaas that sounds amazing and the next I could be like “Why did I want to read this again?” So yeah. Any who.
So Nova’s character gives me whiplash. It’s not in the worse way it’s just very sudden. So at first you get this reserved but sort of feisty Nova who stands up to Mages. Mainly because she has no idea they are “working” for her father. And then you get this girl who is still feisty but more comfortable with herself but still had hints of reservation in her personality. But once she comes back from Canada man this girls inner monologue becomes her outer and it’s comedy. And her confidence sky rockets. She is like a whole new person.
Nova is presumed to be your typical witch with a overbearing father that is grooming her to take over her coven. She is betrothed to John, who realistically, just does nothing for her 🤮but in the beginning she accepts. That is until she meets the mages who rock her world. See her dad had told her mages were bad her whole life. Turns out mages are only bad unless they are useful. Typical BS logic. And her dad was really grooming John while Nova would be the quiet in the background speak when spoken to wife. Like I said BS logic.
The mages Everette, Rowan, River, August, Cassian, and Fox; quickly realize that despite working for her father, they want Nova for themselves. And that means keeping her away from John. And since killing isn’t really a no go zone they have zero qualms about severely hurting him. Several times. To help drive that point home.
Things get really good when we learn the real reason why the mages are working for Nova’s father. And that is when ish hits the fan. You find out just how disgusting her father is. How twisted John is. And what Nova really is. Because a witch she definitely is not.
When I leave a review I try to tell others what I'd like to know from a review but honestly this one is really hard to put into words. I absolutely loathe the first few chapters and I can't point to a part and say that was The best bit. The FMC is annoying and has more personalities than a circus, one of which veers towards the all to perfect Mary Sue, and the guys kind of all blur together to a point I couldn't tell you who was who or who were related.
But somewhere in the chaos was enough to convince me to carry on. Again, I couldn't tell you what ever it was as really the story is ALL OVER THE PLACE, but I made it to the end.
So I think some readers might abandon it before chapter 5, others might finish but not continue the series and others, like me will let the 2nd decide.
I really love the world this author created and how different series are set in the same universe. The main characters in Descendant of Chaos are a little bit loco in the coconut and I love it. Growly, overprotective men are my thing, especially when they know what they want (or who they want, being the FMC in this case) and are not afraid to fight for her.
Combine these a-ma-zing characters with a compelling plot and you know you're in it to stay.
Read the first book and DNF'd the second at 85%, just no interest in continuing.
Okay. Used for an escape and went down author's backlist. Thing is, book was only okay, and not worth it. I should know better by now; I need to only read books that are good enough that I will really enjoy them, books genuinely worth my time.
I'll pass on future books by this author. And I'm kicking myself, I had DNF'd a prior book of hers in March and noted on Goodreads to skip this author; I should have checked first. Ugh, I know better. Fail, fail, fail.
Started good then you reach the 1/2 way point and it’s like there is a different author. I didn’t like her quick trust at that point her need to have intercourse, or her constant language after the start of the book led us to believe she didn’t like that.
If I'm honest, I trudged through the first 74%. None of the male characters have really stuck out to me, except Everett and August. The others just blend together for me. Also, I don't see the chemistry between Nova and her guys. However the plot is interesting, so I will try the next book.
