For a 500+ page book this was an easy read. A factual account of the development of the West, this book draws on first hand witness accounts by quoting from diaries, letters etc. Broken into 5 parts it forms a logical historical journey from the early settlers, through the gold rush, Indian wars and right up to date with the Western in Hollywood.
Fascinating though it was, the Indian chapters made for particularly harrowing reading.
