Willie McGee: Mountain Man: Into The West: A Mountain Man Adventure

Rate this book
Brand new frontier action-adventure from Peter Alan Turner as Willie McGee casts his mind back and relives the day when he was Willie Mountain Man!

It’s 1908 and Clarence ‘CC’ Culpepper is bored crazy! As a cub reporter for the Chicago Courier, his main duties are writing obituaries and posting ladies’ tea parties. However, when his editor, ‘The Old Scot’ Angus McDowell, assigns him to interview Willie McGee, Culpepper’s world turns upside down. Mr. McGee is turning one hundred in a few weeks. A resident of the Southside Rest Home, Willie has for years been entertaining folks with tales of his exploits. McGee claims to have been at the Alamo, scouted with Kit Carson, trapped with Liver Eating Johnson, knew Wyatt Earp, and even saved Buffalo Bill Cody’s life. Is Willie spinning tall tales or is he the real deal?

As CC Culpepper quickly realizes, Willie is no ordinary ninety-nine-year-old. From running naked through a hotel, to wanting to play center field for the Chicago White Sox, Willie increasing outrageous behavior and demands are driving Culpepper crazy. With his career as a journalist in jeopardy, CC is faced with defending McGee’s tales against a rival newspaper’s claims of fraud. It isn’t till unexpected guests show up at Willie’s birthday party, that the adventure of a lifetime really begins.

Writing has always been a lifelong dream. Finally, at 71 years young, that dream became a reality. I am honored to be part of Dusty Saddles Publishing, the leading publisher of Western Novels. Currently, I have several Western Series on Amazon: Chet Henderson: Texas Ranger Adventure Series, Bear Willis: Mountain Man Series, and Willie McGee: Mountain Man Series. Along with a co-write with my granddaughter.

In creating my Westerns, I wanted to do three things, be authentic, create likable characters, and tell a good story. With a lot of hard work and prayer, my books have been well received, so, I must be doing something right.

I live with my wife of fifty-three years and our cat Moxie on Rattlesnake Ridge. We are lucky that our children, grandchildren, and great-grandson all live close by. When I'm not writing, I enjoy woodcarving, fishing, and pampering my classic Jaguar.

I donate a portion of the profits from my books to Veteran charities, including the Veteran’s Independence Project.

Willie McGee is an enjoyable read. The plot of this book is very similar to "Little Big Man" which I read many years ago, and which was made into a good movie with Dustin Hoffman about 50 years ago. Both Willie McGee and Little Big Man have as plot a young reporter interviewing an elderly man who may or may not be telling the truth about his life. I find Willie McGee a more amusing read than Little Big Man. I think I would have liked to have met in real life Willie McGee, He was a card! I hope that the author writes many more books about ole Willie!

Willie's Birthday

The story of an old western cowboy/mountain man. Well written with a unique approach in the telling of the tail from a newspaper reporter's perspective. Definitely worth reading. I'd highly recommend it.
