Not Invisible: A Memoir

Rate this book
All Frances wanted in life was a successful career. No husband, no kids, thank you very much. So when true love swept her off her feet, she thought she would breeze through marriage and motherhood just as easily. It turns out the scars of her childhood made her a reluctant and anxious wife and mother, afraid of losing herself.

In Not Invisible, Frances explores through short and poignant essays how her fears were conquered by love---the love of her husband, her three sons, and her God, and her love for them, too. She tells stories of romance and gives tips on how exhausted moms can make love again. She shares the wonder and wildness of babies and raising young boys. She also talks about the pain of being a motherless mother.

This inspiring memoir of her first 10 years as a mommy is a story of faith, hope and love. It's about welcoming life's surprises and not losing sight of oneself and what matters. Most of all, it's about embracing all the love and joy that comes with family.

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. At times, it felt like a warm, comforting hug, offering reassurance, while at other moments, it hit me with the harsh reality of life.

Through the author’s personal slices of life, I learned so much about love, adulthood, and even motherhood (even though I’m not yet a mom).

This is a heartfelt journey that made me reflect about life in general and motherhood. This is the kind of book I’ll come back to, especially when I reach that stage in life where I’m navigating motherhood.

Not Invisible is the life story of a former magazine editor. From a glamorous life of prints to wiping poops of 3 adorable boys. Her insights to motherhood are extraordinary. Most of the time, her stories are not all rainbows and unicorns, but, they're honest and real. It's a light read but difficult to put down. Reading this book is like listening to her talk about her boys and their adventures in person over a bowl of pasta and iced-cold soda.

A wonderful memoir about motherhood

I love the book! It takes you on a journey into the author’s life and how she handles each challenge with the help and support of her husband and kids. Her stories resonated with me, being a mother of three kids as well. Easy to read and beautifully written.

It’s a quick and easy read yet poignant. Especially for me, since I’m a mother, too.

Like Hot Coffee with a Friend

That's how it feels like reading Not Invisible: A Memoir by Frances Sales. She unapologetically wears her heart on her sleeve. It is this vulnerability that makes her book a comforting read.

I particularly loved the chapter, "Mama's prayer for the lifelong work of her children." It may be because I am at that life stage when I am praying for my kids and the purpose they find in their lives.

I think this is the magic of the book: whatever season you are in your life (new wife, new mom, seasoned career woman, etc.) you'll find a nugget of wisdom to take. And it's a hard-won nugget, too, imparted with the warmth of a friend.

Brene Brown describes a human being's deepest desire which is "to be seen, heard, and valued." Not Invisible describes this in intimate detail. Grab a copy and enjoy!

Frances writes from the heart. Her book is an easy read that is all about her family. Her stories are relatable and it could easily be your family too! She is able to capture the feelings that you have as a wife and as a mom - and it makes you feel validated that you're not the only one who's feeling that way. Reading her book makes motherhood feel a little less lonely - that you have a sister who understands the ups and downs of motherhood.

honest and raw! Her stories are really coming from the heart. As a mom of two boys, I can also relate to the every day struggles of having to manage/balance life with family and career.
