Rapper Sevonne ‘Von’ Swift is at the height of his music career but with mo’ money, comes mo’ problems. At the top of that list is coping with his brother’s recent suicide. Using music as therapy Sevonne focuses solely on that and nothing else including love.
One random night he crosses paths with Entrepreneur, Brooklyn Kelly making him rethink that. She's the one woman Sevonne wants but can’t have. Beautiful, about her business, and not attracted to the bright lights yet, she’s still intrigued by his charismatic personality and the chase begins.
From that moment on the chase begins but it won’t be easy. Lack of privacy, a bitter baby mama, entitled family and friends, and endless groupies are just a few hurdles in their way and the biggest one of all . . . social media.
Welcome to Hollywood- The most addictive drug in the world.
This book could be compared to eating your best steak dinner with a loaded baked potatoe and lobster Mac served on a trash can lid 😅🥴This book was 300 pages of what felt like one big run on sentence. I had to talk myself off the ledge several times because I wanted to put this book on the DNF list badly. The storyline was really good and the ONLY thing that kept me invested and determined to see it through to the end. It’s refreshing to see the growth of an author because Kaylyn is easily one of my favorites but the deeper I get into her catalog, the more I’m inclined to stop and just stick with her more recent bodies of work. This is not a knock to her talents because newer reads have been 5 star level but this was a huge miss based off poor editing or none at all. It almost seems like a published first draft. I found myself swiping back and forth several times thinking pages were missing the way the story jumped around. Whole months were going by with zero notice. There was also no transition between moments in the book. In one sentence the character is walking in the kitchen and the the very next sentence they’re at a restaurant. (An example)
The story featured the drama involved with dating a high level rapper. Sevonne was one of the most sought after talents in the music industry and was not one for relationships. He had a few in his rotation and was otherwise content with making music, raising his son and providing for his family as they all grieved the recent suicide of his brother. One day his path crossed with up and coming beauty entrepreneur Brooklyn. She was everything that the chicks he was used to was not and for that reason alone he wanted her in the worst way. When they finally got together Brooklyn only had one request; don’t have her out here looking dumb and anything that happened better come from his mouth before she saw it on the blogs. She didn’t want any pressed bxtches trying to one up her.
Between these two they had hella snakes in the grass! Jai, Brooklyn’s mother, Sevonne’s baby mama, Brooklyn’s “BFF” and Sevonne’s “right hand”. I mean the drama had me like 😳🫣😱. If the author pulls the book, fixes it and releases it again I HIGHLY recommend it otherwise don’t waste your time. I’ve read some poorly edited books that I was able to get past but sadly this wasn’t one of them.
This story was super cute and I really enjoyed it. Brooklyn and Von were the cutest, and loved reading their journey. In this story you will Learn everyone that’s with you is not for you but love conquers all. I Would definitely recommend as your next urban romance.
Horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible editing!! I honestly cannot believe that this was even published. Gots to do better!!!!
This was a NTMA and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the story and was swept up in Von and Brooklyn's journey! The story was very realistic and the visuals were an added bonus!
Instant fan!!! When boy meets girl, girl doesn't fall for boys BS. I'm new to this author now I have to raid her catalog. Von showed himself to be a stand up man. I love when authors show our men as strong dedicated father. Brooklyn almost got slapped fifty-lellum times but she finally made me proud. Great read!!!
I love Brooklyn and Von relationships Taliah and Brooklyn Bond is the kind of bond every girl wants with their sister. Nay and Chanel had Von back to great story and ending.
Von and Brooklyn was so cute together it was ridiculous! It’s a shame that their friends allowed their jealousy ruin years of friendship. Now I wanna hear more about Ny and Talisha!!
You always have to watch your friends because you never know what their motivation is. I’m still joy sure how I feel about the momma. But Brooklyn and Bon were a great couple and complimented each other very well
Trust My Love Not Their Lies is a book that featured megastar rapper, Von, and his relationship with Brooklyn, an entrepreneur. Prior to Brooklyn, Von was living the single life with no plans of slowing down until his eyes landed on, “her”. Von went in head first but Brooklyn made him work hard for it. I loved their chemistry, it wasn’t forced, and Brooklyn truly brought out a different side of Von. I loved Brooklyn’s character, mainly because of her independence and her take no stuff attitude. And she was loyal as they come but she didn’t have the best people around her-her mother and friend, Ambriel. I think that this book was really good. I enjoyed reading about the ups and downs of the relationship and watching the love flourish between Von and Brooklyn. The relationship wasn’t all good; Von’s BM, his friend Xavier, and Ambriel definitely brought the drama! The jealousy and plotting was ridiculous but I couldn’t stop reading so I’ll say it was worth it. Overall, I really liked what the author brought with this book. The creativity was evident and the graphics (IG screenshots) was a nice touch. I’m giving 4.5 stars because there was a lot of words missing throughout the book but it really was a good read. ❤️
This book was a really good read. Enjoyed the storyline and these characters. I love the character development and kept me wondering what's happening next. I really liked Von and Brooklyn , they were made for each other. Even with all the drama, lies, jealousy and betrayal they encountered. My only drawback was all the grammar errors, missing words and typos, that at sometimes took away from the storyline. Overall, still a good book.
Brooklyn and Sevonne’s story was a good one. I really liked these characters because she was not the typical dummy and he wasn’t the typical cheater, yet the storyline was entertaining and kept me wanting more!
Great standalone. Von and Brooklyn made such a cute couple I’m glad they made it work. Can’t believe that ambriel would do that to her friend just jealous for no reason. Xavier as well how could you want your friend girlfriend , just nasty. But i love their love story Brooklyn came and shook up von whole life and made it better. Great book
This is a great standalone read. The drama, jealousy, dysfunction, and love made for a interesting read. The characters are both interesting and likeable. The author has done a great job bringing together a story that I enjoyed reading every page of.
At first when I saw the IG post from the gossip page “ScandalLeader” I was confused THEN it clicked it had something to do with the characters Sevonne and Brooklyn. I absolutely LOVED the concept. Sevonne and Brooklyn’s relationship was definitely rocky in the beginning and I can only imagine dealing with someone especially a man in the music industry BUT Brooklyn came into their relationship being there for him and not the artist he was and honestly that’s what made Sevonne drop his guard with Brooklyn. Plus Brooklyn had her own successful business she was running. I think the both of them balanced each other out and that’s what made their relationship stick even when the supposed cheating part happened. BOTH of their former friends Xavier and Ambriel were WRONG and I really can’t stand hating friends that hate and plot on you. OH and had I caught my mom and ex together in the bed I would probably fight the both of them. It was definitely wrong on both their parts BUT I am happy Brooklyn set up boundaries with her mother. Listen I still can’t get over the illustration with the added IG gossip page because I loved it. Trust this isn’t my last read of this author!
Ok, first time reading this author and let me tell you that even though the grammatical errors were at an all time high fir any author with an editor and all, (thank the lord for context clues), this book/story was the bomb 💣….. Brooklyn was actually so wrong for him, but also right and was truly testing the boundaries for a reader’s likeness because she was just plain down childish and truly not deserving of such love, she still grew on me. At the end she tightened up and saved her day. Sevonne was so bae and so flawed that he was just perfect. Didn’t like that just because he stopped something, automatically he went back to old times, he still pulled through and became the man he needed to be for Brooklyn and his relationship. I just wish we had an epilogue or something showing that he finally got his baby. Thalia, Nay, Channel, Jayden, Mimi were sooooo good and I just wish more happened to Xavier, Ambriel, Jones, Chino, Sabrina and Jai. They got off to easy!!!! Now I surely hope that I can find another perfect book like this one with a much better editing from this author…..
OK so when I initially started reading this book I got 16% into the book and got instantly irritated because of the simple fact of her implying about her beauty and how it was a struggle for her to find love because she was so beautiful at least that’s what I took from that part so I instantly stopped reading the book then I talk to my best friend who’s also I consider extremely beautiful person and I looked at it from her perspective so I actually went back and started reading the book and to be honest I let my personal feeling get in the way of me reading this book I grow up we’re people considered me to be a ugly person we all do it sometimes Let our personal feelings get in the way of something great all in all this was really really good read and amazing love story
Once again Kaylyn comes thru wit a deep one. Sevonne is not one for expressing himself and the pain he deals with. Brooklyn the giver with an overly big heart, she cant decide whether to love from a distance or continue to deal with bs. Wat starts as a physical attraction and denial game, Von finally gets Brooklyn but its not really easy to keep her, once outside forces intervene. Jealousy and envy strikes, and it really comes from left field, given that its from within the circle. The things that happen in the dark sho nuff came to light and its really sad that those you would gladly give your last to, dont have the same love and respect. Great depiction of trusting your spouse fully and unconditionally. Things happen beyond control sometimes, but when true love is involved, no one can stop the inevitable.
Sevonne and Brooklyn were so cute together 🥰 I loved them. Brooklyn made him want to be a better man and he showed her that good men do exist. I loved how he showed up for always and especially how he supported her business always giving her free promo. He was so sweet on her and I couldn’t get enough of the chemistry between the two of them, such a beautiful couple.
Xavier pure trash 🚮 I wanted Nay and Taliah to become an item real bad. I knew Ambrieal was a clout chaser and I’m surprised it wasn’t her and Xavier working together to break them up. Jai and Sabrina were sickening 🤮 no way in hell would I do that to my daughter.
I’m just now reading this because I went to read the Valentine special that I missed and realized I hadn’t heard the names Brooklyn and Sevonne so that lead me to search the authors catalog and here I am. She never disappoints!!
I’ve read a few of Kaylyns books so when I saw this in my suggestions I clicked to see what it was about. I actually loved this story. On the outside Von wax the typical stereotype rapper, but Sevonne was everything but, he took care of his family even tho they were ungrateful, he looked out for his friends and he was a good dad in spite of the bitter baby momma. It was no surprise why Brooklyn fell so fast and hard. I enjoyed the buildup of their relationship and even their support group although both had snakes and foes in their camp. I’m hoping that Nay and Thalia’s story will come into fruition soon.
Too much back and forth between the MCs which I wasn’t a fan of. The banter was good though. Brooklyn gave him hell. Not sure if I really liked Brooklyn. Saying she wanted Von to herself while he was on the phone with his son is weird. She used Jai but judged her mom for using her beauty against others. I also wasn’t a fan of them dealing with other people but I think it was to build character development. I also feel like we missed the development of their relationship. One day they went on vacation, then next it was they missed doing various things with each other.
Cosby joke was tasteless. Quite a few grammatical errors.
I read books by the author before I love her Concepts and story lines I hated to give this a 4-star rating the only reason why I did was throughout the book there were several instances where the reference to her mother words were missing and I don't know if the author knows that are not about this book but it kept throwing me off but overall the concept and the storyline were perfect it's a good love story and not your typical Street Thug meet good girl this was a good one I just need the errors corrected
These two here! I couldn’t get enough of their chemistry and relationship! The right one will make you change and want to change. And Brooklyn did that for Von. Even before they even got started and you saw that she was different. She didn’t take any mess from him but did from her mother. Her father and sister tried to tell her. It’s always the ones closest to you that hurt you the most. And the ones in this book were freaking crazy! I really hope Nay and Taliah get a story. I really feel there’s something there. Outstanding job
Brooklyn and Von were opposites but they completed each other. Once both of them opened up to each other it was only up from there. Jealousy definitely showed it’s ugly head on some occasions and it was sad. The people close to you always show you what you never saw! Sabrina was wrong and I just couldn’t get with her at all in this book. The same goes for Jai! Other then the bad and the baby mama drama this was a great read. The kids loved Brooklyn and she loved them!! They both were able to get their happiness that they deserved.
I had mixed feelings about this one. At150 pages in I kept wondering when the action would start because usually her books hit the ground running. The best friends of both really were pulling the wool over their eyes but I definitely felt like all the signs were there. Her mom and Jai, just no, lol if they exited stage left half way through the book I would have been okay with that. Overall, it was good and I would love to see a quick little novella for an update on the family.
Von once he was in he was all in. Brooklyn was about her business and she made Sevonne work for her. Who need enemies when you have friends like Ambriel and Xaivor snakes. I would to know if Taliah and Nay get together. Jonee messed up and then tried to make his life a living hell. I was glad he went hard and did what he needed to. Her mother and ex were unreal. I really enjoyed this standalone. Another great job Kaylyn. 💙💙💙💙💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Let me just start off saying that I loved this book and I didn’t want it to end. I loved Von and Brooklyn relationship and the chemistry between them. Brooklyn was my girl, she was smart and independent. She didn’t take no mess from Von and I loved it. I also loved Taliah and how she was a ride or die for Brooklyn. I think her and Nay have some unfinished business with each other. I would love and spin-off about Nay and Taliah.
Omg this standalone is lit. I love reading about Brooklyn and Von. They went through a lot with all of them lies. I wanted to jump through my phone at her Exboyfriend, momma, ex Bestfriend, and his friend X. They all did them wrong but hey at least my favorite two came out on top. I enjoyed reading ur books and looking forward to reading more. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and eating popcorn while waiting on the next book to read
I love Ms. Kaylyn’s books but this one not so much. It was kind of slow. Von was cool and funny but I just didn’t connect with Brooklyn’s character. It wasn’t anything interesting about her. I was wondering the whole time what Von found so mesmerizing about her. The chemistry between the two wasn’t there for me. Hey, every book is not for everyone. I guess I’ll just have to pick something else out of her catalog.
Jonee, Xavier, Aunt Arlene, Ambriel, Sabrina and Jai was the worst people anybody could of ever known. The Jealousy and Hate those people displayed was crazy. Sabrina and Jai took the cake how can you be so in love with the daughter then turn around and sleep with the mother? Von and Brooklyn had a lot of ups and downs but they proved every hater wrong. I'm hoping Nay and Taliah get a book????
