The Scholarly Banana Presents The Juniper Tree: An Ultra-Grim Fairy Tale from the Brothers Grimm

Rate this book
Insane stepmother. Human stew. Magical bird. This wicked stepmother is frequently dubbed the evilest villain in fairy tale history! She's also the craftiest. Literally. She fabricates her murdered stepson into a lawn ornament then cooks him in a stew!
The Scholarly Banana is a sculptural graphic novel series for teens and adults that retells old, gruesome fairy tales and tricks you into learning fun facts about them! Think creepy fairy tales meets Cliffs-Notes meets Adult Swim Claymation...meets a Banana! He's a Scholarly Banana, though. You can tell by his glasses.

Another great installment of a great series! I really love what West is doing with classic fairy tales. She's making them new and exciting and accessible to a younger (but not too young) audience. Bravo! This book was hilarious and cringey and so much fun to read!

I love diving into the history of fairy tales - bonus points to this series for the amazing claymation-style art (and the funny, expressive banana). These are fun, informative, bite-sized stories that are perfect for teens and adults looking for a tongue-in-cheek perspective of some well-known history.

Absolutely genius! The author balances photography with fonts in varying sizes to portray different personalities on the page. I find myself at a loss of words to adequately convey how much this book slayed! Hilarious too! More books should read like this!

Super snarky, hilarious, darkly twisted parody of the Grimm classic, with scholarly notations. Bloody brilliant.
