The Story starts where it left off.
This may contain spoilers.
Don't read this if didn't read the first book, Wings of Fury

“You mean I control my own fate?”
“Yes and no. Quite often, in running from fate, we end up right where we were always meant to be.”

Crown of Cinder, as I mentioned before, is a different, surprising story of Cronus's reign and his fall.

Three sisters come into their own as Hera, Demeter, and Hestia looking for their two abandoned brothers, Hades and Poseidon (why I forgot Zeus? :)). Hera's journey continues to find her brothers, to Premutous, and underworld. The good news is Zeus slowly grows up and is less gets on my nerve. :)
They should fight with four Gigantes against their father and his allies, General Atlas, Pallas, god of battle and warcraft, With his brother, Perses, god of destruction, and their cousins, Menoetius, god of violent anger and rash actions, and Lelantos, god of the unseen.

“Your value is not in how others treat you but in how you treat yourself. We must believe in ourselves first or there is nothing anyone can say, Titan or mortal, that we will believe.”

I really enjoyed King's books. I can honestly say this is the best retelling story of six Olympus siblings. I start to know Hades and Hestia who are less known in the other books. They are all so nice, not evil or selfish, support each other.
The story moves very well, the plots are imaginable, Very and well-drawn characters. I loved Selene and miss Rhea.
I'm looking forward to being continued into another book, love to know what will happen. Highly recommended (read book one, first).

”Achieving happiness here has taught me that peace isn’t found outside of us. Peace is internal. We carry it, we emulate it, we offer it. Those who recognize that can find contentment anywhere.”

Many thanks to 47North and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read Wings of Fury by Emily R. King in exchange for an honest review.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After devouring the previous book, I was so freaking excited to dive into Crown of Cinder. I'm just going to say it now.. this was so freaking easy to devour as well. It also made me hate certain characters quite easily because they were constantly acting like an ass or making dumb decisions. So it's also safe to say that the little betrayal was pretty easy to spot before it actually happened.

I also really enjoyed getting to read another book with my main guy Hades in it. Also Poseidon was kind of cool. I just feel like every time we meet a new sibling I'm just seriously suspicious of them. Also their wonderful mom basically tells everyone but the important people that they are a god and stuff? Like how does that make sense? It just kept annoying me and I get why certain people were annoyed as well.

Other than that, I'm not sure what's going to happen next. I hope she doesn't give into Zeus because I like that Althea has been strong and independent against him. I also don't really like the guy and I would rather have her be very far away from him. Just saying.

I'm not prepared for another book but I definitely need one. Especially after how this one ended.

A brilliant, feminist take on Greek mythology.

Wings of Fury simmers with passion and the rage of all the women throughout history and mythology whose stories have been misrepresented, underappreciated, and erased. In this pulse-pounding, action-packed novel, author Emily R. King is sending a message loud and clear that women's stories matter, and that we will no longer stand for being silenced or relegated to supporting roles.

As Publisher's Weekly said in their starred review of the first book in the series, "This is a winner."

I have a lot of feelings about this book. There are many battle scenes where I raced through because I needed to know what the outcome would be, deaths that broke my heart, and an ending that left me sobbing. Clearly I was invested in the story and characters, King is a great writer who knows how to draw readers in.

I don't know that much about Greek mythology, but I loved seeing familiar names as we met new characters. I also liked seeing the Titan siblings explore their abilities and mature into the famous Gods I've heard about. There's also a great romance between Hera and Theo that I adored and couldn't get enough of.

I'm not sure if there will be third book, but I'm really hoping so. The ending pretty much devastated me and if I have to live with things as they are, my heart might never recover.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. Thank you to 47North and NetGalley for the copy.

Where are my Greek mythology readers. This series is for you. I have read a few Greek mythology themed books and there were either hit or miss. Yet, this book is a hit. I like the young, updated versions of the various gods and goddess.

If you have not read the first book, you could read this book without much issues but I can guarantee you that you will want to go back and pick up book one.

Althea is the heroine that everyone wants. She is a leader that is not afraid when the odds are stacked against her. Feminine empowerment! Although, it does not hurt to have family by her side. Each character had their own personality and brought something to the story. Crown of Cinders is worthy of the gods!

*Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an early copy of this book for review, all opinions are my own*

I admit I'm a little sad because I didn't like this book as much as I liked the first one.
I think the reason could be that in the first book because we were being introduced to the story and the characters everything felt more exciting and I fell in love with the story and the characters easier.
In this book I felt that the characters became very one dimensional, the author gave 2 characteristics to each character and made those characteristics their only trait, so they got very annoying.
Zeus is completely insufferable in this book, which for sure made me like the story less.
And the fact that Hera is so powerful also made me a little suspicious and made the book less believable for me, so to speak.
I also don't know if I liked the end of the story even though it was expected.
I think this second book is the last one of this doulogy and I hope it is, because I don't know if I could take another book knowing where the story will go and end.

This was so good! I'm glad I buddy read it because it allowed me to savor the story. I enjoyed the relationship between each sibling and what each brought to the story as a whole. This was filled with adventure from beginning to end and included many tense moments.

We're so used to stories about the children of Gods like Zeus but not many stories tell of their story and how they became Gods. I liked learning more about Cronos and his siblings. I think it made for an interesting and unique read.

I am bummed this is only a duology because I would love more books set in this world but overall I definitely recommend it and enjoyed it.

"Like most powerful men, he was vain"

This book was retelling of greek mythology focused on Hera's POV and her siblings. I'm a huge fan of retellings so I couldn't miss this one and I really liked it.

Emily R. King is an author I have a ton of love for and never disappoints. I really liked WINGS OF FURY and I LOVED CROWN OF CINDERS! COC took the characters and story I loved in WOF to a whole new level of epicness. I really enjoyed watching Althea come to terms with her true parentage and in her quest to reunite her siblings to defeat their father, Cronus, once and for all. I loved that this duology really gave a voice back to the goddess Hera and the roles that women played in epic tales that were silenced by men. Althea was a fierce heroine and I really couldn't help but just cheer her on. I wasn't super keen on the romance between Althea and Theo in book 1 but I fully was on board for them in book 2. There is also steam and I loved that this duology had a more distinct new adult feel than the author's previous novels (which I also loved). There's lots of epic battles and heartbreaking losses in this explosive finale, and lots of plot twists even until the last page that took me by surprise. Emily R. King proves time and again that she is an immaculate storyteller and the Wings of Fury duology is no different. Y'all should run, not walk, to read her books!

*Thoughts*

Crown of Cinders, by author Emily R. King, is the second book in the Wings of Fury series. It has been 6 months since Althea (Hera) learned that she, and her sisters Bronte (Demeter), and Cleora (Hestia) are daughters of Cronus and Rhea. Now, Cronus is whipping up the old guard in order to suppress the new Gods and Goddesses while focusing on Hera who worked with Zeus to send Cronus packing and into hiding. With a bit of help from Selene and others, Hera searches for her other brothers (Poseidon and Hades) hoping they will stand with her, Zeus, and her sisters against Cronus.

Initial Thoughts
I literally could not stop thinking about this series after I finished Wings of Fury in April. I was SO excited to see that it was a Read Now title in NetGalley this month. I literally pushed aside all of my other current reads to dive in.

Some Things I Liked
More greek mythology. The first book was filled with nods to myths I knew and I loved that but we didn't really dive in as deeply as I'd have liked until the end of the story when Althea realizes her true parentage. I loved that in this sequel, we really got to see the inner workings of the hierarchy of the gods as well as more nods to the classic stories.
The romance. Theo was just perfect. I literally cried so much when Althea finally was able to admit her feelings. On the flip side, I also really liked that Zeus and his "relationships" wasn't sugar coated. He was a total weasel and Emily R. King didn't shy away from making that known.
Hades. Please, please, please, can I get a spin off all about Hades? This version of Hades is quite literally my favorite version of him ever. He was broody and a bit shy but he wasn't evil at all. Hades is often characterized as being selfish or evil and I was so glad to see that wasn't the case here. I loved Hades.

Series Value
I'd read a billion more books in this series or set in this world. I adored every page. I can also proudly say I have now read all of Emily R. King's books and this was my favorite one yet.

Final Thoughts
I loved this book. I cried a ton at the ending, so you were warned.

Greek mythology, but make it feminist.

I loved this duology! The relationship between Althea and Theo was amazing. And I loved getting to see Poseidon and Hades in this installment.

Emily R. King writes her books beautifully, and this was no exception. I love her prose and the way she weaves her words together to tell such action packed and intense stories.

If you like stories inspired by Greek mythology, do not miss Wings of Fury & Crown of Cinders.

Content: some language and sexual scenes.

A continuation of the Wings of Fury series, retelling the downfall of the Titans.

I do not have much knowledge of greek mythology however, after reading book 1 I was excited to continue with this story.

6 months after the first book, Althea and her 2 sisters are finding their place in this new world as the children of Cronus and Rhea. Alongside their youngest brother Zeus, they are trying to locate their remaining 2 siblings Poseidon and Hades. They are getting used to their Titan names of Hera, Demeter and Hestia and the powers that they possess.

Hera is the main character who is a leader of people, always trying to do the right thing and faced with the difficult task of entering the underworld to retrieve Hades. All siblings must be united for them to overthrow Cronus. Hera continues to be supported by Theo a demigod and their relationship continues to develop throughout the story with Theo never faltering in his love or support for her.

The prophecy outlines that Zeus will replace Cronus however, he is a bit of a self righteous brat and Hera tries to keep him on the right path. The hard work is all done by Hera and this is a story lifting up the strengths of females.

Due to my limited Greek mythology knowledge, I found it confusing at times with all the different Titan names and what they were rulers of. This did not detract from my enjoyment of the story.

Thanks to #NetGalley and 47North and to Emily R. King for this title #CrownofCinders in exchange for my honest review. This title releases on 5 October and I would recommend that the series is read in order.

I'm not a huge fan of Greek mythology and usually avoids retellings of them but somehow, I managed to dive into Wings of Fury (book 1)... As usual, I wasn't paying much attention to the description and just started reading. In the end, I decided that I really like Althea and I wanted to find out what happens next.

Crown of Cinders opens some time after the end of Wings of Fury, where 2 siblings are yet to be found but Cronus has begun to make his move to destroy these siblings yet again. A very fast read culminating in a climactic battle for world rule where a heartbreaking moment made me sobbed but yet, the ending made me unsure whether this is it or if there is another book coming. I feel that the story is mostly finished but I'm also annoyed at a certain character at this point so I'm not actually sure if I'd like another one or not.

On the other hand, I feel that this book is about a particular goddess for which I am not at all familiar with her 'background' as such so this was a lovely fill for me. She is a strong heroine who have had to fight for her freedom, her independence, her situation in life. I believe this is what author wanted to get across and she definitely had done that very well.

"Your value is not in how others treat you but in how you treat yourself. We must believe in ourselves first or there is nothing anyone can say, Titan or moral, that we will believe."

My thanks to 47North for ecopy of book via NetGalley in exchange of my honest thoughts

Crown of Cinders picks up where Wings of Fury left off. I try not to have any spoilers in my reviews, but this is a warning that there may be some details that slip through. I only recommend picking up Crown of Cinders if you’ve read the previous book in the series. This wouldn’t work well as a standalone.

Crown of Cinders introduces more of the Greek mythological characters that we’re familiar with. While Zeus played a role in the previous book, we’re finally introduced to Poseidon and Hades in this one, and I particularly loved the play between the Gods of Olympus as they band together and fight against their father and his allies.

I loved the pacing of this book, and how easy a read it was. The addition of new characters made the story richer, and I really enjoyed seeing them all interact and watching as the relationships and bonds between the characters shifted and changed over the course of the book. The one star off the rating in this one is due to the annoyance I had with some characters throughout the book. Not naming any specific names, but I wanted to like one or two of them as much as I liked the rest of the characters.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Net Galley for this advanced copy! I was so excited to read this! I loved this different retelling. The Young Gods and Goddesses must overthrow their father Chronos for the sake of humanity. Hera ( Althea) turns out to be quite the hero of the story! I couldn’t put this down! Like the first book, I loved all the mythology and the fast pace of the storyline. I also loved the characters and their sibling banter back and forth! This was so much fun! I hope there is a next book in this series as I’d like to see how the Zeus/ Hera relationship progresses as well as the other Gods and Goddesses!

*I received an e-arc from Netgalley and the author in exchange for an honest review*

This review may contain spoilers for the first book, Wings of Fury.

After reading Wings of Fury, I was so ready for this sequel! I wound up enjoying it even more than the first book. If you’ve read and enjoyed the first book, you’re going to love this one!

Althea still can’t quite come to grips with the fact that she’s Hera, daughter of Cronus, the abominable Titan king. After Althea failed in casting Cronus down into the deepest pit of Tartarus, he calls upon his powerful allies to come against her. In order to force Althea to surrender, the elder Titans strike the mortal world with earthquakes, famine, pestilence, hurricanes, etc. Althea and her siblings have been hiding, but alas they can’t hide forever, and they begin recruiting the younger Titans to their cause. They hope to win them to their side, before the mortals who are suffering turn them over to Cronus to gain peace.

Poseidon and Hades have also been in hiding, and Althea goes on a quest to find her brothers. Tracking them down, and getting them to take her side might prove to be impossible. She finds she has much to learn about her crown and her Titaness powers. She is determined to do all that she can to protect her mortal home and friends, and unite her brothers and sisters in the war to end all wars.

A series perfect for fans of mythology, fierce female characters, action and adventure. I am hoping for another book in the series after that ending! I loved these characters so much and would love more in this world.

Digital ARC provided by Netgalley

I enjoyed even more this second book in the series. It gave more depth to each character and it added some good twists to the entire plot. I like how the story continued and the fact that the author highlights the power the women have - they are fierce leaders, and they cover any weak point a strategy might have when a battle arises.
I appreciated how the story was realigned with the classically known mythology and for sure some surprises are still ahead in the next volume. For sure this is among the best Greek mythology retellings I have read in a while.

I really enjoyed this one, even more than the first. I loved seeing the two new brothers get introduced and fit in with their family. Gutted that Zeus became insufferable as he was my favourite character in the first book. It’s action packed and fast paced, with a clear message that women’s stories matter and we don’t have to fall into supporting roles. A fab duology, I do recommend reading them in order and not just one or the other as there’s a lot of names to remember.

I absolutely love this telling of the fall of the Titans. It is so amazing. Emily is an amazing storyteller and I hope Hera's story continues!

I'm sorry. I just couldn't get into this book at all. I have nothing against Greek mythology but there was so much name dropping I lost interest in the lackluster plot. I got a quarter through it when I decided to stop. Unless it materializes near the end, the title just does not fit the story line. So this is a DNF for me. Crown of Cinder
by Emily R. King

I was granted an ARC of #CrownofCinders through #Netgalley

This is book two in the Wings of Fury series, based on Greek Mythology and just like the first book, the plot was ABCD... There were really no side plots or anything extra to suggest other books, either as continuations or spin-offs. And there wasn't a cliffhanger, so the series could be left as is, or open for another.

The writing was good, but during the first part of the book, some of the descriptions went on and on about the same thing, and many uncommon words were used, which made it pretty obvious that the writer was using a thesaurus, and was looking to 'dress' up the writing.
For me, it was an irritation. Made me wonder how much confidence the author has in her talent because, towards the end, the descriptions were shorter, which didn't make it a 'chore' to read. But maybe it's just me, not liking pointless drivel. I'm a 'more to the point' type of person.

Because it was such an ABCD... type of read, and all of the extra words, it wasn't that enjoyable.

It was only ok.

'Crown of Cinders': 5 ⭐

(Unpaid Review: thank you @netgalley, @emilyrking and 47north for allowing me to read this book in exchange for a honest review).

I've always been fond of greek mythology, especially when it's written in such a way that can leave your brain in a very big tangled mess of ideas. 'Crown of Cinders' is one of those books that messes with your head and your heart in the best way possible.
The writing was impeccable and so fluid, I managed to read this book in one sitting. I particularly adored Hera's character and how the author brought her womanhood to life. There's a particular scene in the book where Hera fights and she says it's for all women a God abused. She wants all women to be free and to make their own choices. I didn't like her sisters, felt like they were under every other person's orders but was absolutely in love with Hades. What an amazing take in his history!
Zeus is a no-no for me. I'll never be able to look at him the same way again. He was a selfish brat, who only wanted to be and do whatever he pleased.
This book was a fantastic read, I can't recommend it more and I'm so grateful for having read it!

I'm so so glad this was a NetGalley "read now" selection because after I finished Wings of Fury I was able to step right into this one!
And it was fantastic! We pop right into action that picks up 6 months after the end of Wings of Fury. And the action never stops. I still loved the 3 sisters and their interactions together, and then I really loved them finding Hades and Poseidon and bringing them into the fold. Watching Hera come into both her name and her abilities was so great, and Theo was right up there next to her and seeing that support from him was everything. The author did a great job both telling an "unknown" history, and setting us up for the parts of mythology we already know. I cried at the end, not going to lie, that really broke my heart.
I will 100% read more in this series if there is another book. I think there's so much more to tell. And once again, we are reminded that men have written our histories and colored our perception of the women in them. It really hits home when Zeus tells Hera she will be remembered as a shrew.
But, loved this book, highly recommend!

Althea or to use her correct name Hera is still coming to terms with all the revelations about her true parentage and her place amongst the Titans. Her fury at Cronus after all he has done knows no bounds but hiding away won't serve anyone . Hera must travel forth with her sisters to locate her missing brothers because only together will they be powerful enough to stop the megalomaniac God who will destroy all in order to rule untouched forever !
I have been in awe of this authors imagination for some time and commend her on yet again giving us a female protagonist who is truly heroic. This takes the mythology we all know and stands it on its head with such a unique slant on how and why these amazing characters of legends supposedly acted as they did. Expect betrayals and battles, expect anger and sorrow, but also see the possibilities of a new order in a world needing change.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This book starts up where the last book left off and doesn't let up on the action. Everything comes at you pretty quickly, which barely leaves the reader any time to breathe. Then again, the last book I read proceeded at a snail's pace, so your mileage may vary. There certainly wasn't any problem with lack of action.

Despite that, or perhaps because of it, I felt like the book moved *too* fast. I feel like there should have been more times for the reader to catch their proverbial breath and develop the characters a bit more. That would be my sole complaint about this otherwise well written novel. (It was pretty short, but I'm also used to reading much longer books).
