I liked that this is a rebirth story that doesn’t focus completely on revenge. The age gap still feels a bit uncomfortable to me. And overall, while it was a nice way to pass the time, it’s not really a memorable story.
The drama is currently filming though and it stars Ren Min and Ci Sha, and they definitely feel like they’ll suit the characters. I just hope the drama doesn’t continue to make the ML the father of the FL’s past crush.

I'd say this was a 3.5 book ... and then the side stories ... man. *shakes head* friends. No. DO NOT READ THEM. DO NOT. OMFG.
Maaaybe read the last one - Ye Xian's. But otherwise, AVOID. ... If you like horror *maybe* give side story 3 "After Her Death" a try? And holy WTF yo 🙊
I do like we get a good bit of time between FL and [ML] in this book. Do not love as much - at least for me - I felt for a long time it wasn't really that clear WHO the ML was. Like ... you kept thinking/feeling X guy had a chance throughout. >.> Until certain moments and then something would undermine it and ... I just wish there was a bit more certainty. We always got SO CLOSE and ... *sigh*
Or I guess I just wanted more sweetness. Yes EVEN MORE.
Regardless, other than the mess at the end like I get they want buildup and drama and a big exciting "climax" but I was pretty over it by then. Honestly >.> other than FL my favorite character was Chen Xuan Yue ... lol and that's basically cuz he was team FL from go. And CLEARLY so.
I ... might? reread this book? But ... maybe cuz I literally just finished it today, my thoughts are a bit more jumbled/I'm not sure? I'll probably be thinking about parts for quite some time.

A good rebirth story, but the focus is more on living well, protecting her family, rather than revenge.
I like how the story flowed. The characters are all pretty 3 dimensional. The father who neglects the wife for the concubine is foolish, not very smart, but he does care and he loves his daughter. It's a nice change from the evil father or the perfect father.
My one critique is the story ends very abruptly. It's a HE, but as soon as the danger is over, the story finishes. There aren't any side stories on the main characters. Instead the side story focuses on a step daughter that I totally forgets about the moment she is off screen.
