From USA Today Bestselling Author, P.D. Workman! Something drew him back
When Ben Burton hired Zachary Goldman to help him to find the house he lived in before he was adopted, Zachary had no idea it would turn into a murder case.

***** Once again P.D. Workman delivers a powerhouse of a novel! Zachary’s new client wants to find his childhood home. Once they start digging, they find more than expected. This work is brilliantly crafted, with a tight plot and very well developed characters. I wish she could write as fast as I can read! I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.

He Never Forgot is the 9th book in the Zachary Goldman Mysteries Series but it is written in such a way that it can be read as a standalone. I have read other books in the series, so I am acquainted with the characters, but I could have easily read this book and enjoyed it without having had read the other books first. Having said that, I did enjoy the first books and would definitely recommend that you read those as well. Zachary Goldman is a Private Investigator with quite a history of his own. He has a trail of abuse and mental issues that have followed him from childhood into adulthood. Somehow, he has managed to survive and turn his life around, becoming an accomplished photographer and starting a business as a Private Investigator. But his demons can come out at the worst of times and the challenges he faces can be his undoing. In He Never Forgot, Zachary is approached by Ben Burton, who has a curious request. He was adopted at a young age and he doesn’t remember anything about his birth parents, but he wants Zachary to help him find his childhood home. He can’t really explain why, he just feels compelled to see it again. Without much of anything to go on; no last name of his birth parents, no records, nothing to speak of, Zachary takes the case. But working with Ben isn’t easy. He has his own demons, and they come out every day in the form of drinking binges that render Ben mean, senseless, and hard to deal with. Then one day, something seems familiar and suddenly Ben begins to recognize things. Could this be where he lived as a child? And could there be a reason he had forgotten so much from his childhood?
This book was well written and dealt with some serious childhood abuse issues in a very straightforward way. The author does a good job of taking on many serious topics and building her plots around them, allowing her readers to see what’s behind the curtain so to speak. She does this with a delicate but honest manner, being truthful about what it’s like to live in the midst of such social issues as child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, and many others. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a book of a more serious subject matter.

I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. Zachary Goldman has become one of my favorite fictional characters. He is so flawed and troubled and loyal and hardworking and, and...I want to be Zach when I grow up! He could so easily use his PTSD and ADHD as excuses to crawl into his shell and never come out, but that's not who he is. He continues to strive for the things he wants for his life and for his clients (and for Kinsey) regardless of how difficult he finds it and how many times he thinks he fails. He gives me hope. This was a rather intense story in that Zachary's client is not the most likable person in the world. Granted, he has a rather traumatic history that he can't completely remember which is the source of a great deal of his need to drink and his less than personable attitude. But once again Zachary feels the need to stick with the case and help someone in trouble, even when he's not sure there's any way he can find out what his client needs. This isn't a "pretty" story, but it is an intense and relevant story. I only had one tiny issue. I would have liked to have seen more detail revealed at the ending of the book. If you've read it, you probably know what I'm talking about, but if you haven't I don't want to give away anything. The story is resolved and the reader isn't left hanging. by any means. I would have just liked to have seen some confrontation between the "good guys" and the "bad guys". I can't wait to get the next book!
It was hard to put this book down. I mean not every minute was a heart pounding moment. I had many heartfelt moments for most all the characters. Some made me feel like if possible to reach into the book and give them a hug. It made me feel like saying to some of them really, you are really doing this right now. I learned somethings I didn't know. It is nice to see things real life in books. If authors have to do research that makes their book even more valuable to me. Many emotions involved. I am looking forward to reading the next books and go back a d read the previous ones as well.
When I started this book I was ready to quit after a few chapters feeling the book was too dark for meat this state of my life.. I read to learn and to escape. But the more I read, the more I couldn't read fast enough. Today I was even reading in a restaurant while waiting for my lunch. A great deal of the book is about 2 men from different walks of life who share a background of being abused as very young children. Do they resolve the conflict in their lives. Read it and See. I highly recommend reading it just for learning the suffering of adults who were abused by parents. Maybe even have enough sympathy to help someone. Excellent character development.
I enjoyed reading this book. The only thing that bothered me was the insertion of a few characters from previous books that didn't add anything to this story. Several scenes were really unnecessary. The final scene with Zachary's sister seemed forced. Their relationship needed more background where the characters Luke and Rhys were not important to this story at all. I know this book is one of many in a series but I think these types of books can and should stand alone. It would rank one more star from me if it did.

This work is brilliantly crafted, with a tight plot and very well developed characters. I wish she could write as fast as I can read! I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
There is so much emotion in this book! A man comes to Zachary with a strange request. “Help me find the house I lived in here.” This takes them both on an incredible journey of finding, confronting and letting go of abuse by parents who should have loved them and been their defenders. This book is also a mystery that involves solving a murder. I believe that if you read one of Workman’s mysteries you will be hooked to read them all.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This story was on the darker side I thought, the dread of the unexpected of what they would find, The questions to stir the memories in.Burton, also was hard for Zach. Zach even with his background and this case now causing nightmares, he kept looking for answer for his client, Different plot and glad that Kenzie is staying by him, to encourage and help him.
Very interesting story of a man searching for the past he can't remember but can't let go. Adopted at age 5 he has never known anything about the first five years of his life and hires a private investigator to help him locate the home where he lived during those five missing years.
Wow, that was an interesting tale, trying to mine the mind of a child of 5 many years later. I haven't read books 1-8, so was not familiar with Zachary, so in this book he was a puzzle of adult and child mixed together. But all in all, a good read.
At first it was hard to read...too much unknown info. But as story unfolded things became clear. The effects of child abuse have a wide range of consequences. It leaves u wanting to help survivors if only to listen.
Zachary had a troubled childhood to say the least. Now he has a client who also had one. This is not a feel good story. While at times difficult to even get through, it is very well written and definitely worth the read.
Page turning journey through the mysteries of broken childhoods and broken souls. As part of a series, the book stands on its own . The travesty suffered by far too many children is laid bare. Emotionally raw at times.
Another great installment with the beloved Zachery Goldman. This is a very intense storyline surrounding an extreme childhood abuse case. I enjoy the growth in Goldman with those around him, it is a great reminder that it is never too late our own weaknesses and to grow beyond them.
Zachary helps a man that can't remember his past, find his first home before he was adopted. They learn how the man had been abused by his real parents. A very emotional book!
As usual, a very well written and interesting story, easy to read and with fantastic characters. It deals with the usual psychological issues, but also a very dark side of human behavior.
Wow, what a great book. Zachary was the perfect person to take on this case. I love his interactions with his client and also his friends. I can't wait to read about what he does next.
An amazing mystery as always. Ben hires Zachary to help but doesn’t expect a murder as well. It’s easy to get lost into the story and want more at the end.
Another great read although disturbing and sad. Zach uncovers a horrible murder and helps a Client get closure. Eager for more stories featuring Zachary and friends.
I always look forward to a new Zachary Goldman mystery. Zachary is a private investigator with more than his fair share of personal baggage, but he never lets that deter him from solving the problems of others. When a man comes to him looking for help with finding his childhood home about which he remembers very little, Zachary goes all out to help. He understands the need to reconnect with the past and that it can be so much more difficult for kids who have been brought up in the foster system and/or adopted. As they pursue each lead, Burton (Zachary’s client) begins to remember disjointed pieces of his early years. To say that is where the plot thickens would be an injustice to the story. Burton’s time with his biological parents is the stuff of nightmares. Zachary remains steadfast in tracking down every lead, scouring public records, talking to any potential witness, and providing emotional support to his client as Burton’s world steadily and inexorably unravels. This is a taught psychological suspense story that will demand your attention and not let go until you finish the last page. It does pack quite a wallop in terms of emotional impact and, as with any story containing some form of child abuse/neglect, it could be potentially triggering for some. That said, I felt these issues were handled quite well and that nothing was sensationalized or exploited. Additionally, I love how the author makes sure to include follow up details on the lives of recurring characters and how attention is always given to the personal growth of Zachary as he struggles with his many challenges. He is an interesting, complicated, flawed character with a strong moral compass and an unyielding determination to become his best self, despite his past traumas. As always, I shall eagerly anticipate the next adventure in this compelling and original series.
I was provided with an advance copy of this book but I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased opinion for your consideration.
HE NEVER FORGOT is the ninth book in the Zachary Goldman Mysteries series but only the second one I've read. There was a new case for him to solve but we were also reminded of some of his earlier cases and of his own issues growing up and even today. His girlfriend, Kenzie, is a stabilizing force in his life and helps to ground him. I like her personality and how they interact together. His friendship with Rhys took a few unexpected turns.
Zachary's new client, Ben, left a lot to be desired given his alcoholic tendencies but deep down he seemed to have a good heart as his repressed memories of his horrific childhood start to slowly resurface. I liked how Zachary and Ben's childhood social worker were respectful and let him draw his own conclusions. There was lot of attention to details which I always appreciate when reading a mystery. There were a lot of twists and turns with a few surprises thrown in but the story ended a little abruptly for me although there was a feeling of peace. The title is very telling once you get into the story and I liked the cover. I enjoyed the excerpt in the back of the book of the next book in the series.
Ms. Workman is an author whose books I've been enjoying in several different series. I like her writing style and look forward to reading more of her books and reading some of the books I've missed in several series I've started as well as continuing them as new books are added.
