Connor Jacobs daydreams of stage lights, sold-out concerts, and Dare McKenzie—her brother’s best friend and the bassist of The Forgotten Flounders. Music and chemistry collide when Dare and Connor quietly start working on a collaboration. He knows that she has what it takes to make it in the music industry, and he’s willing to help make all her dreams come true.
Her family is already struggling with the fallout of an earth-shattering secret. She knows another will destroy her father, who already feels that music has cost their family too much.
Time is running out for Connor, and she must make her choice before she loses everything she’s dreamed of.
J.C. Hannigan lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband, their two sons, and their dogs. She writes contemporary romance, through which she brings to light awareness of mental health and social challenges.
Like any good Canadian, she loves hiking and carbs.
This was a really good and emotional rockstar/brothers best friend romance. Though this is marketed as a standalone, i definitely recommend reading the first book in the series before starting this one.
So here we have Connor, who has been in love with her brothers best friend forever. She knows nothing can come of it, and doubts he even feels the same way. She also dreams of music and doing what actually fulfills her, but she doesn't want to disappoint her father (who not gonna lie, is awful most of the time.) As these two collaborate together, they become even closer, and Connor realizes that Dare loves her just as much as she loves him, but they have no choice but to keep it a secret. But will they still be able to keep their hearts intact once their secret is revealed?
I loved this book so much! Dare is absolutely the perfect boyfriend and I loved how much he loved Connor. So swoon worthy!!
My only complaint was at times this was too repetitive and wordy, which would take me out of the story at times. Other than that though, this is an amazing romance!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
I really enjoyed getting to know Dare and Connor they had a great chemistry and were made for each other.
Dare is Connor's brothers best friend but that hasn't stopped her crushing on him, what she doesn't realise is that Dare feels exactly the same. After a party thrown in Connor's honor ends in disaster she finds solace in Dare's company and as she reveals her dreams he vows to help her make them come true no matter what it costs them both.
A great addition to the Forgotten Flounders series from J.C Hannigan and I cannot wait to read more.
I liked Conner and Dare's story. Dare fell in love with his best friend's little sister. Conner had been in love with Dare since she was sixteen years old. Their relationship needed to remain a secret for most of the book. I liked the characters in the book. Curveball were thrown their way throughout. My only criticism was the wordiness.
This was my first read by Canadian author J.C. Hannigan. Let me tell you she has gained a new fan in me. I quickly fell in love with her writing style and will be reading more by her. Give me all the books!
After rockstar Calum Jacobs throws his little sister a celebrity-filled 21st birthday party, things lead to Dare McKenzie having a long time fantasy full filled in real life. Now he is determined to help Conner Jacobs dreams come true as well. Even if it means keeping secrets from the people closest to him.
Conner Jacobs has a lot on her plate with college, family, starting her upcoming career, and her secret desire to be with her brother's best friend- bassist of the Forgotten Flounders. Her life is planned out to please her father, but Conner has other aspirations. Trusting Dare, she shares her ambitions and accepts his offer to help her with putting things in motion to begin the process of making hopeful dreams come true.
They both go through hoops to keep their collaboration and growing feelings a secret. Will Conner be able to follow through with her plans or will letting her already fragile family down be too much to risk?
Off Limit is full of secrets, revelations, and tributes to the older generations and music while giving us a look into past and present life in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I went into book two blind and followed the story pretty well. Although, I would recommend reading book one, Calum and Harper's story, before this to get the most knowledge and understanding.
4.75 stars only because a little repetitive in places. Otherwise a terrific read.
This is the 2nd book in this incredible series, and this is Connor and Dare’s story. Connor has had a crush on Dare since she reached her teens, and she is determined to follow her dreams and get into the music industry. When Connor’s brother throws a celebrity filled birthday party for her, the attraction between her and her brother’s best friend Dare is undeniable. Dare is the bassist in Forgotten Flounders, and he wants to help Connor achieve her dreams, so they collaborate in secret, hoping that her already fragile family will not find out about it. This is a well written story which has combustible chemistry, family, friendships, secrets, emotions, revelations, and love, which leads to a riveting and addictive page turner. I received a free copy of this book via Give Me Books and the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely LOVED this rockstar/brother's best friend romance! JC Hannigan did an excellent job of telling Dare and Connor's (and yes, Connor is a female) story, and it's so well-written, it captured my attention from the very first page.
Although it seemed to end slightly abruptly, I honestly loved the story, which ran parallel with Calum and Harper's story in Off Beat, so that was a nice surprise, and I can't wait to read more (hopefully Evan's!) stories in this series, but in the meantime, this one is highly recommended!
This is my first book by this author and it was really good! I was able to read this one without reading the first but I plan to go back and read it anyway. Connor has been crushing on her brother's bf Dare, but what she doesn't know is he's crushing on her too. She talks with Dare about her dreams and he promises to make them come true no matter the cost. This was a page turner for me and I couldn't wait to see how it all played out for Connor and Dare. - Jacqueline
Off Limit by J.C. Hannigan is book Two in the Forgotten Flounders Series. This is the story of Connor Jacobs and Dare McKenzie. Connor has been secretly in love with Dare since she was a teenager. Now he is a Rock Star in the Forgotten Flounders band. They start to work together and their attraction takes over but will Connor not follow in the footsteps her family has for her?
I’ve been waiting semi patiently for this book for what feels like years. It didn’t disappoint. I’ve always loved JC’s writing style & her ability to make complicated family dynamics appear so vividly in the mind’s eye. Without giving anything away, this book is well worth a read - but make sure you read Calum & Harper’s story first!
I’m really glad J.C. backtracked so that the timeline with Off Limit lined up with Off Beat. I had a lot of questions about what was going on originally and they were all answered while reading! I loved getting a deeper look into more characters and seeing them from a different angle. There are a lot of hidden emotions and secrets going on with everyone involved in this series which makes it all the more interesting for me. Dare and Connor are wonderful and I always love a MMC that worships their woman– he support is massive and was really sweet.
This was a really good, emotional read and a great follow-up to “Off Beat” – the first book in The Forgotten Flounders series. While this can be read as a standalone, it is best if you read the first book before reading this.
The chemistry between Connor and Dare is undeniable from the start. Connor has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend but knows that nothing can come of it and doubts Dare feels the same way. Dare wants to help Connor achieve her dreams, so they collaborate in secret. They go through hoops to keep their collaboration – and feelings a secret. But secrets always have a way of coming out. 🔥
This story has a little bit of everything: secrets, chemistry, family, friendships, a wide range of emotions, and a whole lot of love. It is extremely well-written, and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. ❤️
I liked how it began earlier so you could see what was happening with the band. I wanted to see what Calum was doing. It showed a guy having a hard time with his decisions and it was catching up with him. I really felt sorry for Calum in this story. His whole world was falling apart. I can't wait for the next book to hopefully see this family finally come together and Evan finds that specific one. It was a great way to see his friends and their point of view. So I hope its not too long we get answers cause I can't wait to read the rest of the story. Conner is wise beyond her years.
Having read Off Beat i wanted to see how the other's stories would play out! I picked up this second book and got back into the Forgotten Flounders world. I enjoyed it!
Connor and Dare's journey grabbed my attention from the get go! These two have been in each other's lives for some time. Moments can change everything, something Connor knows. As Dare offers to help her, can they take a chance on their hearts and everything else, together? I couldn't wait to see how it'd all go for them!
I really liked getting to dig deeper with both Connor and Dare! I didn't know exactly how these two would navigate things. The chemistry between them was undeniable. I felt many things with both Connor and Dare throughout!
I liked being back in the Forgotten Flounders world as well!
With Off Limit, Ms.Hannigan has created such a good read with feels!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Give Me Books Promotions / the author*

Connor has a different dream than her dad has for her, and music is that dream. She's also had a secret thing for Dare, the bassist for her brother's band, and Dare is absolutely perfect for her. Of course that's a complication as well so when they start to collaborate on music, it's kept on the down low, and then developing into something more is also a big secret. Obviously they think that it's going to be a problem for her brother and the band so I was on the edge of my seat sweating it out for them because you already know, secrets have a way of coming out at some point & bro code is real. I was turning the pages quickly because of that big secret, and then I was sad for Connor to have to keep everything a secret because of the possible fallout. To see how it will all play out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Off Limit is the perfect follow-up to Off Beat! I mean, Connor and Dare together #swoon
Dare is such a good, decent man. He's by far one of the sweetest and sexiest rockstars around, not to mention he's so perfect for Connor Jacobs. He's observant, and protective over her feelings and privacy, even when it comes to lying to his best friend, his bandmates, and Connor's older brother Calum.
Connor Jacobs is dealing with so much and yet she handles it in stride. It's not easy being the good daughter, who follows her parent's rules and guidelines to keep the peace but it's slowly eating away at her.
