Lance By Chance: Wrestling As A Von Erich

Rate this book
This book not only covers the story of Lance Von Erich, but it goes in detail of what was happening at the World Class promotion in Dallas, Texas at the time. Find out why Fritz Von Erich created the character. Many think that he was brought into the sport because of Mike's illness with Toxic Shock Syndrome, and that Lance's career was over after Fritz and Kerry exposed his identity on television... Not true! Enjoy this candid look at the rise and fall of the World Class and the man who carried the company's banner when the real Von Erichs could not. This book also contains chapters about Steve Simpson, Billy Jack Haynes, Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez, Ric Flair, Kerry & Mike Von Erich, and so much more!

This is one of those books that I file under "Good Read" and it isn't because I'm a huge wrestling fan. Rther, I am a casual fan with working knowledge of the sport and I did grow up during the time period when Lance Von Erich was introduced. The book is written by Lance and author Vinny Berry and it covers a wild spectrum of life in the 1980's wrestling circuit. It's extremely entertaining- funny, sad, and outrageous at times. Like many other readers I had a hard time putting the book down. You get a good sense of what it was like as Lance changes his career path and decides to become a professional wrestler! Filled with great anecdotes and larger than life personalities the story of Lance is captured and shared with fans.

“Lance By Chance” tells the story of Lance Von Erich (real name Kevin Vaughan), the storyline cousin of the famous Von Erich family. Lance tells you how he got into professional wrestling, the creation of the “Lance Von Erich” character, his time in World Class Championship Wrestling, why he left, and his life after WCCW.

This is a very good book and an enjoyable read. Lance has led an interesting life, both in and out of the ring. It was great to hear his side of the story about why he left WCCW. Recommended read!

Excellent book about a forgotten time in World Class Championship Wrestling. The Lance Von Erich story. Lance was going strong then disappeared with Fritz breaking kayfabe in a strange turn. This is true story of Lance Vaughn, now told for the first time. I was impressed by his wrestling knowledge and enjoyed to hear his side of story. A must read for any wrestling fan!!

Consider this is coming from a non wrestling fan.

Berry introduces us to Vaughn, an all too human individual who's promise exceeded his talents yet was matched by his drive. Thrust into positions he didn't ask for but was willing to go along for the ride, Vaughn is a character in which most of us will see a piece of ourselves in, or maybe even wish we were.

A rollercoaster ride for a life is told, and in some parts, a further insight is desired into certain events or occurrences. It keeps your attention and it's easy to follow. It has you ask questions and at times makes you want more.

Easy to read. A great story to follow. It comes off as a movie with sometimes surreal situations or characters.

But hey, this is coming from the wrestling realm. Quite fitting.

If you were a fan of wrestling in World Class Championship Wrestling, this book is for you! Lance opens up about his wrestling career from start to finish. Mr. Vincent Berry takes the time to dive into Lance’s career with great stories from Portland to Texas to overseas with this easy to read page turner. I read this book in one day, because I just could not put it down.

Terrible. The writing is middle-school level at best. It’s a shame because Lance Vaughan has an interesting story to tell but he chose the wrong ghostwriter to tell it. I normally don’t give bad reviews but I feel obligated to ensure no one else pays money for this book.

This is a very interesting story of how Lance Vaughan became an honorary Von Erich and the fallout of doing so.
