All Scarlett Winters wanted was to get to Charlotte, become a nurse practitioner, and live a normal life.  Fate had different plans for her it would seem, as an unfortunate event leaves her stranded and  hunted in shifter territory.  For most people this would have been bad, for Scarlett it’s even worse.

Scarlett’s presence in these woods shakes up what every shifter has taken to be the new reality. Something recently thought to be gone forever has returned, and everyone wants a piece of it.

Rowen Kavenaugh, Alpha of the Kavanaugh pack, and Jasper Wyatt, his beta, are the first to offer safety to Scarlett, at the expense of the safety of their own pack. Someone with wicked designs is targeting Scarlett. Rowen and Jasper need Scarlett as much as she needs them.

Will they be able to overcome the enemies who are targeting their very existence?

Rowen, Jasper, and Scarlett.

Scarlett is a nurse practitioner traveling to her new job in Charlotte, NC. While going through the Great Smokey Mountains, she is run off the road and chased into the woods by aggressive alphas. While running, she stumbles into pack alpha, Rowen, and his beta and best friend, Jasper. In distress, Scarlett shifts into a wolf and then shifts back to her human form. She had no idea she was a wolf shifter. She had been raised as a human in a human sector. She's also an omega. Omegas were believed to be extinct for 50 years. They immediately ask to protect her on their pack's land. She is a little reluctant, but agrees.
Once at their camp, they tell her she will continue to be chased and attacked by alphas until she becomes bonded to an alpha. Rowen offers to bond to her. She wants time to process everything she has just learned. In the meantime, the three have sex. Rowen has been Jasper's "secret" dom for years as a way to let out tension. Scarlett is so turned on by this. She watches them together. After agreeing to bond with Rowen AND Jasper, she becomes a sub to both of them, while Jasper remains Rowen's sub. Progressively worse attacks occur to the camp.
One of Jasper and Rowen's childhood friends, Mason, is a bitter scrawny alpha who feels like no one will acknowledge all of the medicinal knowledge and research he has been doing for the past year. After being denied a discussion with Rowen, Mason gets all pissy and plots against his own pack. He tells the aggressive alphas how to attack his pack's camp. The alphas attack, and Mason attacks and kidnaps Scarlett so he can do medical research on her. Jasper and Rowen find her and rescue her. The book ends here.

Too many typos. I feel like I'm missing some info on character development. Don't understand why Ben's POV was given, since he didn't play much of a part in the storyline. POVs would change without any direct notification. I had to reread several times to realize POV had changed. I really liked this book, and then things just fell off for me. I won't be continuing the series.

While the book wasn't bad, it wasn't perfect either. I don't mean things like misspellings or grammar errors. I tend to ignore them, because for me, authors are not machines. Every human is bound to make mistakes. And even with proofreaders, there is no guarantee that the book is flawless in the end. Again, same reason. They are humans.

But back to topic: The book actually has a good storyline, that kept me interested. And there were really good written sexy, steamy scenes (BDSM etc.). And the world and the A/B/O dynamics were interesting too. Though, I missed that there were no knotting, nesting or any other stuff, that I'm used to with Omegas.

But my main issue was more, that the story was dragged out. I have read the story eagerly in the beginning. But during reading it abated more and more. And in the end I was exhausted. Though, the steamy scenes were really good, it was too much. It's my perception, but it was for me one sexual scene after another. For example, I have just read one chapter with their sexy time, I thought it was over, but the scene wasn't over and just continue in another chapter with a different POV. I appreciate the POVs and have read many books with a lot of sexy times. But it's the mixture that makes the difference.

The story was mostly in the background, therefore. Yes, I can argue, that it's possibly because it is the first book and the relationship is in the forefront. I get it. But the mix wasn't right for me. I don't know.

So, now I'm thinking about, if I really want to read the next book directly. That rarely happens to me. I'm normally an avid reader and I finish series. I don't just DNF, if I can help it. Even though, it was tiring for me at the end, I want to know how the story ends. And what things I don't know yet.

So, maybe I will still finish the series. But the other books are the same length as this one, and I fear it will be dragged out again. Therefore, I'm not sure if I will find the motivation directly. Maybe I will take a break. We'll see.

Steamy and Thrilling

Protected follows the story of Scarlett, who coming from the human sector of the world, finds herself in wolf shifter territory. Unknown to her, she is an Omega, a rare species of shifter that were previously thought gone. Rowen and Jasper find her in the midst of several shifters trying to get their hands on her. After saving her, they bring her back to their pack with the intention of keeping her there. The undeniable pull brings out their dominance for her and things get steamy quickly. But other alphas are still after her, and they have to find a way to protect her before it's too late.

This book is VERY steamy, and has a unique take on wolf shifter romances. There are multiple BDSM scenes that truly underscore what it means to be in a Dominant/submissive relationship and does show how BDSM is supposed to be. We not only get to see Scarlett with Rowen and Jasper, but Rowen and Jasper together, and the different facets of the trios relationship.

This is definitely worth the read, and even more so if you love kinky scenes and paranormal romance.

*Although this book ends with a happy for now ending, it is a part of a trilogy.
* Swords do cross in this story.

The author, Elle Sparrow has done a great job of telling a story about three shifters (a woman and two men) who are dealing with threats to the pack while navigating their newly developing relationship. The characters are well developed, compelling and very likable. Detailed descriptions of the smells, sights and noises made for great world building and help immerse you fully into the story.
Aspects of power exchange, BDSM, impact play and bondage play a large part of the triad relationship. I really loved the way the author wrote about the female character’s introduction to BDSM and submission. She covered many important issues that a good dominant should, especially when the situation is new to the other person, or when playing with someone new. Kudos to the author for not skipping over the need for open communication, safe words, and clearly defined limits.
I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

Story: 3 stars
Steam level: 4 stars

Pros:
New(ish) world view on standard shifter story
Mysterious group of baddie
Kink
Jasper

Cons:
Kink (personal preference on very specific scenes that others will likely love so don’t let my con make you not read this!)
Lack of communication from Rowen despite requiring it

This was a fun take on shifters. Their world is divided into sectors; human and shifter. After having an accident in a shifter sector, Scarlett is being hunted down by Alphas and rescued by Rowen and Jasper who have the task of telling her she’s actually a shifter and an omega at that. With other shifters still after her, she agrees to let them protect her and finds herself with feelings for both men. The relationship between Scarlett and Jasper and Jasper and Rowen was lovely. You could really feel the love between those 2 sets. I didn’t really get that between Scarlett and Rowen until the last possible page, Rowen, to me, felt like he was holding back from Scarlett and was there for scenes with her but jot much else.

Scarlett Winters was trying to reach Charlotte, where she had plans to become a nurse practitioner. She didn’t realize that she was a rare Omega, maybe the last of her kind, and she ends up stranded in shifter territory. The danger to her is very high since shifter males will do anything to get hold of an Omega!

Rowen Kavenaugh, Alpha of the Kavanaugh pack, and Jasper Wyatt, his beta, see that she is surrounded and they rescue her and take her to their pack. They feel a strong pull toward her already. Other alphas also want her and they need a plan for keeping her safe. She could very well lose her life in the scramble to get to her.

At this point, BDSM became part of the story, something I won’t deal with, and I stopped reading. For me at least, it adds absolutely nothing of value to ANY story, turns my stomach, and ends my reading enjoyment. I am not a prude, but this for me is OTT and ruins what might have been a good story. I would appreciate authors who include this brutality to warn the reader. You trigger everything else, but why is BDSM ignored?

Scarlett gets chased by wolves and saved by Rowen and Jasper.
Scarlett was on her way to a new job and had to pass through the shifter area but a tire blew and she crashed. She got out of the car but is chased by a group of wolves who seemed to be playing with her. She stopped behind a tree and could hear them getting closer then she suddenly feels fur appearing on her skin as she changes. Then two more wolves appear and attack those who had chased her leaving one dead and the other fleeing. As they approach her they they change into Rowen and Jasper two very sexy men and offer to take her to safety. She is shocked to change into a wolf having been brought up as human and they are even more shocked to find a long thought extinct Omega. An exciting. steamy and action packed shifter romance.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a little different take on shifters and humans than what I am used to. Scarlett is a shifter and does not know it. She is really a rarity in that she is an omega. She gets caught in a bad situation and ends up with Rowen and Jasper coming to her aid. These three form a trio of mates. There is plenty of heat to go around. Protection for Scarlett is important when there is danger coming for her. There is more of their story coming but this book ended fairly well

I didn’t hate this. It’s not the best book I’ve read this year, by a long way, but it’s not the worst either.

My main issue I suppose is that there’s the potential for some plot initially.

Then, there’s just smut.
Is the smut good?
Yes. Yes it is.

But that’s sort of all there is.

And then there’s plot in the last bit of the book.

It was disjointed I guess? Laden with smut, BDSM, but the plot was severely lacking. There’s some torture thrown in for shock factor.
But it didn’t really make sense and it came out of left field.

I wasn’t blown away, in a nutshell.

It had no knotting, and that’s just a crime in an A/O story…

This book exceeded my expectations! I loved their relationship and how Jas wasn't embarrassed to show his submissive side, how Scarlett submitted to both Ro and Jas but didn’t become a single-minded submissive. The story flew smoothly, and the events took the required time to transition. I loved how Scarlett was the one to encourage the communication and wasn't afraid to speak her mind and demand what she wants and needs. Scarlett is truly what I think omegas are.
So good. Highly recommended reading this story!

What an amazing start to this series. The storyline pulls you in from the beginning and holds you there all the way through. The characters are engaging, likeable and have amazing chemistry. The story is full of suspense, action, shifters , fated mates. You will not put it down till you are finished. I can't wait to see where the story and series goes next. A must read.

ONE INTENSE READ!!! Whoa! Fast and furious is definitely the way to go. Yep, talk about falling hard. I do not even know where to begin. I thought the last book was fantastic. Again, this is an unexpected delight in itself. I know, I cannot make up my mind. So, choose them all. You cannot go wrong here, trust me on that. This is a page-turner, smooth flowing wild ride with all the thrills and explosions you can handle.

Intense Love Story

As the first full shifter romance novel I think I’ve ever read, I was drawn into the intense relationships between these amazing characters. The story starts off strong and doesn’t let up til the very end and definitely leaves you wanting more of this steamy romance!

Great Start

Good story. Lots of plot streams flowing to open up to a great three Part series. I'm looking forward to number two. Good amount of spicey. Would recommend if you love wolf shifters and bdsm play. I believe this story can really deepen and thrive. So I'm looking forward to the second one.

good read

It was a pretty good read. I think the bdsm part of their lives leaked too far into their public lives for me. Almost as if it was their whole personality and everything reverted back to it. Other than that I’d call it a good book worth the read for sure. A good amount of spice (m/m/f)

I had great hopes for this book but I stopped at about 50 percent through the book. I kept rereading the same sentences because the writing didn’t hold my attention. The world building was not great and the writing just wasn’t very descriptive or interesting.

Whoa whoa whoa .... the spice had its own storyline and discovering this world was described in a way that you can see yourself in Scarlett's shoes. I absolutely love the Triad relationship that existed and transpired between the characters. Onto book 2 in the series to see what happens next. 🔥🔥🔥

I love hot, steamy, PNR poly romances, but this story was not very interesting. Couldn't get invested in the characters at all. It was basically a BDSM book that was struggling to make a story.

This first instalment of the trilogy was beautifully done. I was hooked into this book from the very beginning. Sparrow writes this shifter poly romance with great detail. The spice level is perfect. The dynamic between Scarlett, Rowan and Jasper I enjoyed, some parts left me blushing. Outside of the triad, Ben is my favourite character and I can’t wait to see where his story goes. Sparrow writes a world of acceptance in a way that I hope our world could be. There were parts where I got lost in what happened, it could just be how I read. I look forward to seeing where Sparrow takes the next 2 books.

Book 3 is out next week (6/15/21) and I realized I never put up my review of Book 1!

Rowen and Jasper are set in their relationship and have been for awhile and the possibility of finding a mate for the Alpha (Rowen) has not really been a priority, until now. Scarlett literally runs into their lives, lost in the woods, barely evading a pack of ravenous shifters. A newly changed Omega, she's a delicious treat to any Alpha within smelling distance. Rowen can smell her alright, but he's more angry she's in danger than he is tempted to have a taste. From then on, Rowen has two people in his life...Jasper AND Scarlett. Only, that's not how the clan works. Triads are only folklore. Then there's the other issue...Rowen has a dark side, he has needs that he's not sure Scarlett will be able to meet. How is this going to work...?

This book was so good. It was everything I would expect from the genre. Amazing characters, world building, conflict/drama, sex scenes (excellent sex scenes), and plot outside of sex! From the start, the dynamic between the three main characters is appealing and intriguing. Scarlett is appreciative of the rescue, but is no damsel in distress, either. This is just the tip of the iceberg as to what goes on in this book, because they have issues outside of pack issues to deal with....and did I mention that Scarlett was raised Human and had no idea she was even a wolf, let alone Omega???

This is book 1 of a trilogy, so it does end with a storyline unresolved. HFN.

If my description above wasn't clear enough, the swords cross, and there are shifters/werewolves in this book. LOL. This is an MMF paranormal romance. If you're not into threesomes and "scenes", this is not the book for you. It's spicy....but it's soooo good!
