Sylvia's had more than her fair share of hardship. Abandoned by her husband, sold into slavery by her father, and now ruled by a harsh master, she's never felt free.
But everything changes when she discovers an injured stranger in the woods. Despite his initial hostility and the language barrier between them, Sylvia decides to help him at any cost. She's determined to save him from a cruel fate...and he's become her new secret. But she never realized that he'd be a prince - or that he would kidnap her as his bride!
As Sylvia takes on this unexpected adventure, she faces a difficult question: Can love be her freedom, or is it just a new prison?
There's a lot of kidnapping in this book. There's enough kidnapping to almost feel like a fetish. Initially I had a lot of mixed feelings because it toes the line of consent. It is worth noting that over the course of the book I can't help but feel strongly that our kidnapping Prince is actually quite loving and decent. There's a lot of culture shock there has to be overcome. You also have to understand that you are signing up for a book that's over 800 pages and has over 200 chapters. It almost feels like three books, maybe four books put together as an omnibus. The pacing almost compliments that idea, but not quite. There's definitely arcs that with a teeny bit of editing you could split the giant book into a trilogy. Considering the content I think the book would have actually benefited from being split up. The main characters start to shift around in the middle and the story seems to lose focus as a full length.
I did not dislike the story, I do think I will read part two after a long break. I am curious where it will end up but I feel exhausted after taking a week to read this. It's got a lot of very heavy topics that are very much a part of the story from beginning to end. It discusses many forms of abuse both mental and physical and these are things that define the two main characters. So much so that as a reader you feel like you can't escape it either.
Trigger warnings: the story does include domestic violence, slavery, miscarriages, questionable consent, illegitimacy... If any of these things upset you you're going to have a very hard time reading the story. These topics don't really go away.
Sorry this review isn't more in detail, I leave reading this book feeling completely exhausted. It was a hard read, not because of its length but because of the heavy topics that are woven too deeply into the characters. I felt like an uphill battle to get to the end only to be put in a spot where it feels like the story is only just beginning. The main character is never seen to get ahead.
Wonderful fantasy story that follows several characters but mainly focuses on Sylvia and Keil and their budding romance. I did not find the other character stories to be too numerous and felt they added nicely to the storyline.
I would caution that the story contains some sensitive topics addressed such as threats of non-consentual acts (although, spoiler, the hero will save the day). The topics of miscarriage, loss, and spousal abuse are also present. Each handled well and clearly represented in a way to depict the character rising above the tortured past but I feel it's important for some readers to be informed about those before choosing to read this story.
I greatly enjoyed the tale and the many adventures it brought. Cannot wait to start the second book!
I haven't read all of the light novel or comic on Tapas to compare, but I loved this version of the story. There's multiple points of view; eventually additional "main" characters are added and included in the POVs; and side "Tales" to give perspective/background on the cultures. If you aren't really into following along multiple trains of thoughts then you might not enjoy. If you're ready for a *long*story that's dialog/character interaction heavy this one will be great. I really enjoy the voice actors for the audiobook too. Just a heads up though that the text includes a translation for anything not English, the audiobook does not.
The world in the story is interesting and the characters evolve slowly as the story develops. I found it a little too long and with too much detail and explanation of things. I personally don’t like when ALL characters are “matched” with a partner, some are implied and needed for the story arc, but other characters could have their own story and be happy as they are (without partner and kids), that is not necessarily an aspiration everybody should have. The book also has details that are obvious or unnecessary (that could be the translation) Would not recommend if you are looking for female empowered characters
This could use a bit more editing but the story is well worth the read despite the errors! It’s a story that allows me to laugh a little, makes my heart pound during many scenes, and even evokes tears of sadness as well as happiness! Beautiful! Since I know how easily I can get sucked in to the story, I’ll have to wait to start the next book until tomorrow even though I bought it when I bought this one.
I just realized how long this was when I started reading and didn’t realize how much based on the web novel on Tapas. Nevertheless, I loved this story. It was full of romance, adventure, dragons, action, and a semi cliffhanger that will make you want to pick this up in the next long volume! Keil and Sylvia became near and dear to my heart, I just wish a happy ending for all of them in the end.
The Dragon Prince's Bride is a well-written story that skillfully weaves fantasy with the reality of relationships, especially the ups and downs in marriage.
I loved this paranormal romance. The story is much longer than anything that I usually read but found it very entertaining. It is the story of Sylvia & Keil to start and how she decides to save him after finding him wounded in the forest. The speak different languages so have to figure that out amongst other things. The second book continues with Kaal his brother who is King holding them basically captive at the wish of the Evil Queen. How will they survive and remind Kaal who he really is?
Interesting Fantasy with good world building, but it started to drag towards the end. I'm not sure I care enough to read the second book... 30 plus hours to listen to this mammoth book!
It was longer than I expected! The story is interesting and lovely, however the writing sometimes has some errors here and there, but nothing we can't understand, I'm not English native and still found it odd. it's not as good as "Under the Oak Tree" novel, which I read before this, but I still really enjoyed it!
