I was really disappointed by this book. When I saw it on Amazon, I was really excited— I've been looking for books about Slavic deities and paganism, and this seemed to fit the bill. However, there's such a lot of false info in this book, even for one about wicca. (Sorry, I've found a lot of books about wicca/witchcraft to be barely researched and pretty fanciful.)

For starters, the author talks about "hell icons" as if there were a real thing. A quick Google search shows us that no, in fact, they are not real. In Chapter 4, instead of explaining more about the duel faith of a lot of Slavs, the author decides to do a random comparison to widely different religions and faiths: Vikings, Hindus and Satanism are all tossed into the mix. Why she does this, I have no idea, because her comparisons don't add anything to the book, and don't seem to be that accurate. I would love to have read more about the idea of duel faith. It is touched on in the first few chapters, but I honestly don't know how much of this book is just straight up fiction. At least she doesn't talk about the Book of Veles as a valid source.

This book doesn't have any useful info about Slavic deities, or any actual sources, in any language. I don't recommend trying any of the cemetery spells in the second half of the book. They will either not work at all, or summon some bizarre creature straight out of Master & Margarita.

This is complete fiction. Most of it barely makes sense. The myths are made up, the comparison of satanism, paganism, and Christianity came from the movies, and none of this is ancient belief.

Interesting and entertaining, but without sources or citations it's hard to tell whether any of it is actually true. There are a few red flags such as the mention of "traditional black mass of ceremonial magic", when in fact the black mass was never celebrated by ceremonial magicians and was an invention of the Catholic Church to discredit pagans. For all I know, the rest of the information is equally fictional. The author vacilates between sensational claims that Russian mages worship evil (unlikely and largely unprecedented in other traditions of witchcraft) to justifying them as misunderstood non-conformists. It just doesn't have the ring of truth to those of us with a background in actual occult practices, unless the Russian version is very, very different and coincidentally resembles a Hollywood stereotype.

Bujda na resorach jakich mało. Przypisy, po których oczekuje się odniesienia do jakiejś naukowej literatury, do czegokolwiek co potwierdziłoby rzetelność autorki. Zero bibliografii, więc nie wiadomo ile treści w tym jest zmyślone, ale osobiście uważam, że bardzo dużo, bo czyta się to, jak książkę fantastyczną. Lekka, ale nie wiem czy przyjemna. Te wszystkie zaklęcia, które niekiedy zakrawają o absurd - zabijanie czarnych kogutów, dziurawienie zdjęć i zawiązywanie "penisa" na nich, tak żeby przywiązać seksualnie do siebie partnera, rytuały na cmentarzu. Ehhh... Okładka ładna, treść - żałosna.

This book is completely inauthentic!
Let me start by saying I'm of mixed heritage and on my mothers side I have some Russian and Ukrainian ancestors. Some of my Russian and Ukrainian ancestors actually practiced magick and some of my family still does. I also speak Russian quite well. So I know a thing or two about Russian magickal practices and culture. This book is full of incorrect, twisted information and made up bullshit. The Author also mixed her bullshit with some (not much) real stuff from other cultures and practices, probably to fill in the pages and to make it more believable. It's also quite telling that this book doesn't have a bibliography, I guess it's because she probably never picked up a book in Russian to get some real knowledge and understanding.

Abstrahując od kwestii wiary lub niewiary to ta książka jest po prostu merytorycznie zła. Autorka nie podaje żadnych źródeł swoich rewelacji, nawet tych które podaje jako historyczną prawdę, a biorąc pod uwagę, że to co autorka opisuje, zakrawa bardziej na kiepskie fantasy niż cokolwiek co można by brać na poważnie to, choć pięknie wydana, pozycja bezwartościowa pod każdym innym względem.

Rosyjska czarna magia okazała się bardzo mroczną książką, którą trudno oceniać pod względem literackim. Jest to swego rodzaju poradnik, dla osób zainteresowanych okultyzmem i tematem jako takim w ogóle, choć z drugiej strony mam nieodparte wrażenie, że prawdziwi pasjonaci tajemnych obrzędów i wiedzy tajemnej nie szukaliby ich instrukcji w książce dostępnej w księgarniach, a raczej zdobyliby taką wiedzę od kogoś już doświadczonego w temacie czarów, jeśli ktoś w ogóle wierzy w takie rzeczy. Dla mnie, który lubi tą tematykę, ta książka jest ok. Przyznam, że bardziej podobała mi się jej pierwsza część, wyjaśniająca wierzenia pogańskie mieszkańców Rusi i Słowian, historia stworzenia świata czy piekielna hierarchia, którą autorka tu wyjaśnia. Druga część opisująca kilkanaście zaklęć czy to jak zawrzeć pakt z diabłem była zdecydowanie słabsza, choć dalej interesująca. Ciekawe czy ktoś po lekturze tej książki pokusi się o jakiś obrzęd czy rzucenie klątwy na kogoś. Autorka zaznacza, że powinny to robić tylko osoby mające już doświadczenie w czarnomagictwie i że jeśli coś pójdzie nie tak to przed tym przestrzegała. Ta książka będzie ciekawostką na mojej półce, dziełem opisującym pewien folklor niż gotowymi instrukcjami jak zjednać sobie czyjąś miłość czy odgryźć się wrogowi. Pozycja z tych, które traktuje się z przymrużeniem oka bardziej niż na poważnie. Niemniej nie żałuje, że ją przeczytałem, coś wniosła do tematu moich zainteresowań, choć są na rynku pozycje bardziej traktujące zagadnienie magii, nawet jak w tym przypadku czarnej, uwzględniające też dostosowanie praktyk i wiedzy do współczesnych realiów i czasów. Polecam, szczególnie dla pasjonatów takich zagadnień!!!

To jest kiepska książka... Miała spory potencjał, niestety zmarnowano go na dywagacje i dygresje. Rys historyczny i obyczajowy jest tu mocno skąpy, a na to głównie liczyłam - żadnej bibliografii, żadnych źródeł, samo "wydajemisię" autorki. Może ma ona wiedzę, może nie - trudno ocenić w takiej postaci. Niepotrzebnie wplątuje tu polemikę z założeniami satanismu laveyańskiego, nijak nie pomaga to książce, która przecież ma o czym innym mówić.
Raczej dla niegrzecznych dzieci do postraszenia złym czarownikiem, który sprzedał duszę diabłu.

I was very curious about the genesis and legends of Slavic wizards, but the topic was very poorly described. The author focuses on incantations and rituals which may be interesting but it feels that they are fake. There is no bibliography. I know that the spells are taken from the previous generations, but the author could mention that. When you read the book you feel like it's all created by the author.

It’s an engaging read but hard to take seriously when the author doesn’t provide sources. I’m not asking for meticulously formatted citations, but it’d be very helpful to know whether the beliefs and practices described come from an ancient manuscript, a secondary source, oral tradition, or what.

Aesthetically and intellectually the book equivalent of a generic 2000s black metal album. Pretty badass sounding spells and history, but impractical (hearts of various animals are a common component of spells) and historically spurious. Kind of enjoyed it in a strange way though

So many things seem very inaccurate, but it's hard to review pieces of the magical sort considering it's clear that the author was raised heavily around certain beliefs. Wasn't really my jam, but it had a few bits of information in it that I found interesting.
