After Xiao Yu died, the system said it would give her a second chance at life.
Xiao Yu smiled brightly and accepted the offer. After she transmigrated, she just wanted to point her middle finger at the system.
It didn’t mention that the original host was nearly paralyzed.
It didn’t mention that the original host was a mother.
It didn’t even mention anything about the original host’s child being not only a villain……but the female villain and the male villain being both her children.
Lying on the hospital bed, as she looked at the little boy in front of her, Xiao Yu’s face was plastered with confusion.
It's not bad. Boring towards the middle with little progress but things finally moved a bit more later, but it's not a heavy book. The sad thing is, I was extra interested at the very very end, but again, it then ended. Sadness! At least it gave me a good impression at that point. Also, I'm not at all well-versed in piano pieces but I know La Campanella and was happy to see it featured a few times.
Xiao Yu lost her parents at a young age. Her relatives descended on her like a pack of wolves to get her inheritance. Father Ji, her father's friend, couldn't do much except letting his son married her when she turned 18. Both fell in love at the first sight.
During her pregnancy, Xiao Yu descended into depression. Her obsession towards piano led her to a disastrous path even though she had not much talent in it. She succumbed herself into gambling. Her wished to terminate her pregnancy led her husband to hate her. And by the time their daughter turned two, they got a divorce.
Xiao Yu lost all the money she had into gambling and started to teach piano. Most of the income goes into hiring a piano tutor for herself, which led to her neglecting her son, born without even her husband knowledge after the divorce.
When her son turned three, Xiao Yu was paralyzed in an accident. She fell deeper into depression and finally succumbed to it. This was when the transmigrator with the same name as her entered her body. The former Xiao Yu only had one wish, to be a piano master.
The new Xiao Yu however had the two kids in mind. She knew that they both would grow up to be a pair of villains with bad ending. Even though she lacked motherly love as she was single in her previous life, she still wanted to change the course of their future.
Do take note that the story was so simple that it couldn't be more simple. It was more telling than showing. Almost everything was glossed over. The writer decided to placate it by going the humorous route.
The former Xiao Yu was annoying and hateful and I do think she deserved her fate. Even in her death, her only wish was to master the piano. She did have motherly love but, it was nothing compare to her love of piano. And she had her late mother to blame for that. Xiao Yu's mother was also obsessed with piano and like Xiao Yu, she also had no talent in it. So, I'm glad that when the new Xiao Yu took over, she took piano as only a job need to be done in exchange for taking over the body.
One thing I like about this book was the portray of the kids. Ji Yu was raised by her father turning into a spoiled bratty princess. Even though she was smart for a six years old, she tend to throw tantrum and cried a lot. Xiao Rouguang was raised by Xiao Yu to be more mature. It was sad to see a three years old being sensible, humble and responsible when he should be the one throwing tantrum. Lol. But, the contrast was what made them more endearing. And Xiao Rouguang was a good influance to Ji Yu.
1. Plot: woman transmigrates into paralyzed mom of two future villains and basically bullies the ex husband of her kids into taking care of her, more or less.
2. This is a fair amount of fun. It's very tongue in cheek in places and the plot moppets are very cute. The protagonist is hilariously practical in her actions, and the love interest is adorably flustered and just a very nice (if grumpy) guy in general it's cute.
3. The antagonist, whole not incompetent, is also neither particularly threatening nor charismatic. After a few chapters featuring her I started wishing wed love in to someone more interesting opposing the character.
4. There are, unfortunately, little to no real emotional stakes in this story so after a point the lack of both plot and pathos ends up making everything feel a bit bland. Still, it was pretty fun while I was actually reading it.
- I found the series on several sites and most of the translations were awkward & terrible. Until you get to the descriptions for music and then it was fairly poetic even with the shoddy translation. I should learn to read Chinese. 🙃 After I relearn Korean.
Loved: - The characters & family were great! - Themes: Family, Love of Self/Others, Respect, When to Fight or Ignore, Joy with or without Money, Hard Work vs Talent vs Skill, to Show with Words & Action, Good worked hard to triumph over bad, etc - Smart writing with lots of intelligent snark.
**Rating based completely on how much fun I had with the characters. 4 stars even with bad translations.
It's only been a few days since I finished reading this novel, and I already forgot that I read this book. It's not that memorable after you finish reading it. Overall, the book was pretty entertaining because Xiao Yu's arguments were funny, but that's about it.
