Hunting through her other books to see if there was a continuation on this lovely short deliciously dark regency romance, I see the author is mostly interested in writing about medieval knights with muscled chests on the front covers, and sadly this book is actually a departure from her norm. I’m not sure if I’d really call it gothic since it didn’t have anything actually ghostly or chilling in it. I did love the atmospheric setting in both the prologue and the main body of the story. The prologue was fun with a tourist woman named Lee who visits Blackmoor manor in modern time as a tourist attraction to see a famous painting. She gets into a conversation about it with a man who introduces himself as Asher Russe. Then the story jumps back into regency where tragedy befalls the young lord Asher. And then it jumps several years later to follow Emma as she travels the moor to find a maid position at Blackmoor manor where Lord Asher has fallen into severe depression, all the servants have left, and the mansion has been left to rot. It’s up to Emma to breathe life back into him, and find that they aren’t alone in their tragedies. I loved the friendship that blossomed in their conversation and would have loved seeing where their story might go to. The largest problem with this story is that it feels more like just the sample to a larger book. It felt like we had just passed the introductions and were about to really start the story when I hit the list of other books the author had written and the author bio. So, I came here to see if that might have actually been the case since I had just read it in The Midnight Hour: All Hallows Brides anthology. But other reviews say the same thing. I did like the touch that the de Russe family in this story are descendants of the family in her medieval knights books. There is also a mention of the Fang manor which presumably is the family home of the clan from her Scottish werewolf warrior series. Another thing that bugged me that I was hoping would eventually get touched upon was how did the modern set prologue fit with the regency set body of the story? I was expecting for the tourist woman to be a reincarnation and for the Ash who met her to be the same one from the Regency part though cursed to live until he could set things right with her. But apparently my imagination is a bit too fanciful for this non-fantasy story since they never came back into it.
"Where there is light, there is hope." So true in the tale of loss and light in the gothic setting of Blackmoor Castle.
Sometimes an old painting can hold a wonderful story that would never be known unless it is passed down from generation to generation. Such is the story of Emma. A beautiful woman, who was the wife of the owner of Blackmoor Hall when the picture was painted in 1815. In modern times, a young lady touring the home comes in to contact with the current owner.
Thus the story begins that may be repeated with their meeting. There is always hope, even in the face of tragedy and heartache. You never know what fate will have in store. As always Kathryn has written a story that won my heart.
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful: 😍😍😍😍 Eu amei.. I love this book... I need more of this story... 😍😍 Please... 🤣🤣 Uma super leitura... A super reading... 🤩 Happy reading,, and until the next reading... 😘😘🎀🎀
This book is about two damaged persons. One wants to die, the other is just moving through life.
Emma is on her way to a job when her coach breaks down. She gets directions to her destination and starts her walk. What she finds is an estate with a large estate. She knocks on the door but no one answers. There is a storm brewing so Emma checks and finds the home unlocked. Her plan is to just get some sleep and move on the next morning. As she wonders through the house she finds a man in bed. He's feverish and Emma wants to help him. When he awakes he tells her to let him go. He wants to die. But the two of them strike a cord with each other and find hope in their lives.
I absolutely loved this story At first glance you think it’s got the wrong title , but delve a little deeper and you have something I would describe as more the beginnings of a poignant love story and only slightly gothic in atmosphere, but don’t let detract you from what is a beautifully crafted story, one that I would love for Kathryn to extend to a full length novel, I actually felt sad when it finished and wanted to know so much more about Ashe and Emma As always Kathryn takes you to the heart of her characters being.... and immerses you in their lives as only she can.... Wish I could have given it more stars..
What happened to Ash Russe and Lee Williams? Did Ash and Emma relationship evole into a HEA? This was a rushed incomplete short story. With a beginning but no end. Reader's are left hanging without answers to their speculations. I'm very disappointed with this Kathryn LeVeque novel. I have been following her for many years. And I know she can write better than this.
This is a short gothic read. It is supposed to be set in the recency period. Other then the mention of.the.mode.of transport which was a carriage and the heroine,'s gentle are .clues. Outfit the true gothic games there is a dark mansion on the moors, stormy weather, a major tragedy for both hero and heroine as a hint.of a somewhat more.do you.need. A great little read
Cute story read in various versions throughout Kathryn Le Veque's writing career. Beautiful woman injured looking for help in the wilderness finds a sick man in need of help. Still fun to read but not worth the cost for such a short incomplete version.
The story wasn't finished. I wanted to know more about Ash and Emma. Was there another book to end their story? was very disappointed. Don't know what happened to Ash in the Museum? I had to go and reread the book to see if I missed something. The book needed to finish the story. Can't believe that Kathryn left out important info.
A raging storm brings two damaged people, who have been alone with their physical and emotional pain, together and leaves your mind springing with hope eternal!
To be disfigured from an accident caused by wreck less causing death to him. For her to live with the fact of her parents death and her being scared from the accident to finding a place to work and heal.
This is a very short prequel to the Lore Chronicles. It’s a very quick read, less than 85 pages I believe, but enjoyable none the less. Now I need to read book 1 of the Lore Chronicles to see how they fit together.
What a beautifully written story. For two people to find each other among tragedies that happened to them similar, and come together afterwards to enjoy the company of each other. A beautifully tragic story ending with love. Thanks for sharing your story!!!
I think the story could have left off the first part, just my personal opinion it wasn't really needed for the storyline. The historical story was very good!
