My great aunt’s dying wish was to re-open her family’s legacy, the Sugar Creek bakery, and come hell or high water, I’m going to make it happen in her stead. Transferring from L.A., I can deal with the biting cold, an overdose of Valentine’s Day spirit, an apparent saboteur, and even the small town gossip surrounding my (in)famous mother.
They say preparation is everything, but there’s one thing waiting for me in Maine that I never could have prepared myself for. Because even in a town filled with men that look like they were carved from marble, Sheriff Connor Richards is serious temptation. Unless I can figure out how to control myself, tongues are going to wag. And not in a good way.
♥ Connor ♥
Six months as Sheriff of sleepy little Sugar Creek must have lulled me into a fall sense of security. Back in my Army days, five and a half feet of spunky brunette would never have caught me off guard like this. But I’m falling hard and fast for the little bakery owner.
She might kick shoes at me and think this thing between us will throw gasoline on the gossip fire, but whatever it takes, I’m going to show Willow Myers that she belongs with me. Right after I destroy whoever is terrorizing her and trying to tank her grand opening.
I write the kinds of books I love to read. Low angst and good communication make me happy. I love a little drama, a metric shit-ton of sexual tension, a good meet-cute, and dirty talk. So, so much dirty talk. Hot with a plot is my personal motto and I take it seriously!
I have a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Baking and Pastry. Before staying home to raise my kids, I was a pastry chef for seven years and specialized in wedding cakes. (See, always a sucker for a happy ending!)
In real life, I’m a wife, and a mother to two adorable hellions. We have two puppies, a chonky cat, and more houseplants than I know what to do with.
"Call me crazy, but the second I looked into her eyes I could see it; a lifetime of mornings in her bed, coffee and pancakes, summers at the beach, and winters curled in front of the fire." Should I have saved this novella to lighten up my Valentine's Day? Probably. Could I resist reading it now? Not really. I've been making my way through Mae's novellas and they're the perfect read for lazy Sunday mornings.
"The sheriff is an absolute mountain of tall, dark, and handsome, and I just slid down his body like a fire pole." The sheriff... I may be in love, definitely in lust, and I think I've said this before: can I please move to Sugar Creek? Because there's hotties everywhere and I'm very single. Connor is the dirty talker of your dreams, wrapped up in a uniform, with a side of growly and possessive. Jeez. Gimme! What I loved the most about Willow is she's her own woman. She knows what she wants, and she's not shy at all about it. She goes for it. She's a strong, sassy heroine who sets things in motion all on her own.
"I can say with almost one hundred percent certainty, he can have anything he wants. I’d give anything for more of him." Willow comes back to Sugar Creek to reopen the local bakery. Connor goes to check on her, and their meet cute is original, to say the least. And there's instalust and a lot of chemistry between them. After the bakery is vandalized, Connor's there for her... in every way. The small town vibe is cute, and I loved the secondary characters.
"Mine," he teases with a wink. "Cave dweller," I shoot back. "When it comes to you, always." This novella is sweet, and comes packing a steamy punch. It's the perfect read if you're looking for something short, but with characters you can fall in love with. And the bonus epilogue? Nope. Not even going to go there. Just read it, you won't be sorry you did.

Decent short read. Small town novella about a sheriff and bakery owner. Kinda cute, though the heroine gave me whiplash with how quickly she changed her mind from not wanting to get involved with him to being all in, but I guess there’s not much to work with if you only have 87 pages. Also the set up with the two aunts was a little far fetched and entirely too convenient, but I’m a grumpy skeptic, others would probably find it sweet. If you need something fast, spicy and sweet, give this a read.
Sugar Pie is such a spicy and light-hearted read! Willow moves back to her hometown to take over her aunt's bakery after her passing and runs into the town sheriff, Connor. Sparks fly and while they're busy burning up the sheets, Connor is also trying to figure out who vandalized the bakery. Full of sweet and silly moments, it was the perfect read in between longer books.
If you're looking for a short read with a nice amount of suspense, story and steam, this is your book!
Ha, this book was cute and made me laugh a little bit. The story is set in a small town in Maine called Sugar Creek where apparently there are a lot of sexy, muscled men. Connor, the sheriff, is the guy featured in this story but our FMC, Willow, runs into a sexy doctor too.
We’re one sexy firefighter away from a Magic Mike show.
Hmm.. maybe there will be a story about them too? 🤔 I’d read them!!
So Willow moved back to her hometown to run her great aunt Judith’s bakery after she passed away. She has some issues since arriving and the sexy sheriff Connor helps her out. They start getting flirty with each other and it leads to more, and it’s all so yummy.
Writing style was great and it hooked me in so I’d definitely check out this author’s other books as well. I’d give this around a 3.75⭐️ and worth the quick read. Now onto the other books in this Sweet Hearts series!!!
I kept seeing this book after it was released, and after reading one amazing review, I knew I had to get this one in time for Valentine's Day this year. I'm so glad I did!
When Willow and Connor meet, it's like love at first -- legs... The two are immediately drawn to one another. After an awful bit of vandalism takes place at the bakery she is reopening, Connor steps in as Sheriff. He's determined to keep Willow from being targeted again. He's also set on getting Willow to give into the connection they have.
This little read was as sweet as pie! With a dash of small-town vibes, a scoop of heat, heapings of cute romance, and a sprinkle of humor -- you've got just the read to warm your heart and make you smile this Valentine's.
Another hit by Mae Harden. Perfect for Valentines being so near. Al of the feels in this one without being too heavy. I loved this light snd lustful read.
Willow and Connor have sparks right away when they meet. Those sparks, however, are dimmed a bit by what the townspeople do to Willow to make her feel like she's the talk of the town. Willow experiences a lot of bad "luck" when she first arrives. I liked how Connor stood up for her and stood by her side. It was a nice, quick, easy read. It didn't feel rushed which was nice. The bonus epilogue included at the end was a nice addition.
Oh geez, Mae, you get me EVERY TIME! This book was a fun, quick read that is perfect with Valentine's Day coming up. Once I started, I couldn't put it down and finished it in under two hours. Connor and Willow keep you turning the pages with their chemistry, heat, sass, and did I mention steam? For a novella, it still had heat and a very well-rounded story. I loved it all and definitely want to read more from this small town series.
This book is a fun, sweet, sexy read! I love a small town story centered around a bakery, especially one that has so much meaning for Willow. She and Connor have great chemistry. It's an insta-lust that's smoking hot and totally believable. They knew each other when they were kids, so there was a bit of an already established connection between them. Even so, there's always a risk, especially in a book so short, to feel the couple didn't have enough time to develop a believable love. That wasn't the case for Sugar Pie. Mae Harden did a great job crafting a totally believable love story with depth and risk and laughs. An excellent read to get lost in.
Willow and Connor’s first run in with each other is nothing less than comical! I’m not sure if I’d call it a meet-cute, but maybe a meet-awkward? 😆 Since Willow and Connor’s first time of interacting with each other in town, there’s a scorching, instant attraction between the two of them that quickly evolves to more for the couple!
From the moment Connor is introduced, I got chivalrous, southern gentleman vibes from him! I can’t really explain why, but his use of the word ‘ma’am’ melted my insides. I thought he was the perfect combination of sugar and spice, knowing how to treat a lady in and out of the bedroom!
Knowing this was a short novella going into it prepared me for something short and sweet and that’s exactly what I got with this holiday romance! Sure, there were probably a few instances where things could’ve gone into more detail but I finished the book feeling more than satisfied with what we’re given.
Favorite Quotes: ”I won’t be satisfied with a cheap fuck in the supply closet.” -Connor
”Try shaking the food dish. It always brings my cat running. Or, you know, shake something. -Alex
Willow returns home to the small town of Sugar Creek when she inherits a bakery from her great aunt. Connor is the sheriff of this small town, and he remembers Willow from when they were young. There is an instant connection between these two when they reconnect, but will he be able to keep her safe when a saboteur is terrorizing her? This is a sweet and fin quick little gem of a story which has great secondary characters, as well as being humorous, heartwarming, and a steamy read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
This is the first book from this author and I am not disappointed. Willow is back in town to run her Great aunts bakery and after I run out to local sheriff it turns into more. Connor is a local boy you left and came back he’s strong and smart and knows what he wants. When local gossip almost gets the best of them It will take a little faith and a whole lot of detective work to keep them together but the HEA is worth it.
Enjoyed this book a lot. Who wouldn't fall in love with Connor, ex military and small town cop. Willow the daughter of a bad girl, according to gossip. Their sweet aunts plan on getting them together hoping for fireworks. Read their story,, it's a good one. Thanks to the author. Written by Cindy :)
This is an adorable, feel good holiday novella. It's a quick and steamy read. Willow inherits a bakery from great aunt, and it's a fun ride to opening including unintentionally falling in love. Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.
What happens when former small town girl Willow returns to small town Sugar Creek to fulfill her dead aunt's wish to re-open the family bakery? Nothing a run in with the sexy, dirty talking local Sheriff and a trip to the hot Doctor won't cure! Or will it? You'll have to read Mae Harden's latest meet cute release to find out!!!!!
Sugar Pie was the perfect recipe for a novella. It was a quick, sexy, hot, funny read with a dash of intrigue thrown in to spice things up. I just want to know where I can find myself a Connor?!!!!!
Mae Harden gives us another great read. Connor and Willow have an instant connection that can't ignore. Willow has moved back to Sugar Creek after inheriting a bakery from her Aunt. Willow hasn't been back since her mother moved them away when she was younger. And she fears that her mothers life decisions are going to affect her moving home. Connor remembers Willow from when they were younger, and can't wait to get to know her again. And he isn't letting her go. They have amazing chemistry, and the supporting cast of characters are wonderful as always. Connor is the perfect blend of swoon and sweet, and Willow is such a strong woman. If you haven't read Mae Harden, you need to. She writes amazing characters with with the perfect blend of sweet and steam.
If you have a sweet tooth for something a little naughty, romantic and sexy give in to that craving with Willow and Connor. Thank goodness our handsome local sheriff has been sent out to check on the new gal in town. This couple is sweet, sexy and have wonderful witty banter with a whole lot of dirty talk from our leading man. What a sweet ride with this couple! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
Willow has moved back to a childhood hometown to make sure a beloved aunt’s dream is brought to life. Connor is the local town sheriff who came back to his hometown after experiencing the world. They knew each other as children but have an unforgettable reintroduction this time around. The attraction is immediate and they have to work out what they really want and how to get it while dealing with the issues the town throws at them.
Really liked the characters and enjoyed their interactions throughout the story. Would love to read about more of the other characters in the future.
Fabulous, I absolutely love this one. It was a nice, quick, short read.
Connor meets Willow when his aunt ask him to go check up on her best friend's niece. When he walks into the abandoned bakery he sees her legs sticking out of the ceiling. Willow heard something upstairs when she went to check a bat flew at her, she lost her balance and fell through the floor. He asked her if she needs help getting down, she tells him obviously. He slides her down his body and enjoys the feeling, he tells her to let go he's got her. She thought he was the restaurant consultant but when she sees him she realizes he's the sheriff. When he finds out a bat made her fall he tells her she needs to get a rabies shot. He takes her to the doctor a few blocks away and stays with her the whole time. When she finally sees the doctor she sees why the sheriff won't leave her side. While Willow gets her shots Connor makes a phone call to get help patching her roof and door. When they arrive back at her bakery she tells him thanks for the help, but he tells her he's not leaving. He brushes his lips against hers and they begin to kiss. She tells him they shouldn't be doing this but he deepens the kiss and tells her to tell him to stop. A knock on the door pulls them apart, the local handyman is there to repair the door and the ceiling. As the handyman gets to work Connor asks Willow if he can take her to dinner tonight she tells him she can't she's sorry. He tells her another time then, and says he knows where she lives. After Connor leaves Willow gets started on the mountain of paperwork she has. Willow finds her aunts grandmothers sugar pie recipe and knows she wants to include it at the bakery. A few hours later the handyman stops by her office and tells her she's all set. She heads home stopping at the local grocery for a few items then takes a bath before meeting the baker her aunt had lined up for the bakery. She meets her baker Alexandria at a local pub, they go over the items they want to serve. Alexandria lets Willow know what equipment she needs and supplies. Well they are working Connor stops by and sits at the bar, he keeps glancing at Willow. When she gets up to use the bathroom she noticed he's gone, when she comes out she runs right into him. She told him she's sorry and he says he's sorry also. When she doesn't leave he grabs her by her hand and pulls her into his arms and kisses her. He told her he'd like to find a corner but for the first time he wants to take his time with her. She tells him people are watching and she needs to prove she's not just like her mom. When she leaves he tells her he's not giving up. Later that night his aunt calls him asking how did it go with the girl, he tells her he sure she already knows. He asked his aunt what's going on with Willow's family, and his aunt tells him. Early the next morning, Connor gets a phone call from his deputy that someone vandalized the bakery and the owner is pretty upset. The deputy ask if he'll come down to the bakery. He notices bright red spray paint with the words slut written across the front of the bakery. Willow and another female stand off to the side obviously upset. His deputy says he cleared the scene and found a brick and logged it into evidence. Connor tells Willow he'll find out who did this if it's the last thing he does. Willow follows Connor to see if anything is missing, when they get to the office he tells her he sorry. She tells him it's not his fault, but she feels like she doesn't belong here. He tells her of course she does one monster did this not the whole town. He tells her he won't let them get away with it, she tells him thank you. After the sheriff and deputy leave Alexandria and Willow get cleaning up the glass, and cleaning up. The local handyman arrives and fixes the window and suggest the sheriff look into her aunts nephews they always had a grudge against her buying the bakery back. Connor gets investigating trying to find out if anyone bought red spray paint at the local hardware store. Connor goes through the hardware store receipts as he sits across from the bakery keeping an eye on Willow. A few hours later Willow and Alexandria leave the bakery but she heads towards Connor. She asked him how long he intends to watch the bakery, he tells her his Deputy will watch it overnight. She asked him where will he be, he tells her outside her house watching her home. She tells him she's not in any danger and he tells her he doesn't wanna take any chances. She hands him a plate of food and tells him they tested a few recipes. She tells them they're headed back to her place to make the finalization of plans and grab a glass of wine. She asked him if he's going to follow her and he tells her yes. After Alexandria leaves for the night, she hates the idea of him sitting outside all night long so without thinking she walks out to him, she tells him to come inside he can protect her inside. He tells her it's a bad idea, she tells him no it's not. He tell her he can't get within five feet of her without keeping his hands to himself and that's in public. He tells her he's trying to be a decent guy why is she making it so hard. She tells him she thought she was making this easy she tells him she's confused. He told her one night won't be enough he wants everything with her, he tells her to go inside. She gives him a nod and heads inside, tired of thinking about what other people think of her. She kicks off her shoes and head to the bay window, she makes eye contact with him. She pulls off her sweater slowly, she lets her hand slowly drift down between her breast. She sees him get out of his truck the minute her hand hit her waistband. As she peels her legging down he stomping across the yard. He storms into her living room locking the deadbolt behind him. He yanks the curtains closed and asks her if she is trying to torture him as he walks towards her. She tells him he wants everything, so does she and she doesn't want him to freeze to death because he's stubborn. He kisses her like he's starving, when she moves her hand to his belt he snags both her hands, securing both in his. He tells her she said she wants everything, he's going to give it to her but he's going to take his time. He removes her bra, his mouth closes around her nipple his free hand running over her skin. He traces his fingers over her panties, working his way lower. When she squirms he tell her he thought she was going to let him take his time. She tells him she is, he tells her he's just getting started. When his finger presses into her core she moans, then he pulls them out and licks them. He releases her wrist and lays his arm over her stomach guiding her backwards. He pushes her onto the couch and drops to his knees then pulls her panties off. Hooking her legs over his shoulders and pulling her to the edge, then buries his head between her legs. Then his fingers press into her core, stroking her then he adds a second. He sucks on her clit then flicks it with his tongue, refusing to let her move her hips he holds her down. He rest his chin on her hip, he watches her sigh happy. When she sits up she grabs him by his collar and pulls him down on her she asks him why he's still dressed. He tells her she got a head start and lost hand privileges since she rushed him. He scoops her up and tosses her over his should and takes her to her bedroom. She tells him the door stick, so don't break it down. He sets her on the bed and undresses, her hands go to his neck and she pulls him down to kiss him. He pushes inside her, he asks her if she wants it sweet, slow and gentle. She tells him he can be sweet later, not in bed. He tells her to come for him, her eyes roll back in her head as she comes. Seconds later he comes so hard, he's shaking. Laying beside her she tells him that was insane. He tells her she's lucky he's to tired to move. She tells him she remembers something the handy man told her. He tells her he needs prof and she tells him about the journals her aunt kept. She grabs the box and they begin to go through them. He finds an entry about project cupid, her aunt and his aunt trying to get them together. Connor looks over at Willow and she asks him if he found something. He tells her yes but not what they're looking for. She asks him how they did this without them catching on, he doesn't know and he's the detective. They find an entry about her aunt's nephew and he tells her he'll take it to the judge in the morning. She ask him what are his plans for tonight and he tells her to have his head between her thighs. The next several days Alexandria and Willow work on getting the bakery ready for opening on Valentines's Day. The day before they finish and Connor pulls in and tells her to get in the truck he's taking her to dinner. He tells her he has something for her in the back, she finds a box with invitations to her opening. He tells her he went by her aunt's nephew home and when he went to talk to the youngest he had a can of spray paint, it was enough to arrest him. They arrive at the pub and he tells her to bring her box inside, he tells her to give the cards out. He walks around with her and introduced her, then they grab a booth. They order and chat waiting on their food. Her hand rest on his thigh, he moves his hand on her knee, and tells her to bad she's wearing jeans. He tells her he can't wait to get her to himself, she tells him let's go she's full. They drive back to Willow's house, and he tells her to get inside. He tells her to slow down and she tells him she doesn't want to. He tells her to tell him what she wants, so she tells him she wants it hard and fast right here and now. He yanks her jeans down and does just that. They fall asleep on the couch, then wake when his phone rings, his deputy tells him he caught another one of her aunts nephew with spray paint at the bakery. So Connor tells Willow he has to go. After he leaves she hears a commotion on her porch she tries to call him but he doesn't answer. She heads to her purse to grab her mace then she hears the noise again. She tries to call him again and he doesn't answer. So she tiptoes out onto her porch, what she thought was an animal is a man so she sprays him. She runs back inside and locks her door, until she hears Connor come. He handcuff the man laying on the ground, and tells Willow she did nothing wrong. The next day they have a line around the block all morning, Connor and his deputy had to do traffic control. Things slow down a little after lunch, Connor shows up with a big bouquet of flowers he holds the door for an elderly woman. He cups her chin and kisses her they break apart when a woman clears her throat behind them. Connor introduced his aunt to Willow, she tells her how highly her aunt talked about her. Connor's aunt asks if she could have one of her aunt's journals, they both tell her it's to late they already know what's in it. He gives Willow the flowers and they both notice it quiet and all eyes on them. He takes her outside, he tells her there's lots of things he wants to do to her. She tells him he can come over later he has a key and he can pack a suitcase. He tells her if he does he may never leave. She tell him that suits her just fine.

Willow moved back to her hometown to open re-open her great aunt's bakery. Someone wants to sabotage her and my heart broke for her. Luckily, Connor the sheriff, has taken a personal interest in her. These two are perfect for each other. PS-I would love for Alex the baker to get a book!n
A sweet and sexy small town romance with ole ty of banter and insta-love. As usual Mae sets things alight with her dirty talking alpha sheriff (yes ma’am 🤤🤤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥) A brilliant short in time for Valentine’s Day
Willow has returned to her small hometown to honor her aunt’s wishes to reopen her bakery. Not everyone in town is happy to see her, her mother had gotten pregnant with her at 16 and her father had gone to jail for robbery even before she was born, so she was very conscious of her reputation in town. It’s in severe jeopardy because of the sexy sheriff, Conner. He grew up in the same small town, left for the military and then was a police officer in Texas, before his aunt told him of the sheriff’s position being open. He rescues Willow from falling through the ceiling of her bakery and it’s love at first sight for them. But Willow fights it a little, thankfully Conner is not one to give up. A bit of mystery is added when someone vandalizes the bakery. Who doesn’t want Willow to open the bakery? Conner is trying to find a lead and keep a close eye on Willow, it’s the handyman who offers up two suspects. While trying to solve the crime Willow gives in to her attraction and invites Conner into her home and life. Their sexy times are hot! The vandals strike again, thankfully the deputy arrests one and Willow incapacitates the other at her home. Conner arrives in time to arrest him. She has a great grand reopening and many in the town are happy to have her back in town. No I love yous are said, but Conner does move in with her. You have to download the bonus epilogue. It’s one year since the reopening of the bakery, Willow finds out she’s pregnant and before she can tell Conner, he proposes. I love yous and they live happily ever after.

This holiday themed novella was such an adorable mix of humor, steam, and heartwarming yummy-ness that I couldn't help but want to gobble it up page after page! Connor and Willow have such an explosive chemistry that lights up each and every page. I seriously couldn't get enough of this sexy sheriff and the sweet bakery owner who he'd like to keep handcuffed to him forever.
It is the perfect little indulgence to put you in the Valentine's spirit and one you won't want to miss! I HIGHLY SUGGEST putting it on your TBR and doing it NOW! You'll so thank me later 😘

I love holiday novellas that are part of a standalone series. They're always So much fun and are a great way to read a lot of different authors. I love Mae Harden's Stripped Down series and I was excited to see her participating in this novella series.
Sugar Pie is such a fun read. It's steamy and funny which isn't always an easy combination. I love the banter between Willow and Connor. The heat is apparent from the start so that's always fun for a Valentine's read.
