Former Dallas prosecutor Lorenzo Reed has relocated to Florida with his girlfriend. He has a new job, a new home, and is hoping to start a new life.
He wasn't expecting his partner and boss to be Kate Noals, an established defense attorney with whom he shares intimate history.
He also wasn't expecting his first case to be a capital murder trial where the defendant is black and the victim is the son of an influential state senator.
Tensions flare both inside and outside the courtroom as Reed and Noals navigate the case, battling against a county attorney with political aspirations and nefarious forces that will stop at nothing to secure a conviction. Win or lose, both attorneys know that this case will change their lives as they know it.

A great book from a fantastic author! While I had a feeling I knew how the trial would end, I was not expecting the demise of their most important witness as well as how the book ended entirely. I would love a novel about Lorenzo and how everything ended up playing out for him.

A little off the beaten path for this author, but excellent as usual. Lorenzo Reed is ex army airborne, ex police officer, ex prosecutor and now defense attorney. He and his girlfriend move to Florida for new opportunities. Reed is surprised to learn that his immediate boss at his new job is Kate, a girl he went to school with. Their first case looks like a no win situation. A black security guard with a concealed carry permit kills the abusive son of a US Senator. The one person that can prove his innocence has disappeared. A case like this can strain a relationship. In this case, two relationships.
