Patience Moving in with my aunt in remote Rye Creek, California was supposed to give me a chance to concentrate on starting my new business. Instead, I’m distracted by the gruff and growly mountain man just down the road. He’s broody and built and begging to be taken down a few pegs.
Slate Eight years ago I abandoned my pro football career and escaped to the tiny mountain town of Rye Creek. It’s been my refuge—a safe place to hide out from the demons I left behind. Until Patience Ford walks into my bar and rocks my stable world. The curvy beauty challenges everything I thought I needed. But can I let go of my past and let her in?
Meet the mountain men of Rye Creek and the curvy women who steal their wild hearts. The Matched with a Mountain Man series can be read as standalones. Each book features a happily-ever-after with no cheating and no cliffhangers.
When Eve London was a girl she wanted to be a trapeze artist. Instead, she grew up to be like most women–a juggler–trying to keep bunches of balls in the air. Now she spends her days writing about the kind of men she likes – sexy, shameless, and just a little bit sarcastic.
Fabulous, I absolutely love this one. It was a nice, quick, short read.
With the help of Mama Mae and Aunt Jane, Patience meets Slate when she arrives in Rye Creek. She needs to stop by his bar to pick up a map to get to her Aunt Jane’s house. The only problem is she never left a map, so Slate tells her to follow him, but then her SUV doesn’t start. Slate tells her he’ll have his friend, North look at her vehicle, he’ll give her a ride, he has an order in for her Aunt and wants to pick it up. She tells him about her drive from San Diego and asks him how long he’s lived in Rye Creek. Her aunt invites Slate to stay for supper, but her needs to get back. A few weeks pass by and Slate can’t get the thought of Patience out of his mind. She arrives at the bar and tells him she owes her aunt so she’s here to help him paint. Patience tells him about the online business she is trying to get started while she works on the trim in the corner. He asks her about her business and she tells him about her previous job. When she reaches for an area and the ladder shakes, she reaches for Slate’s shoulders and drops the brush spreading paint down the side of his face. A glob of paint drips from his chin, he lifts his shirt to wipe it off. He lifts her down off the ladder. He tells her to climb on his shoulders and he’ll hold the paint. She tells him no, but he scoops her up onto his shoulders and wraps a hand around her thigh. He tells her he won’t let her fall, she asks him if he can handle this she’s not a string bean. He tells her he never liked beans, if they get done he’ll make her dinner. Patience convinces Slate to give the whole bar a fresh coat of paint. He whips up a pasta dish and they are drinking wine. She tells him he’s spoiling her and he tells her she deserves it. He tells her what needs to be fixed, and he’d like to get to know her better. She tells him she’d like that, he wants to kiss her but the front door of the bar opens and he yells that they are closed. North comes stomping in asking if Jane’s niece is here she moves towards him and tells him it’s her. North tells her they send the wrong part and the new one will be here on Monday. Slate tells her he’ll give her a ride back to Jane’s but Patience looks out the window at the heavy snow falling. He asks her if she wants to head back now and skip dinner, she tells him no. She tells him the food is delicious, and he tells her he hasn’t cooked for someone in a really long time. She asks him about getting to know each other better, and he tells her he feels like there’s something between them. They stand at the same time meeting halfway and their lips touch as the kiss deepens. She asks him if the door locks, he tells her it hasn’t been locked before. He slides the deadbolt into place, then walks towards her. She goes to the fireplace and sheds her shirt. He asks her if she is sure about this and she says yes. He undoes the clasp of her bra, then unbuttons her jeans. She kicks them off to the side, he crouches down at her feet and she steps out of her panties. He leans down and captures her mouth. Slate takes off his shirt, then his jeans, he stood before her naked. They go to the rug that’s spread out in front of the fire, lowering down stretching out in front of the flames. He hovers over her, and she pulls him down on top of her. He kisses a path down her neck and stops at her breast, licking and sucking. When his tongue makes contact with her she comes so hard her teeth chatter. He eases into her and moves his hips back and forth, she meet him thrust of thrust. Her arms wrap around him taking everything he has, then he collapse on hr chest. They lay like that for hours, she asks him if he want to talk about why it’s been so long. He tells her he’ll tells her anything she wants to know, she asks him why he moved to Rye Creek, so he tells her what happened. He got his brother Grady to be his attorney, he tells her the rest as tears well in her eyes. She tells him she’d never do anything like that, he tells her he knows. Slate’s buddies Forest, North, River and Grayson come to see him at the bar. They want to know what’s gotten into him. He doesn’t tells them he’s going to propose later. Slate’s phone rings and it’s his brother, Grady he’s calling to let him know his girlfriend is pregnant and they’re getting married. He hasn’t heard from him almost eight years. It’s the last thing Grady ever wanted was to be a father. Grady tells him he know this is hard for him and Slate hangs up on his brother. Patience hasn’t heard from Slate in three days, he said he had some errands to do with the guys. When Jane asks her to run some orders into town she stops by the bar. It’s not Slate behind the bar but North, she asks him where he is. He tells her he’s not in a good place, he doesn’t want her to see him like this. She pushes his door open and he tells her not to turn on the light. When he sighs she moves closer to him, he tells her he not feeling well and he’ll call her later. She asks him what happened he has her worried. He tells her he’s sorry he thought he was ready to move on but he can’t. She asks him if he can’t or won’t. He tells her about the phone call from his brother. She tells him he can’t go back she know this is eating him up inside. He tells her she deserves more, he’ll never be whole. She tells him they'll get pass this together, he tells her she should go, leave Jane’s and go home. Her heart shatters he doesn’t want her so she leaves. Weeks pass by and Slate can’t pull himself out of the darkness. His friends stop by but he’s to far gone. His brother Grady is sitting at the bar when he comes downstairs. He asks him what his relationship with Patience is, she came to his office and asked if he could help her find something. Slate ask him what did he tell her, Grady hands him something, he tells Slate he is sorry for everything. Slate tells him he know it wasn’t his fault but it’s going to take him time to forgive him. Slate asks him how he found him and he tells him Patience brought him. She’s outside waiting in her SUV, Slate walks towards her and pulls the door open. He asks her what she’s doing, she tells him she tried to leave but couldn’t she tells him she loves him. He asks her if that’s a problem, she tells him it is when he won’t let her. He tells her he wants to he doesn’t know if he can. She tells him she’s not giving up on him. She pulls him against her, even with his flaws she still wants him. He know there love is strong enough to hold them together and powerful enough to heal his heart. Aunt Jane gets Patience ready to go snowmobiling, Slate is taking her out. He asks her if she’s ready and she tells him lets go. The wind whips past them, tress passing by in a blur and stars twinkle overheard. They made their way up the mountain, and see the lights from town. Slate takes off his helmet then helps her remove hers, his lips connect with hers. He tells her to look up he brought her out to look at the stars. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a box. Slate drops to one knee and asks her to marry him, she tells him yes. He is hers and she is his, neither one on them are going to let go.

This short story was sweet but it was just okay to me. There wasn’t anything that I really connected with and took it to the next level. I did feel so sad for Slate and I was glad he got a happy ending!
The Right Partner to Heal His Broken Heart - Patience’s plan was to stay in Rye Creek temporarily whilst she regrouped, but what she didn’t know was that her fate differed from her plans. Slate had given up on love after the hell he went through, but everything changed after he met Patience. Spending time together heightened Slate and Patience’s attraction for each other, but a phone call from his family caused him to spiral, which nearly cost him a second chance at happiness.
Fortunately, Patience’s determination to help Slate get his life back on track made him finally realise his true feelings for her, so he took the opportunity to convince her to give them a chance at having the happily ever after they both deserved. I absolutely enjoyed reading this beautiful story about love and heartbreak, that hooked me from the first page and made me unable to stop reading until I reached the end. This book is a definite must read and deserves to be recommended to all avid romance readers.

Patience is on her way to staying with her Aunt Jane, up in the snowy mountains, after leaving San Diego. Stopping at a bar/etc, she found Slate, who helped her get up to the house. Aunt Jane is a bit of a matchmaker and sets Patience and Slate up several times, including painting his business. The two are able to pull of the others backstories and as they do, the sparks start to fly. Neither has been in a relationship for a long time, and they are making up for it. Suspense and stress hits Slate when his brother calls to say he is going to be a father, rekindling his emotions about his daughter dying. Major grief is dealt with in the story and luckily Patience has a plan to break him out of it. Loved the way the characters handled their emotions and fears. The ending was perfect.

Patience Ford is let go from her job in San Diego. She travels north to Rye Creek, California to live with her Aunt Jane. Aunt Jane is letting her live there for free for six months while Patience starts her own online business.
Eight years ago, Slate Burton gave up his pro football career and moved to Rye Creek. He runs the local bar. No one in town knows the real reason that he left his football career behind.
Aunt Jane is supposed to leave a map to her place behind the bar for Patience. She conveniently forgot so Slate takes Patience up to Aunt Jane’s house.
Patience ends up helping Slate repaint the bar. They get snowed in and get to know each other.
I was surprised that Slate opened up and told Patience the real reason he moved to Rye Creek. I was glad Patience didn’t give up on Slate.
Great start to a new series! Patience accepts an invitation from her aunt to relocate to Northern California, to restart her career on a new path. Slate, who’d relocated to Rye Creek, CA nine years earlier, was a man still trying to escape his painful past. Their connection is instant and for the first time in forever, Slate starts to feel again and better yet, thinks about a future with beautiful Patience. But old demons arrive to mess up a perfect union. Will Patience stick around or will Slate succeed in pushing her away?
Slate is my kind of hero, all alpha-growly, with a heart of gold. I really enjoyed this short and steamy story and I look forward to the rest of the series. Slate has some friends who may need some help finding a mate.
Book 1 in a Mountain Man series. Patience is in town to spend time with her aunt as she starts a new business. When she meets mountain man Slate there's a mutual attraction, but can it be more? Patience will need to live up to her name when it comes to Slate! He's had some tragedy to deal with and is used to being alone. He can't deny the feelings between them but can he overcome his past to give a promising future with a the caring, curvy woman a chance? Told in dual POV I like this short and spicy romance! The story has likable characters with realistic emotions and a satisfying epilogue. Looking forward to the next one!

Romance trope: insta-love Series: Matched with a Mountain Man Length: 51 pages
Plot: Patience is in town to visit her aunt and reset her life. On her first day there, she meets Slate; she needs some help but the grumpy bar owner can barely stand her. He doesn't intend to get involved with anyone, not after the last time went so badly. But Patience isn't a disaster waiting to happen; she's his forever, if he'll just let her in.
Commentary: Poor Slate - I didn't expect his backstory to be so tragic. I thought it would be an injury or a cheating ex-girlfriend. I can see why he had such a difficult time going for another relationship. Patience was, well, her name. He was lucky to have found her.
This is the first book in this series. Patience is moving in with her aunt. She has a plan to start a new business and just needs a place to stay for a bit. Slate started over 8 years ago after leaving behind a pro football career. It takes one meeting for things to get complicated for both of them. Patience’s aunt is match making and doesn’t waste any time starting. Promising to leave a map with Slate at the bar he owns but of course not actually doing that. The two are constantly being tossed together. They do get along well but neither was looking for a significant other. Could they be a perfect match? This book was a great read. Patience’s aunt is a hoot. I look forward to reading more books in this series. Great job Eve.
I really liked this book. It was fast moving and so well written. Patience had come to town to stay with her Aunt Jane and met Slate Burton on her first day. Getting over a few emotional obstacles, they have a slow build romance. This story had an emotional intensity all its own, with Slate's trouble from his past, to Patience working through if he wants her. This was a really great story, and for a short book it was neither rushed or incomplete. I loved that Slate was the one with the issue because men aren't always brick walls, and women can be the strong ones In the relationship. I liked the change up as it was realistic.
This was a good, quick read. Slate his himself way 8 years ago after a tragedy and Patience has come to his small town to start over after being downsized at work. It’s a cute story about two people who connect instantly and fall in love. There was some slight angst that did tug at my heart. There is a love scene but it’s not super graphic. Like a 🌶️.5 hot. The main issue is Slate gets over his issue pretty quick and there’s no more discussion about it afterwards. Seemed just a big too easy/quick to be really believable. But it is still a really good story. I will read another book by this author.
Although Patience moved to Rye Creek to kick start her business, that seemed to take a back burner as soon as she met Slate. And while Slate had a tragic past, his attraction to Patience couldn’t be denied and burned pretty hot. So, I felt a bit blind-sided when the news that his brother’s wife was expecting a child threw Slate back to the tragedy that had brought him to the small town and made him push Patience away. Thankfully Patience had a stubborn streak and although she realized the depth of his pain, she also understood the importance of moving on.
This is a short, instalove story that has a curvy female main character and a grumpy mountain man who is instantly attracted to her. Patience is moving in with her aunt for a couple of months due to downsizing performed at her work. Slate is the bar owner who rescues Patience when her car brakes down and there is no map to follow to her Aunt’s house. Sparks are present and steamy times occur when they are snowed in together. Then, something from Slate’s past comes back to haunt him. Will this couple still have a chance together?
A sweet beginning to the series. A heartbreaking event led Slate to move to Rye Creek eight years ago and he hasn't moved on since till Patience moved to stay with her aunt Jane to start her new business. The chemistry between the growly maintain man and the curvy siren is off the charts! Will Patience live up to her name when it comes to loving Slate who can't move on? I received an ARC for an honest review.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. The only part that felt a little off is Slate’s reaction when he finds out his brother is having a baby. Why did he feel like he could never love anyone, when at that point he’d already bought a ring? Also, we never got he “I Love you” moment, which I feel is more significant in this story than others like it. That being said, it was a sweet story and I definitely Italy want to read more in the series
4.5 ⭐ 2 🌶 This was the sweetest short story ever! It is also the first story ever where the FMC has the same first name as me!! I truly felt seen knowing she's curvy like me 😂❤
I absolutely adored the relationship between Patience and Slate, and how the relationship came together with the subtle push from the Aunt. Was there a cliché 3rd act breakup? Yes. But this was still worth the quick read imo!
I recommend this to any reader who enjoys short, insta love, romances <3
Slate by Eve London is part of the Matched with a Mountain Man series and is a quick, entertaining read and good read.
Patience moves to the mountains with her Aunt Jane who can’t resist setting her up with Slate, a local hottie who owns a bar and is an ex pro-football player.
Although this is an insta-love, it’s done with taste and with a good push from Aunt Jane, which I find so funny! I recommend for a romance with a TW of losing a child, ends with a HEA.
Patience is in Rye Creek to visit her aunt and start her online business. Her aunt tells her to stop at the local bar to get a map to her place, but seems the map is actually the bar owner, Slate. Slate, the rugged mountain man hiding from his past is instantly drawn to Patience and helps her to her aunt's when he really wants to help her to his place.
When his past comes back to haunt him, will Patience be able to tear the walls down?
For being a short story, this certainly moved hard and fast through the emotions. Most short stories don’t manage to achieve emotional depth but this one grabbed and held on. I really enjoyed it.
The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and the characters felt genuine and real. I received an advanced reader copy and voluntarily wrote this honest review.
An amazing book one in the Matched with a Mountain Man series. An emotional read that is well written, fast pace, funny, relatable, and engaging. The characters are likeable; the chemistry between them is instant and undeniable. Definitely recommended!

This short story has such pain and loss in it but also light, healing, supportive friends and family and love. The connection and chemistry between them in strong and I liked how she didn't give up on him when things weren't so good.

This is one of the best Insta love short story that I have ever read. When sleep met patients there was an instant attraction. Slate had been alone for eight years. Slate had experienced a tragedy that no one wants to go through and it takes patience to start putting back the broken pieces of this mountain man
Slate doesn’t expect to open his heart again, but then Patience walks into his bar. She is perfectly named, because he requires a lot patience to let go of the demons of his past. This was a very solid story for as short as it was and in joyed every second of this one. She brings him to his knees and to watch him fall was beautiful.
Slate is book 1 in the Matched with a Mountain Man series by Eve London 4.5 stars
Slate and Patience meet when she shows up at his bar looking for a map to get to her Aunt Jane’s place but Aunt Jane has other ideas…getting Slate to open his heart after a tragedy and Patience to show him the way…quick read, insta love and more mountain men to come…
This is a short story that was sitting on my TBR for a while but finally got to read because of the “Climb a Mountain Man” Summer Reading Challenge.
I really liked Slate and Patience. I could feel the pain of Slate for what happened in his past, and the reason he'd moved to Rye Creek in the first place.
“Climb a Mountain Man” Summer Reading Challenge - week #1
I enjoyed reading about Slate and Patience. It was heartbreaking learning about Slate's past but it showed he had a good heart. His story was so sad. Patience certainly was named correctly. Thanks for such a good story. Written by Cindy :)
