Too brief. It's a good place to start with chess openings though.

I am someone who knows how the pieces move, but that is all. I wanted to start studying chess and become a great player. This book was a great deal of help, but I have a few suggestions to go along with this book.
1 put in more pictures the see how the moves are used play by play. The photos in this book were not enough in my opinion for a new player.
2 I felt the notation was confusing at times and I even wondered if there were typos in a couple of photos.
3 there should have been a section on chess notation. I was constantly going to YouTube for aid.

(3.5 stars) This book felt like a long essay on chess openings. It was very basic, and didn’t delve too deep into further strategies of most openings mentioned. Though it was informative and I did learn some things. Chess Openings for Beginners is a great place to start learning openings. My only complaint is it uses more chess notation then it does diagrams, and I feel beginners would want to see the positions to understand the openings at play.

It’s a book explaining chess openings. It’s not special but it’s very accessible and a quick read for people who want to get a grasp on openings and defenses. I would choose a couple and focus on them and learn them and then go back and learn more and more. It’s a good book and I enjoyed it. Took me like one day to read in reality. I recommend.

This book is an “Oh Wow”!

I never realized there is so much strategy in the first mover and after three moves, there are over a million possible moves. I turned to backgammon from chess, but this is the book that will bring me back!
