When Discipleship Cost Everything Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) paid the ultimate price for his faith and principles. A pastor and founding member of the Confessing Church in Germany, Bonhoeffer participated in underground conspiracies against Hitler. Best remembered for his writings, his story continues to inspire and instruct Christians more than fifty years after his death. This gripping account of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s life puts in context the horrors of Nazi Germany and the challenge Hitler presented for dedicated German Christians. The events of World War II take on a new reality when viewed through the life of one man, his family, and associates.
One of the bravest men to ever live - Dietrich Bonhoeffer. There were so few Germans that stood up to the Nazis that they are rarely mentioned in the study and teaching of the Holocaust. But Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a true man of God and believed that if you profess to be a Christian you live like Christ would have you live. When others are suffering you come to their aid, even if it costs you your life. I want to read more about this amazing young man that was executed at Flossenberg, which I visited several years ago, for no other reason than he spoke out against Hitler. How successful would the Nazis have been if there had been a 100 Dietrich Bonhoeffers? We will never know.
This short biography clearly told the story of Bonhoeffer, his younger years, his education, ministry and his ideas concerning Germany and Hitler's ideology. He gave his life for something he believed in. While the subject matter was depressing, the book was well-written.
