False Heirs, takes place several years after Scions of the Black Lotus and just before Prelude to Insurrection. It follows a younger Tian as he is forced to decide between clan loyalty and his own mortality.
JC Kang's unhealthy obsession with Fantasy and Sci-Fi began at an early age when his brother introduced him to The Chronicles of Narnia, Star Trek, and Star Wars. As an adult, he combines his geek roots with his professional experiences as a Chinese Medicine doctor, martial arts instructor, and technical writer to pen epic fantasy stories.
Zheng Tian is a 16-year-old assassin for the emperor. A member of the Black Lotus Clan. This is to be his 23 assassination. He was to assassinate a 14-year-old boy named Li Bin. Li Bin plays a pipa, an instrument usually played by women. Tian thinks something isn't right about his orders, so he offers to help the younger boy with a few things and begins to investigate why a 14-year-old is to be killed. This story is exciting and intriguing, we get to follow Tian and his fellow assassin Jie as they uncover the truth.
This is a very short story with an ending that means you need to go and read the Prelude to Insurrection and the Dragon Songs Saga to find out what happens next.
Zheng Tian is only sixteen but he is already an accomplished assassin. He is supposed to kill a boy. Tian starts to wonder why. It ended in a cliffhanger to force the purchase of the series. Not cool to do in what is SUPPOSED to be a short story.
