Noah wants to keep his family safe – but his intruders want to torture them. Can his family make it to morning, or will their night end in bloodshed?
Noah has decided to quit his job and leave behind a career defending criminals so he can spend more time with his loving family.
Leon is an angry young man whose brother’s killer walked free thanks to Noah’s skills in the courtroom. He is desperate for ruthless, bloody revenge, and decides to enact this revenge by holding Noah’s family hostage, and forcing Noah to watch the slow, brutal torture of those he loves most.
At first, Noah cooperates. But, as the night progress, and the treatment of Noah’s family becomes increasingly sadistic, Noah begins to realise that Leon doesn’t intend to leave his family alive. He has no choice but to fight – even if he is gravely outnumbered, and his opponents are experienced murderers.
Can Noah save his family from imminent death? Or will Leon and his gang be able to enact their ruthless revenge?
This is another Blood Splatter Book from horror-master Rick Wood. Expect gore, expect violence, but most of all, expect the unexpected…
I had an idea of how this would play out, but it didn’t end that way. And I wish it had. The ending was very overcomplicated and sort of went off the rails. I didn’t care for it much. I really wish I could get more detailed and specific, but I’d be ruining things. The rest of the story was done well and made the most of it’s revenge/home invasion/torture type of premise. I’ve read much nastier books like this, but this didn’t lean too heavily into the gore factor. Still plenty of very violent acts, but nothing that tested the splatterpunk boundaries. The perpetrators were fine and had enough depth and logic to make their actions sensible. Noah was very flat in certain spots, especially when the stakes were high. For instance, Izzy, his baby daughter, was tossed out a window (Plenty more with her, so promise it’s not a spoiler.) and he didn’t seem to react much to it. I also really wished that he had a better conclusion, and the opposite for Aubrey. I didn’t care for her all that much and her ultimate resolution didn’t feel like it was totally appropriate. The last interaction with Verity was really far-fetched, too. So, not without it’s minor issues, this was a decent nailbiter with a not so great ending.
I’ve been reading a lot of really good books lately, and this is definitely one of them. A home invasion story is always pretty horrific anyway. A gang of four break in and terrorise the Clark family. Leon who is the head of the gang, had a younger brother Jamal, who was killed by a police officer, who was then found ‘not guilty’ of Jamal’s murder. Noah Clark was the lawyer who defended the police officer, which is why Leon and the gang are out for revenge, bearing in mind they had already tortured and killed the other lawyer, who was on the case, and his family. This is a brutal, story with some quite squirmy moments, which is great for me and anyone else who loves a splatterpunk read. This has me gripped from page one, with a twist at the end, I didn’t see coming. This was my first Rick Wood book, but I’ve since added more to my reading list. Highly recommend to anyone who has a strong stomach!!
This is the first book I have read by Rick Wood and it was a fast paced enjoyable read with plenty of dread and terror. The ending was a bit silly but and not believable. I will check out others in this series of books by him.
This was a great read and I e I thoroughly enjoyed. It grabs you from the start and draws you feel into the violent, blood thirsty massacre. What Leon does is disgusting and horrifying. But the fight that Aubrey and her family gives them certainly justifies what she does. Leon is a nasty and beastly man that doesn't care or seem to have any empathy. He has his family with him and wants justice his way, or does he? A fantastic twist at the end that has you reeling . Captivating and gruesome and we'll written book any extreme reader. Not for the easily offended but definitely recommended to those of you that can read and understand that it is a story and brings awareness to the horrors out there that do happen.
This book was kind of my deciding factor on whether or not I would continue to buy this authors work and the answer is.... gonna have to pass. While I didn't hate this book, there wasn't a ton to like either. I really wish this author would stop using rape as a plot device in all his works.
My first book by this author, and it certainly won't be my last. Home invasions are close to the top of the list of things that terrify me, and this book hurt my heart. Not due to the violence or gore but because of why the victim was targeted.
Noah has just given notice at his job. He was a criminal defense attorney and he just couldn't stomach that he played a key role in letting criminals go free. When a police officer guns down an unarmed young man, Noah's prowess in the courtroom allowed the officer to go free, leaving the family of the slain young man angry and desperate.
Leon, the young man's brother, brings his brothers and girlfriend to Noah's family's house to exact his revenge. But it isn't just Noah who has to pay...his wife and two young children are targets as well.
As you can imagine, what goes on inside the house is nothing short of brutal and sadistic. But instead of just mindless violence, the conversations between captives and captors was extremely well done and quite realistic. The sense of desperation and absolute terror permeated the pages until the brutal end.
Highly recommended for seasoned readers of the genre.
This is another book by this author in his Blood Splatter Books series. It’s about a gang that invades Noah’s family house with devastating consequences. But the intruders have other things in mind like wanting to inflict pain plus torturing the whole family. They take them hostage and inflict un-sufferable pain beyond any human’s imagination. Will the family survive the evening of suffering in their own home.
Noah is trying to protect his family but how will he manage it when the intruders do not intend to leave them all alive. There is a point where event’s take a twist and I am routing for the family, but shockingly it twists again which was unexpected.
The book is quite horrific and scenes which made me squirm and feel uncomfortable, but that is the whole point of the book. Not for the squeamish.
It grabbed me from the first to the last page, it is a brilliant series not to be missed you are in for a treat if you are a horror reader.
Originally, I rated this One-Star, but after some consideration, I think it deserved one more. Mainly because the plot was pretty decent. A broken man looking to avenge his brother's death, who died at the hands of a police officer. The officer is then acquitted due to his skillful lawyers. It was a wonderful storyline that would definitely fit my perfect crime thriller. However, as a "blood splatter" thriller/horror genre... it missed the mark.
When I purchased this book, I was in the mood for some sadistic, horrifying gore. Though there were some instances of explicit scenes, there just wasn't enough to be considered disturbing. I was hoping for something that would make my stomach turn; that would make me question myself for lifting it up. I honestly felt as though I was reading anything any other crime novelist would write.
I'm not saying this is bad as far as the story. "Home Invasion" is just mediocre gore.
Leon and his small crew of ruffians decide to seek vengeance on the people involved in his brother, Jamal’s death and this includes the lawyer who defended the cop who killed his brother. Now these animals are out to torture Noah, his wife and 2 small children but not without a fight.
Yet another crazy story by Rick Wood. The twist, OMG THE TWIST!! I did not see that coming, this story did not go at all as I expected. Simply magnificent! Seriously hoping there’s going to be a second part to this story!
This was a really good home invasion book. It provided a lot of twists and turns that weren’t expected. I felt like the very end left something to be desired as it was not really finished in my opinion. Nonetheless a very good read.
Mr. Wood has another nail biter under his belt. I could not put the book down. The twists and turns were great The ending suggests a follow up. I hope that is going to happen.
