When I met Cal Scott, I knew he’d be a distraction.
At six-foot-two, with ebony hair, deep gray eyes, and a smile that could only hide an agenda, I knew he was trouble. And for the first time in my life, a little trouble was just what I needed.
No. What I wanted.
It wasn’t like I’d ever marry the guy. Until I did.
What I thought would be my happily ever after, was only the beginning. Cal has a secret, and I’m terrified the truth will not set me free. That it will break me. It’s going to break us.
Portia Moore is an Amazon and iBooks bestselling author of romantic suspense, including the popular If I Break series, the Her series, and the Collided series, which combined have sold over one million copies across all platforms. Located in the chilly Midwest, her favorite vacations are anywhere that's hot and sunny with a beach, reading the same kind of heart-pounding, twisty, edge-of-your seat romantic thrillers that she loves to write. When that's not possible, she loves drinking wine, cooking (also with wine) and spending time with her little family of one human child and two furbabies, one that barks and one that meows.
i prefer books that delve into human psyche than ones that delve into world building, and this book is proof. the highs are higher than ever, the lows are lower, just like the h and H's love story in this book. just the audacity of the author to conceive and achieve this book is commendable. It only took me a week to finish it, but here we are! This is a 'you have to read it to believe it' kinda book ;)
Let me just say that if I were only rating book one, it would be 5 stars. 6 stars even.. if possible. I love book one, I have read and reread it many times. I love the FMC and MMC of book one. I continue to love our FMC throughout the series.
*spoilers incoming*
This book is a WILD ride. The relationship is both monogamous and why choose in a way. I cannot provide additional details without completely giving away the story after book one. Many more characters are introduced after book one, I’ll just say that. Also, beware of the pregnancy trope! Normally, I hate it. But somehow I don’t find the trope to interfere with the story, but help it along the first time. The second time just elicited the “wtf” response from me. Triggers: DV and assault, unexpected pregnancy, relationship turmoil and heart break, cheating and betrayal, emotional abuse, a large and unsettling age gap with an already problematic pairing that could be considered the grey area right next to pedophilia…. Also, I hated the ending. With a passion. The way everyone reconciled after HEINOUS behaviors and it was just… FINE!? Hated it. There were characters written later that we are clearly supposed to like that did things that made them so unlikeable (personal opinion)… yet we were supposed to move past them. I know that was the author’s intent because it was the only time she wrote our very likable female lead in a way that was out of character (imo) to excuse or smooth over other characters’ actions as the series went on. Also, multiple characters after book 1 are written very differently then their original character setups. Prepare to dislike Hillary and Raven after book one if you’re anything like me…
The takeaway: I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend book one. Buy it, rent it, download it, absorb it into your skin. However, you are not missing out if you stop there. Yes, some things will be unanswered, but you saved yourself many hours. I would say feel free to read 1.5 as well. I don’t have a problem with that segue novella. If you must, book 2 is doable. However, as the series continues it gets to be less and less of a fun read. And the ending? Enough to make you regret picking the books up in the first place (after book one ofc).

ok, honestly this book was pretty well written for a romance novel and all, and it had A LOT of plot twists that i did not see coming, i mean usually it takes me a while but i can get a pretty close guess to the ending but this time I could not have ever guessed he had multiple personality disorder or whatever.
Thing is, I really did not like that whole story line, like her falling in love with one personality and then doing so again with the other? yeah, no thanks. Honestly this might not be the best review ‘cause the book was so bad I couldn’t get past the second book, but it just had SO many things that I personally don’t enjoy. I don’t want to spoil thaaat much and go into a lot of detail but it was just personally not my cup of tes.
If you like the why chose trope then im pretty sure you’ll like this book, or at least finds it decent. I mean its basically as close as the trope can get while having only one physical body as a love interest.
If anybody enjoyed it but doesn’t like the why chose trope I would love to have your opinions so maybe I can re-read it with a new perspective.

How have I not discovered this author before? Portia Moore has to be my new favorite author. I read the first book in this series and eagerly went to buy the second when I saw there was a box or complete series on Kindle Unlimited. I grabbed it even though I am not a fan of complete or box series. I have been burned too many times where the series doesn’t live up to the hype and I am stuck with some books I won’t read. Let me tell you that is not the case here. If I could have read this series from beginning to end without sleep or obligations I would have. The characters come to life. You never know what is going to happen next. I was literally on the edge of my seat to see what was going to happen next. I will be buying all the books in this collection because I know I will be reading this series more than once. But first I am going to buy all the book in the “Her” series. I can’t wait to get started on it!
I absolutely loved this series. The characters and the story and the way it plays out. Very well written and knowledgeable about the subject. I can't wait to read more.
Complete review of the whole series (minus the stand alone spin offs)
First let me say the whole series is included in this one book. I originally thought I would have to buy the last two books of Lauren and Cal's story. I was pleasantly surprised that was not the case since I mostly read books that are KU. I don't want to give away any spoilers so this will be an extremely vague review. I have read a few books that dealt with this topic but none were like this book. It was very interesting and I loved the way it was written. If it wouldn't have been such a good story I probably wouldn't have finished it because the editing was awful. It didn't flow because of so many mistakes. The way things were worded made me reread sentences at times. At first the story had some angst but it turned into more drama than anything before the halfway mark. That didn't deter me from wanting to finish the story because I was invested in the main arc. I did end up skimming a lot once the drama became more of the main focus, though. By the ending it turned back to the main arc being center of attention and I read it again instead of skimming. I doubt I'll read anything else by this author. The errors were just too much for me to want to buy any. Especially when there are so many others that I can read on KU. POV: Multiple first person Angst: 2 out of 5 Steam level: 1 out of 5 Storyline: 4 out of 5 Character relatablity: 4 out of 5
The cover looked cool. So, I was all “let me check this shit out”. And then, like most of the time, considering how many books I rated two and one star compared to three, four, and five, I was disappointed.
I tried to like it but I couldn’t really get into it. I don’t know if it was the writing style, the writing itself, or the plot.
Yes, I’m recycling my own reviews again. I’m lazy today and want to finish putting up reviews on all the books I had read in the past (but hadn’t really reviewed).
