In the Intern, Volume 3, Bentley and Ceci find their way back to each other and get the happily ever after that they deserve; Ceci also gets the answers she’s always needed to move on after her father’s death. All of the heartbreak and pain is worth it in the end, for these two, because they end up where they should have been all along – in each other’s arms. All romance readers love happy endings; for most, the HEAs are what keep us reading through all of the heartache the couple experiences throughout the story, and while I am one of those card carrying happily ever afterers, I also know that reality doesn’t quite happen that way, and even if a couple does reunite after a shitstorm of pain, there’s still more to be endured…more to struggle with to get to their epilogue. In After the Internship, Brooke Cumberland gives readers Bentley and Ceci’s new beginning – the one that occurs after the proposal…the one that’s not rooted completely in hearts and flowers…the one that gives perspective into the work that still needed to be done in order for Bentley and Ceci to get their storybook ending.
When the novella begins, a few years have passed, and Bentley and Ceci have settled into their committed relationship quite well. Bentley’s modeling career is in full force, and Ceci’s been traveling around the world with him, experiencing all the highs and lows that come with the famous model’s lifestyle. Ceci’s finished her degree, but she hasn’t had a chance to do anything with it, putting her focus solely on supporting Bentley and planning the wedding of their dreams. But a meddling mother-in-law, a ghost from the past, and a few tabloid headlines threaten to destroy everything Bentley and Ceci have overcome and fought to hang onto, which leads both of them to think about how they live with the outside pressures and still maintain a healthy relationship without getting frazzled and losing themselves to guilt and anger.
After the Internship is a great addition to Bentley and Ceci’s story. It gives readers one more glimpse into how good they are together, both in and outside of the bedroom. I’m sad to see their story end, but I’m glad Brooke gave them the send off they deserved!
