Blake Corbin is seventeen, bored, psychotic, and too pretty for his own good.
Not satisfied with high school girls, Blake devises a new project for himself. He’ll destroy his boss Apple Shannon, a cheerful thirty-something who owns The Kitchen where he works after school.
First, he’ll seduce her.
Then, he’ll blackmail her, claiming she molested a minor.
Finally, he’ll take everything from her: her business, her self-respect, and her reputation.
The best part is she’ll blame herself, so it’s not just brute force destruction. It’s eloquent and complex. There’s layers to the whole thing.
V. J. Chambers writes about being inexplicably attracted to the dangerously alluring. Her works span mundane settings and fantastic ones. She writes about serial killers, cult leaders, werewolves, witches, for-hire assassins, zombies, space pirates, and regular everyday people.
She lives in Shepherdstown, WV, with her boyfriend Aaron and their cat Isis.
Very short, but a thrilling look into the protagonist's messed-up world view. I'd be interested in looking into further books in this series or other works by the author.
Blake is a rich high school psycho who is going to destroy his boss, Apple's life. He wants her restaurant and is going to use pornography to get it. Macy, the girl he uses for sex and is abusive toward helps him out by pumping Apple for info. A few things happen and all is not what it seems in this slick novella.
Forbidden Falls by V.J. Chambers was one of those quick, easy reads that just slides down effortlessly 😮💨📖✨
Not a full-on thriller-thriller — like, I wasn’t scared or clutching my blanket or checking my locks — but it definitely had that “this should NOT be happening but omg tell me more” energy 😭💀 The guy?? Absolutely insane. Me?? Intrigued anyway. It happens.
It kept me hooked the whole time, but that ending?? Abrupt. Like “wait wait WAIT we’re stopping here??” 😭 I seriously feel like there’s more to the story, and if there ever is, I will devour it IMMEDIATELY.
Fast, messy, entertaining — exactly the vibe I was in the mood for. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 — fun, chaotic, and left me wanting more 🖤📚
Only 3/5 for this one. Book one was good and had me wanting to learn about more people on Liars Island, but... the stories seem to be getting less interesting. I'm not totally giving up hope on this series because of the array of authors involved in writing their own separate book for the series. Fingers crossed that the next one I read is able to suck me back into this series that has so much potential...
Wow, I didn’t know I could hate a main character that much 😂 the author captures pure incel vibes from the first page.
Reading a pov from a character like this is always gonna be wildly uncomfortable. By the end I was feeling really tense and scared for Apple 😰
But this novella feels kind of incomplete? The ending was an interesting start of a twist but not enough to satisfy you - it read like a teaser for a full novel rather than a standalone story.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Forbidden Falls by V. J. Chambers is an amazing story that I have loved reading. This is book number three in this amazing series that I a so hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about thrillers, suspense and mysteries.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Blake Corbin is a smart teenage boy who is bored. He needs something to make him feel important. Then the idea comes to him! It is not nice what he did! But will he get away with it? A great suspenseful story! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Made it part way through the 2nd chapter & quit reading. The characters are disgusting - the book is like reading porn with teenagers. The first book I read in this series, Liars Lane was excellent. This isn't even worth wasting time to read 64 pages.
Really enjoyed the storyline. Not sure how I feel about main character... Teen, ignored and abused, but entitled... Biggest issue is editing. Several instances of words missing. Takes you out of the flow to figure it out.
A high school guy’s plan to get revenge on his boss. The plan was to seduce, humiliate, and blackmail her. For a while, we read on about how he was failing at his task. The ending was a mild, ironic twist. Overall, a nice short read.
