Thank you in advance to the author, Mindy Obenhaus, for providing a complimentary review copy through JustRead Publicity Tours. A positive review was not required or requested.

This was NOT my first introduction to the author. My first one was with her Rocky Mountain Heroes’ Her Rocky Mountain Hope. That was definitely a heart-breaking, but beautiful read.

So, when the first book in this series A Father’s Promise came along, I had to read it. This is just as beautifully written, heart-breaking, and sweet as those two previous titles mentioned. Obenhaus knows how to draw the reader in and capture their attention.

The adorable cover of A Father’s Promise sets off this series, and this cover is JUST as adorable. What is it about cowboys, horses, and kids?

Some characters from the first book appear here – Wes, Laurel, Paisley, and Rae. Even though this is a great standalone read, to really get the full character connection, I would definitely read the first one.

I immediately adored Sadie and loved Mick. Christa took a bit of time for me to get used to. But, I definitely admired her dedication to the little girl. I admired Mick’s dedication to step up to care for his niece despite being unprepared for it.

In this book, Mick is trying to care for his orphaned niece after she loses both parents in an accident. But, he soon might risk losing her to her father’s parents despite their planning (Sadie’s mother was Mick’s sister).

The initial meeting between Mick and Christa over Sadie’s room is not only a sweet moment, but funny as well. But, a snow storm strands them together. Given this takes place in Texas and with them having a snow storm over February 14th & 15th, 2021; it is a bit ironic. Though how the two deal with the storm is definitely realistic.

Despite spending time with Mick and Sadie, Christa isn’t looking for a romance due to a previous bad experience. But, after hearing that Mick’s meeting with the lawyer doesn’t look good, she proposes marriage for him to keep Sadie.

After designing Sadie’s room, the two don’t need to be around each other – yet Sadie’s growing relationship with Christa is downright adorable. Neither Mick nor Christa think they’re the marrying type despite their growing attraction.

During a visit to Christa’s, Sadie is hurt which gets mentioned later on. Mick is right to believe that the accident could impact his case; however, even children being raised by two (2) parents can get hurt. And, the injury isn’t too serious.

Christa, in between dealing with Sadie and Mick, is trying to buy a building adjacent to Bliss Hardware so she can expand the store. However, the current owner isn’t willing to sell.

It is during a probate hearing the readers learn the truth about the building, and a truth that puts Christa’s expansion at risk, but that isn’t the only thing put at risk.

Christa is also being lured back to the previous job she had a bad experience with, but the opportunity is slowly calling to her.

Mick and Christa don’t have a kiss until about 75% of the way into the book.

Christa accidentally learns the truth and is furious enough to consider the other job.

Obenhaus definitely drew this shocker out to nearly the end. Part of me was upset with Christa because of a misunderstanding and had she accepted Mick’s apology, she wouldn’t have been left feeling the way she was.

Still, the author makes it work and just under “time” too.

This was one of those “happy” tears endings and I really want to know what happens down the road for this family, especially Sadie.

I very much dislike grandparents or any relative that decides to go against the wishes of the parent(s). That said, it was such a brief part, but I really wanted to know more about why her paternal grandparents wanted her. As much as I don’t like that type of story line, I would’ve also liked it to have played out a bit longer. As someone who was raised by a single mom since I was 4, I saw no reason why a single parent is inadequate to raise a child and those remarks by the attorneys irked me (lol).

The lack of communication between Christa and Mick led to more problems than if they’d have just talked with each other.

Still, I REALLY loved this book!!

A Brother’s Promise was such a sweet story! It is part of the Bliss, Texas series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone novel. I really liked seeing these two neighbors, who were only acquaintances, grow into friendship and then much more.

Sadie was a sweet girl and it was heartwarming to see how much she loved her Uncle Mickey and how much he loved her, too. They were both grieving a huge loss and Mick was doing all he could to make a good home for her.

I thought that Mick and Christa were great characters who didn’t expect to fall in love or have a family. They both carried some things from their pasts that hindered them a bit emotionally and made them doubt whether the other person could possibly want them.

I really enjoyed this book and that snowstorm felt very realistic, as I just experienced the same thing recently! The ending felt a bit rushed to me, however, it might just be because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters. I hope to see them appear in future books in the series.

Sometimes love hides in plain sight.

Mick get's custody of his 5 year old niece, Sadie, after his sister and brother-in-law die in a tragic accident. His neighbor, Christa offers to help him get Sadie settled into her new home, and quickly becomes a fixture in their lives. But will he lose it all when his custody is challenged?

A heartwarming read, highly enjoyable read with an engaging plot and an adorable little girl. The second in a series, it stands on its own. I was happy to see many returning characters, and was cheering for Mick from the start, I loved his determination to honor his sister and brother-in-law's wishes by giving Sadie a stable home. Christa is a natural with Sadie, she has many great suggestions and excellent taste in color schemes. I loved how she gives Sadie space to grieve, while also helping her to feel comfortable in her new home.

Sadie is so cute, she instantly falls in love with Mick's dog, Dixie, and she would always be saying things like, " I think the dog misses us," or "I think Dixie is lonely." I think that the author did an especially great job with Sadie, showing her ups and downs as she struggles to cope with her new reality.

Overall, a heartwarming read about family, friendship, and love.

A BROTHER’S PROMISE is part of a new series and I loved every minute of it. The story takes place in Bliss, Texas and Mindy Obenhaus describes it so beautifully that I am ready to pack my bags and go see it for myself. What more could you ask for right? A FATHER’S PROMISE deals with so many different emotions that one minute I was giggling and the next tearing up. I love when an author can do that to their readers! Don’t you just love small town romance stories?

A BROTHER’S PROMISE will surely pull at your heart strings and make it very hard for you to put down. If you are like me, you won’t be able to stop until you know what happens to all of these beautiful people in Bliss. Reading how Mick and Christa responded to each other is very funny since both are so stubborn. Is it possible for them to get a chance at love if they would just stop and listen to the other? I’m not going to tell you, but I will say that you really should read A BROTHER’S PROMISE and get to know this lovable small town. Also, a big secret is revealed that shocks both Christa and Mick to their cores. That’s all I can say!

A BROTHER’S PROMISE is an awesome way to spend the afternoon or evening. I’m so excited to continue with the series and learn more about my new found friends. Once you start A BROTHER’S PROMISE you won’t be able to put it down and will find yourself cheering for Mick and Christa and little Sadie too as they try to navigate their way through a very different and unique situation. Be prepared to have Sadie steal your heart! Mindy Obenhaus will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go!

Love Inspired books are always a GREAT read. A Brother's Promise is the second
book in the Bliss, Texas series by Mindy Obenhaus. I had the pleasure of reading
book one in this series, although this book reads great as a Stand Alone book.

Mick Ashford, a local rancher in Bliss, TX, becomes a Single Dad overnight. He
takes custody of his 5yr old niece after the tragic death of both of her parents.
Sadie's mom, Mick's Sister, and her dad died in a Plane Crash. Mick knew he
had to step up and take care of his niece. He wants to make her feel comfortable
so one of the first things is he wants to paint and decorate a bedroom for her.
He heads to the local Hardware Store, which is run by Christa Slocum, where
he selects a paint color for the bedroom. Christa knows by the color he chooses,
he is going to need some help and advice. Christa is also Mick's Neighbor and
although they have been neighbors for sometime, they really haven't gotten to
know each other. Christa steps in and helps Mick get Sadie settled into her new
home. Christa is also that "motherly" figure that Sadie is missing right now. Mick
feels his heart expanding with LOVE for Sadie and actually for Christa also. He never
imagined he could be the "Daddy" type, also being a loner, he never imagined he could
fall in love with someone. Mick is suddenly sued by Sadie's Paternal Grandparents for
Full Custody. Mick knows he has to fight for Custody of Sadie and for the "family" he has
created with Sadie and Christa. Will he gain Full Custody of Sadie and honor his sister
by raising her? Will Mick give up his "loner" lifestyle to have a family with Christa and
Sadie?

WOW, I absolutely LOVED this book! I read it from front to back within 2hrs. The
storyline, although tragic, has many heartwarming moments. I especially was
warmed by Christa stepping in and helping Sadie be comfortable and help
her grieve through the loss of both parents. Mick is a loving Uncle and I love
how Sadie really enjoys spending time on the Ranch with Uncle Mick.
Grab a copy of this book, you definitely won't be disappointed.

I have never read a book by this author that I haven’t enjoyed. Her books are well written and the characters call out to you and draw you into the story so that you couldn’t think of leaving.

This book is no different. Mick and Christa pull us in and we just can’t get enough of them. Of course, Sadie really steals the show though! I mean she’s this sweet little girl who just lost her mother and who is now being raised by her uncle. While my bonus babies didn’t lose their mother I can relate to this a bit as we did have a bit of a fight for custody with them so I know all about the feelings that run through you when you think you might lose that sweet little one.

I really enjoyed this book. And with recent events, it is definitely more believable to me that Texas could have a snowstorm! Living in MO I know all about snowstorms and blizzards but found it a little unreal that Texas would be suffering one. Now though, totally believe they could! It’s just not as common.

A central theme that I picked up on and set aside for future reference in life was lack of communication. How often could problems be avoided if we simply communicated better with each other? Most of the time. Christa and Mick had way more problems and conflict than they should have and it was pretty much all lack of communication.

I really enjoyed this book and hope you do too. This is the second book in a series but can be read as a stand-alone book though you do see characters emerge who were in the first book.

A Brother's Promise was a read that my soul didn't know it needed to hear! So incredibly heartwarming and perfection in every sense of the word!

The story begins in a place of desperation as Mick Ashford, a rancher that is also known to be a loner, is not only dealing with the death of his only sister and brother-in-law in a tragic accident, but he is now the primary caregiver of his precocious five year old niece, Sadie.

Christa Slocum is Mick's neighbor in small town Bliss, Texas and is the owner of the local hardware store that Mick frequents. Their general friendship quickly becomes a great asset to both Mick and Sadie as they struggle to find a new normal.

The chemistry between the trio is instant and adorable, the reader getting the sense that they've somehow always been family, and I love that sweet little Sadie isn't treated with kid gloves, but an age-appropriate maturity that seems to mirror her personality. I cannot even begin to imagine the matureness that would happy for anyone that has lost a parent, let alone two, despite their age, and this is written into Sadie's story remarkably.

I would be crazy not to mention the eerie foreshadowing that occurs at the beginning of the novel, telling of a freak ice storm that hits Texas and wreaks havoc on the small town, the similarities almost identical to what us Texans experienced a few weeks ago. Craziness!!

I was absolutely smitten with A Brother's Promise. It is the perfect balance of hard work, faith, friendship, and family all nestled in a small Texas town (one of my favorite settings), and I found myself voraciously soaking up every word. There was tension and drama which was much needed, giving the overall story balance, and though the ending was predictable, it was also faultless, and exactly where these characters needed to end.

I am looking forward to more stories coming from the sweet small town, and if you're in the mood for a tale that will steal your heart, you've come to the right place.

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions are completely honest, and my own.

This is the second installment in Author Mindy Obenhaus's 'Bliss, Texas' series. I had the good fortune to read the first book, 'A Father's Promise', when it was released in 2020.

Rancher, Mick Ashford, has recently taken custody of his five-year-old niece, Sadie, after her parents were tragically killed in a plane crash. He is a loving and doting uncle and guardian to the precocious little girl, but he is struggling with the sudden change in his lifestyle. At age forty-five and never married, Mick is trying to get a handle on how to run his ranch and raise a grieving child on his own—without any experience. All the while he is deeply grieving the loss of his best friend and sister, Jennifer.

As with the first book in the series, I was struck by how sensitive and caring the leading male character and the supporting male characters were toward each other and members of their tight-knit community. They reached out to help each other whenever necessary. They were respectful and kind to women and children, also.

The female lead in the story, Christa Slocum, is a strong-willed business owner who is trying to make her own way in life after her previous serious relationship did not work out. She left the corporate world and came back home to Bliss to open her own hardware store. She has a special touch with little Sadie, and she helps Mick and the young girl navigate through their mutual grief to become happy, functioning members of society again.

I really like this author's writing style. Her pacing is excellent, and she infuses faith and ethical behavior into every scene. This is a sweet tale of faith, love, forgiveness, and healing. This book is completely clean in language and content.

Highly recommended to fans of Christian/clean romance, Christian/clean fiction, and Christian/clean Western romance.

I received a paperback copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours as a host in the book's blog tour. All opinions expressed are solely my own honest thoughts.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Mick Ashford immediately becomes a single dad when his sister and brother in law were killed in a tragic accident. Little Sadie was so very cute and my heart was full of sadness that she was without parents. I admire Mick for taking her in. They were adorable together. I loved watching him as he tries to fix up Sadie’s room, with the help of his neighbor Christa, who offered to help when she could see Mick needed help. The two being together during the room fixup created a lot of attraction and tension between the two. Good tension that is. Could Mick have a child and find a mother for Sadie as well? Being a loner he never thought this would happen to him. But it is.

I love Mindy Obenhaus books and I read them an chance I get. This us one of my favorite from her. I love the characters. And thr story is so sweet, despite the headache going on. I didn’t want this one to end. If you enjoy a sweet romance, this is a great one for you to read.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

A Brother’s Promise by Mindy Obenhaus, published by Love Inspired, takes us to Mick Ashford’s ranch in Bliss, Texas. He is given custody of his five year old niece following his sister’s unexpected death, but needs his neighbor’s help knowing how to help the little girl settle into his man cave of a home.

Little Sadie steals everyone’s hearts. Mick, Christa Slocum, and the reader’s (mine at least!). The story revolves not only about helping her adjust to her new home and the loss of her parents, but also navigating the custody agreement left behind.

Christa loves living in Bliss, but she could loose her hardware store if she doesn’t make a business adjustment. Sadie provides the perfect distraction while waiting on answers to those decisions. Mick is a handsome distraction, too, if she were honest with herself.

I loved reading about Sadie and how Mick and Christa worked together to help her. It’s such a precious story! Ironically, they also experience a cold snap similar to the one Texas felt in mid-February. I’m not usually a fan of older-character romances, but this one had a sweet feel and didn’t spend much time on jaded feelings and injured hearts that I loved it.

As you read A Brother’s Promise, be prepared for plenty of aww moments and a few tears. It was so good!

A Brother’s Promise is part of the Bliss, Texas series but was good as a stand-alone. I do not feel as though I missed anything by reading it as a stand-alone. The book was well written and the pacing was perfect. The characters had depth and were easy to connect with. The book drew me in from the beginning and I could not put it down until I finished. I loved seeing Mick, the loner cowboy, become wrapped around his niece Sadie’s fingertips. She was such an adorable little girl and full of personality.
Mick had promised his sister to take care of Sadie if something happened to her and her husband. So not only was he devastated by his sister’s death, but his life had been turned upside down trying to adjust to taking care of a young child. Christa was so supportive of Mick and kept reminding him to keep the faith. She bonded instantly with Sadie and was able to relate to her and her parent’s death. Christa helped Mick and Sadie with their grief and helped them grow to be a family of their own.
I enjoyed seeing Christa and Mick’s relationship slowly change from neighbors to more. Mick’s past relationships made him weary and he had doubts Christa would be interested in him but eventually he overcame his doubts. This was a new-to-me author and I found the book to be charming and easy to read. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

I have read several cowboy books by this author and I always enjoy them!

Mick is determined to help care and provide a loving home for his niece Sadie after the death of her parents-his sister. His friend Christa also steps in to help him care for the 5 year old when he discovers its hard running a ranch and taking care of a child as a single father. I loved how well the three of them worked together and settled into a good routine and friendship.

I liked reading about their ranch life and how hard Christa worked on a daily basis to help her friends and keep her hardware shop alive.

Great characters, small town, clean romance, sweet cowboy... what more could you want in a book? Absolutely loved it!

A Brother's Promise by Mindy Obenhaus
A little girl will change his world…
He didn’t realize he wanted a family…
until he suddenly became a single dad.
After his sister’s death, rancher Mick Ashford’s determined to ensure his orphaned niece, Sadie, feels at home. And accepting guidance from Christa Slocum is his first step. But just as Christa and Sadie start to settle into Mick’s heart, Sadie’s paternal grandparents sue for custody. Now Mick must fight to keep them together…or risk losing the makeshift family he’s come to love.
Christa Slocum had to expand her hardware store before Crane’s Building Supply infiltrated the area. And this might be the ticket.
This is Christa Slocum and Mick Ashford and his niece Sadie's story.
A cold rain fell outside as she stood near the paint counter Wednesday afternoon, contemplating the brick wall Bliss Hardware shared with the vacant building next door. Not even a gust of wintry January air someone ushered in could jar her from her thoughts.
Bliss Hardware was a fixture in the small Texas town and under her ownership, the once sleepy little business was now bursting at the seams. But if she could take out those bricks to create an opening, the two spaces would be joined, nearly doubling her space and allowing her to add the home improvement section people had been wanting.
Giddiness bubbled inside of her. This was the best option she’d come up with so far and it was so simple she wondered why she hadn’t thought of it before.
Eager to contact her real estate agent, she turned and nearly ran into Mick Ashford, local rancher and good ole country boy. Except he wasn’t a boy. He was a grown man, maybe a year or two older than Christa’s forty-three years, with gorgeous light green eyes and the kind of rugged good looks that had many of the town’s single women acting like fools whenever they were anywhere near the cowboy.
“What can I help you with, Mick?”
“I need a gallon of this.” He held out the paint swatch.
One glance and her brow shot up. “Mick Ashford, what could you possibly want with Pepto-Bismol-pink paint?”
“It’s not for me.” His tone was more serious than she was used to. “It’s for Sadie. I’m hoping it’ll make her feel more at home.”
I highly recommend reading.
A Brother's Promise by Mindy Obenhaus is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Mindy Obenhaus.

A tender friends-to-more inspirational romance that has all the feels.

Have to say that little Sadie stole the show for me -- especially the scenes with her very smitten Uncle Mickey. There's something so toe-curling about a rough and tumble cowboy caring for a small child. And even though Mick is way out of his element, he's willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that Sadie is safe and secure and loved.

And that just happens to include accepting Christa's help. Love the way their friendship deepens as they work on easing a grieving little girl into her new country life. So many sweet, heart-tugging scenes!

But it's not all unicorns and rainbows -- not with Mick's custody battle on the horizon. Cue the angst and some emotional nose-diving before we can settle into a happily ever after. Love a romance that keeps me on the edge until the very end!

Another sweet Bliss, Texas romance from Mindy Obenhaus!

A tragic accident leaves rancher Mick Ashford’s niece Sadie in his custody. Obviously, this requires some big adjustments, but he determines to make the best of it—and his neighbor Christa Slocum proves to be oh so helpful. He could easily get used to having both Sadie and Christa in his life, but of course, what would their story be without a challenge that threatens all they’ve done?

As Mick and Christa face the challenge set before them, I so loved getting to know them—and Sadie. The neighbors-to-friends-to-more relationship hooked me, and I could not help rooting for the makeshift family to overcome everything that stood in their way. All in all, A Brother’s Promise is a delight to read, and I recommend it to romance readers, for sure.

A Brother's Promise is the second book in the Bliss, Texas series by Mindy Obenhaus. I loved this book and the characters of Christa Slocum and Mick Ashford. We had seen Christa in the first book and I enjoyed reading her story in this one. Christa and Mick have been neighbors for a long time, but didn't really get to know one another until Mick becomes guardian of his five-year-old niece Sadie upon the death of her parents. When Mick walks into Christa's hardware store to select a Pepto-Bismol pink color for Sadie's room, Christa knows he will need help. She offers to decorate Sadie's room. In the process, she helps Sadie through the pain of her loss as Christa had also lost her mom at a young age. Christa and Mick find they have growing feelings for one another. They come from very different backgrounds and wonder how they can make it work. They soon find themselves working together to help Mick keep custody of Sadie when his in-laws contest the guardianship in court. The characters were most enjoyable and I look forward to the next book in the series.

A Brother's Promise by Mindy Obenhaus is a Love Inspired Harlequin romance story about something good coming from something bad. Mick Ashford's sister and brother-in-law were killed in a helicopter crash right after Christmas. They left their five year old daughter, Sadie, in his care. He takes her to Bliss to live with him and give her the best life he can. His neighbor, Christa Slocum, understands what Sadie is going through since her mother died when she was five and she was raised by her father. Mick is a local rancher and business owner Christa helps him out when he needs a baby sitter. Once Mick and Christa get a "taste" of what it feels like to be part of a family, things change. This was an enjoyable story. It has a few surprises and it has a lot of happy, feel good moments. I like when authors include pets in books and the dogs in this story made me smile.

I have enjoyed every book I've read by Mindy Obenhaus and this was no exception. In this book, Mick has just gotten custody of his five-year-old niece, Sadie, and he's somewhat at a loss as to how to deal with little girls. Mick's next-door neighbor, Christa, is more than happy to help and falls for both Sadie and Mick.

I liked how Christa relates to Sadie because they both lost a parent or parents at a young age. I also liked how Christa is an independent woman and able to handle things on her own. I enjoyed the supporting characters we meet in this story as well as the addition of Christa's dog to the story. At one point, Mick does something that drives Christa away and I liked watching Bum come to Mick's defense.

I loved the scene where Mick is trying to buy pink paint for Sadie's room because he thinks all little girls love pink but Christa teaches him that there is more to little girls than pink.

I enjoyed that these characters were both in their forties. I also enjoyed the small town of Bliss. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone story.

This love inspired inspirational romance from Author Mindy Obenhaus checks all the boxes. A cowboy and his horse, an adorable little girl, and a dog named Dixie all part of a story that will pull at your heart strings. Despite tragic circumstances Cowboy Mick Ashford wants his niece, Sadie, to feel at home but he will need his friend Christa Slocum and her dog, Dixie, to help make that happen. I enjoyed this wholesome romance filled with hope for a bright and happy future.

Mick Ashford is a strong, honest man, trying hard to be good "father" for his orphaned niece. His story is emotional and full of faith. I started cheering for him early in the story.
Unfortunately, Christa Slocum isn't the strongest heroine. The romantic "black moment" feels forced, but the story is still worth reading.

Sometimes we don’t realize what we need or want until we get it. Sometimes we don’t miss something until it is no longer ours. That is the case for rancher, Mick Ashford, when the bachelor becomes the guardian for his orphaned niece, Sadie. He wants to keep his promise to her folks to care for her. In over his head, he turns to his neighbor, Christa Slocum. Christa once had dreams for a love and family of her own, but time, and a bad romance, has her building her life around her business. This is a heartwarming story with a handsome cowboy, loving concerned neighbor, sweet little girl, and a dog. This is the second book in the series “a Bliss, Texas Book.” I can’t wait for the next installment!

Making some one cry when you are watching a movie is a lot easier than when someone is reading a book. There were several places in the book that I was brought to tears. Mindy Obenhaus did a great job being emotions alive in this book.

Lovely little girl

Mick is guardian for his sister’s daughter. Their sudden death puts Sadie in a tailspin. Enter neighbor and hardware store owner, and the rest is drama and love all the way through. I love that they kept God in the middle too.

A sweet little Christian romance. The author did a great job of interlacing the story with scripture. I can often feel as though it is pushed on you but this felt genuine and real. I really got wrapped up in the characters and invested in their story that I didn’t want to put the book down.

Such a sweet story. Losing family after the holidays, to becoming a father figure to a little girl. All while living the rancher life and fighting a custody battle. Mick finds love and family in the end. It had some drama and was predictable. Cute, quick read.

This was a sweet book, but the supposed main conflict was wrapped up super quick to the point it wasn't even that important to the story. Mick really was sweet, trying to do everything right for his niece. And Christa was understandable in her trust issues and single-minded focus.
