50 years of Pride in the words of those who changed the world. Half a century has passed since 2,000 people marched in the very first Pride march, in New York City. It was a moment when the LGBT+ community rose up against centuries of hatred and persecution, spawning a global movement and the Pride parades that now take place around the world. The Little Book of Pride is a collection of quotes that captures the voices of those who have played a key part in the long journey to a place of Pride – from the very first pioneers, to those who took the fight into the streets of the Stonewall riots, and right up to today's movers and shakers. 'Your lives matter. Your voices matter. Your stories matter.' Actress and trans activist Laverne Cox at the Goldern Globes Awards, 2016. 'If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door.' Tape recording left by Harvey Milk, the first openly gay US politician, murdered in 1978.
This is a great coffee table book! Full of great quotes, and small snippets of Queer history. While you won't find in an in depth historical telling, there is enough information and uplifting quotes packed in this little book to keep you entertained and educated. Its a great conversation starter and fun addition to your queer library! Pick it up, read it quickly, and leave it out for guests to see and read themselves!
It'd be 5 stars but for a book published in 2020 a J.K. Rowling quote alongside quotes from incredible transgender people is doing more harm than good.
Stella Caldwell (2020) THE LITTLE BOOK OF PRIDE: LGBTQ+ VOICES THAT CHANGED THE WORLD London. OH!

This little book is like a little powerhouse of LGBTQIA+ positivity. The quotations in it are quite varied and very interesting to read and see who said them. It’s not necessarily a book to read cover to cover (although I did - and if you do, it will take next to no time!), but one to dip into - especially if you’re having a rough day in this rough world and need a bit of enthusiasm and motivation.
There were are few quotes in there (particularly the one by JKR) which I questioned their places in the book, and a few times where quotes were assigned to someone who has since come out as trans (although this could have been printed before they came out, I don’t know) which just felt a bit off. But despite that, a very good, positive little gay book!
‘“...not many people have ever died of love. But multitudes have perished, and are perishing every hour - and in the oddest places! for the lack of it. “ From Giovanni's Room, James Baldwin's pioneering novel about same-sex love, 1956’ (The Little Book Of Pride, OH, 2020)
How great that such a small book can make you feel so much. I hope it is updated to remove dead naming issues, but otherwise, a good tribute to the vibrancy of humanity.
