Detective Sydney Lamppinen gazed out over an expansive field of open graves in a place known as Pine Stump Junction in the untamed wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She wonders with tear-stained eyes if her own mother is interred in one of those vulgar pits.

A peculiar old camera and even stranger circumstances have transported her to this collection of the dead. A camera that has begun providing the detective with clues to mysterious disappearances spanning decades in the picturesque setting of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The camera has also brought into question the guilt of men convicted of murdering their wives by pushing them over the sandstone cliffs. Nothing is as it has seemed.

Colby Patino is a levelheaded man. A sensible man. But also, an empathetic man with deep ties to the State Police detective. As the sheriff of Luce county Colby has no choice but to follow Sydney down a path filled with personal demons and resurrected ghosts.
