The battle may be over, but the worst is yet to come. Torn between her growing attachment to an alien race and her new commitment to the Prime Directive, Seven of Nine must choose between altering the course of an entire society and her place aboard Voyager in the conclusion to this story set during Voyager’s amazing fourth season from writer Dave Baker (Action Hospital, F*ck Off Squad, Star Trek: Waypoint) and artist Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Picard Countdown, Star Trek/Green Lantern).
Everything has come to a head and the final chapter unfolds.
Sevens journey comes to a close and she must face the consequences of her actions. Through her time spent with the Vesh, she has had to face what it means to be an individual as well as part of a collective and what it all really means. She has struggled with her past and her present as well and what it means to her to be human.
Personally I think this would have been a great character centric episode to have had for the show itself but I am glad it got a space here because it is a fantastic story and the culture of this new alien race that treats everything in life as a narrative and a story is both an interesting premise/approach and is deftly handled by Baker and as a reader, it is interesting to overlay some of that on stories in general - not just this one.
A great entry into the Star Trek story library and one I would 100% recommend to anyone who is a fan of Star Trek and of Voyager.
.......ends here. However, I really liked the non 'cliched' ending. Definitely give this series five *****'s! Thanks to the author(s?) for creating it! LLAP!
Quick thoughts on the entire story: Interesting overtones of "Star Trek Insurrection" with the whole "we're using these aliens to keep ourselves young", and an interesting means of having Seven come to terms with leaving the Borg Collective.
