This book was only very average in my opinion. First of all the whole ROI(Return on influence) name made me cringe a little bit.
Not only did I find the name not particularly appealing, it really bothered me throughout the book that every time the author refers to ROI she had to write between brackets that it was « Return on influence » and not « Return on investment » she was referring to since the abreviation is already well known and used.
Beyond that, I did really appreciate her point that stories are how one can elevate their message, somehow lately I actually come across a lot of content that is all about the value of using stories in your communication. That being said, I find the book might as well have been a brochure for the coaching/consultant business she has to recruit new clients.
When I pick up a book, I want to really get an actual 360 degrees coverage of what it’s talking about, not just a scratch the surface with no depth in the matter.
Ultimately the book was just a bunch of little stories about people who used stories to elevate their message. That’s all there is in that book.
Really the only reason I gave more than one star is that I do appreciate what message she is trying to give in her book and from hearing her speak in a conversation online I do think the author has most probably great leadership skills but in all honesty, if she is to write books that are so limited in covering the subject she wants to talk about, she should just leave writing to author who actually write books to go in depth, not to recruit client. Make a brochure for that purpose. Ultimately a book that would have been complete would still be able to get her clients.
