To prevent the next great war between the gods and supernaturals, Ava had one job. To keep her sons far, far away from Aradia.
Then why are they sitting next to her, enjoying their own Italian getaway?
Back home, they're Josh and Jacob, two average college freshmen with a propensity for pranks. In Ava's world, they are the She-Wolf's twins, feared and fated to rise—or fell—great empires.
Nonna swears it's fine. They’re safest here on Aradia. That's why she invited them to celebrate their eighteenth birthday with their mother.
But it doesn't feel fine. Suddenly, the sleeping god's voice is getting stronger, whispering in the shadows and speaking in dreams. And there are many who are listening.
Ava has finally begun to master her powers, and for the first time, she feels strong enough to protect her sons—from the Council, from evil mages, and even from the gods themselves.
Unlike her namesake of medieval infamy, Heloise doesn’t intend to have her midlife crisis in a nunnery. She’d rather drink 🍸 and chant in 🧚🏼♀️ rings. Born with Mississippi mud in her veins, grown "Via Chicago." Written before coffee.
I keep waiting for this series to start being the fun one I've read about it reviews, but I'm at the 3rd book and nothing happened (not what I wanted at least).
So, no more. I give up.
I'll stop with the series. It became annoying, especially the MC. Not sure exactly what happened, but suddenly, she is annoying and I don't like her anymore. Plus, the action feels a bit stretched, so eh.
Do I recommend the series? Definitely the first book, but if you didn't like that one, no point in continuing, it doesn't get better.
This is the third book in the series and it is a doozy! Poor Ava has yet again found herself in a huge mess and I won’t tell y’all anything else! No spoilers here, folks! I will say, the topics are well researched, dramatic and twisted darkness. Find a comfortable spot, settle in and join in the journey.
While it seems silly to some. Books that are in a series like this I tend to wait until the end to review them. I want to give the story in it's entirety it's justice and the attention it deserves.
This series is amazing, I really can't say it enough. I came upon it by chance, and reading the synopsis made look at it and go hrmmm really. As I began reading the protagonist even though she and I are different sexes I felt a kinship toward. Hitting midlife myself and experiencing some of the same things she was going through in life made me become even more attached. Showing up on the shores of Aradia I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought perhaps nonna was a tad batty. However I felt the old world charm that the main character felt through the authors writing.
I refuse to give spoilers to this series, as I will take this review back and copy it over the other books. I will say the author paints a vivid picture not only of character interaction, but also scenery. She does an amazing job of world building that blends with the current world we know that makes the tale seamless. The only, and I do mean only critique I have for this series is it's classification as Women's fiction. While there is a strong female lead character, which I was very happy to read about. I think the classification would turn away potential readers who would otherwise find this series as amazing as I did.
I started reading this book but the author recommended that a short story #2.5 in the series be read first in order to get more from this book. So, I clicked on the link to get the short story. I had to sign up for a newsletter, then check my email, then click a link in the email, then click another link to download the ebook when I got to the website, then load it to my reader of choice which is usually KU but since I couldn't get it to load in that, I had to load it in my Books app on my Mac. I did faithfully start reading it, but DNF at the halfway point since it made me grouchy. Not one mention of Ava. The spice was minimal at most, and there was nothing fun or funny or thrilling. I didn't relate to the MC in the least. Not only that but when I read on the website that this book series is at least a FIVE book series with the 5th not coming out til June 2025, I lost interest altogether. Needless to say, I have no desire now to finish this book. Perhaps once the series is complete, and I've depleted my desire to read about paranormal fated mates with a lot of spice, I will come back to this series. It's not poorly written in any sense. Just not my cup of tea.
Right off the bat, four stars is very generous. At time I wasn’t sure where the author was going with this story or why she chose to spend time with certain characters and/or introduce new ones. It’s like watching a 90s RV show where the main characters only interact with the neighbor because they need advice but we still don’t know if this neighbor has kids or how long they’ve been friends or why they never appear at any of the parties or gatherings that take place in the main characters home. Will I read the final book in this series? Yes, simply because I think the draw for me is the author’s twist on reinterpreting myths and historical figures to fit this supernatural narrative.
Is there an entertaining paranormal women’s fiction series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Ava was divorced mother of two twins. She caught her husband in bed with her assistant. Found out her husband and his business was in hook up to his debt and had no money. Luckily she had a small amount set aside from her paychecks and took a trip to Italy to get away and figure out her life. The great number of strange and magical things began happening she realized her life was not what it was and it was very much more. If you read the first two then you know this one is more and continue on. She’s trying to save her friends save her twins and basically save the world. Read on and follow the adventure.
I really really enjoyed this series. I read books after books but I don’t often write reviews. But this one deserves it. Her flow was seamless and fully visual. I don’t even imagine what I would feel in book situations but I was there feeling her. I was with her the entire way. I’m in the middle of a training class and every moment there is a lull I am reading.
Quirky characters, interesting use of history & mythology
As in Book 2, Ava is beset by questions, challenges, surprises, and shocks. Her loyal friends help her until her original identity is revealed. Tiberious, her brave and talented loyal chipmunk, guides her into the realm between earth and the afterlife, where the challenges and surprises continue. The ending is a cliffhanger. I sure hope Book 4 is already published.
I love this series! Rita Hayworth is a fascinating character, growing in leaps and bounds as she discovers herself, and her strength and power. I love how, by the time we get to this book, the stories are beginning to come together. I really can’t wait for the next book.
Ava can’t get a break, Thoth is the epitome of the evil, vengeful ex boyfriend who won’t go the f*ck away. I just can’t imagine the ha I know she’d go through with Aurick being so hands off because of the crazy magical order. They are as ineffective as an entity because they are so corrupt. I will have to wait to see what is next.
This third installment of the series is my least favorite. It involves a lot of soul searching, and not much enjoyment. There is a lot of strife and hurdles to climb as she tries to find herself. Her friends are now afraid of her. I have lost interest.I don’t think I’ll continue to read the rest.
What a fun read. I plowed through the first three books and will download the fourth after posting this review. The action and the twists kept me awake just to find out and yet again we are almost there and no ooo ooo will Ava succeed? Is she stuck? her boys are they going to destroy each other?
These books make me want to visit Italy. I love the author's descriptions of the landscape and the food.
In this third installment, Ava faces Thoth and uncovers more about her identity. This books ends on cliffhanger, but the fourth and final installment is available on KU. I do want to see how this ends and if Ava is able to break the curse that has followed her through many lives.
As usual another great addition to the series Easy reading and once you start you don't want to stop This story was more complex and we gained a lot of incite to Ava and her past lives Anxious to read book 4
Mythology or history? Women have always been underestimated and most of the time we underestimate ourselves. I’m excited to discover how Ava will surprise herself in the next book. She is indeed a goddess.
I loved the characters but was a little put off by the self pity, although it could have been exactly how a mom would feel. The historical information was great. It got a little repetitive but not so bad.
Some seriously strong motivaion to finish what she started, after figuring out who and what she was. I cannot wait to see what happens next! What a way to end the book!
You want something that is hard to put down? This is it! Even though I have no knowledge on Greek mythology I have found this so interesting, exciting and fun that I can't seem to get enough and want more!
This book became difficult to read because of it’s intensity and detail regarding the Greek gods. The reader has to process their knowledge of those gods to even begin to understand parts of the book. A challenging read to be sure.
I really enjoyed the story but going make needing to look up a lot of words so I could understand or better picture what I was reading as my masters is not in mythology. I did enjoy learning more about it though.
Fun, with, with just enough mythology history to keep things interesting. great quick reads that weave a classic "coming of age" story and make you want to know what happens next in the chaos!
Another marvellous episode in Ava's story, with so many questions answered. But will it be enough, to answer those questions? The history is, as always, impeccably researched (even if there are some errors in the written Italian). I am a huge fan and can't wait to see what happens next!
Wow, reading Making Midlife Mistakes is like riding a rollercoaster! What will Ava do next ? As Ava's magic develops, she learns more about her past lives and is determined to change her future.
Love for kids, true friendship, partners, and more? Do you like interesting, unpredictable plots? What about battles between right and wrong? How about connections to mythology, the Gods, past battles? Read this series!
Can't put the books down. I'm going to sad when the last one ends. I feel like this family has become part of mine. You must read these. Great Author I hope there is more to come.
I wasn't sure I would like this book, but I couldn't put it down. Some of the names were familiar, I read a little bit of mythology when I was in high school. Now I can't wait for the next one!
I slogged through this book hoping to get excited or interested at some point. I was not excited or interested. I won't be finishing the series. Sadly, it won't matter.
