On the heels of a deadly fight with the Vultures, Hope’s Dawn is reeling. Several people remain in critical condition from the battle, and Hope’s Dawn is running low on basic first-aid supplies to care for them.
As Jon struggles to find his place in the camp, he now must leave with Brooke and Terrence and head out into a dying world occupied by zombies to find the supplies they need before more innocent people needlessly die.
Following an encounter with another band of survivors out in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, Jon and the others learn of a nearby prison which may contain the key to Hope’s Dawn’s survival.
But they also find out that the fight with the Vultures might have only been the beginning of a war…
Dead Lies in the second book in the bestselling zombie apocalypse series, Dead South, written by Zach Bohannon.
Zach Bohannon is a horror and science fiction author. His books include the Amazon #1 bestsellers, Dead South, and Empty Bodies. He loves heavy metal, video games, hockey, reading, and he doesn’t trust a beer he can see through. He’s a retired drummer, and has had a beard since 2003—long before it was cool. He lives in Tennessee.
It's been a bit since the first Dead South book. Not that long by traditional standards, but for a writing machine like Mr. Bohannon it certainly felt longer and I couldn't have been happier to return to his post apocalyptic visions. The second story of Jon South takes place right where the first left off. Jon's solved his problem only to realize their is a much larger scope of consequences to his actions. We get to peak at these consequences with the emergence of new villains, the soon-to-be notches on South's trusty baseball bat. The story is quick to set up the stakes, as both sides prepare for war.
The best part about this particular book is the ending, which of course I won't spoil, but I had no idea it was coming and it left me thinking well just what exactly is the master plan here? I'm now even more eager to read the next book.
The original elevator pitch of The Punisher meets The Walking Dead still compels.
If you are looking for, or are into tension filled pages of battles with zombies or worse, with other survivors then this is for you. Jon is a damaged hero who tries his best. Sometimes the best just doesn’t work. The cliffhanger ending is worthy of all that came before.
Jon and the other survivors are not out of the woods yet. The meeting of the other survivors and a plan to get into the prison was fantastic. After reading alot of zombie apocalypse thrillers I hope that the sacrifice was worth it.
Loners need to be social at times too. Jon meets new people and has to decide if they will be friends or foe. The twist at the end was very surprising and I can't wait to read book three and see how it plays out...
I enjoyed this book more than the first one. Character development was great and had a few more twists and turns. Warning it does end on a cliff hanger - interested to see what happens in book 3
