What an amazing surprise!
The book has three parts, and each part is written from two characters' POV: first book, Madison and Ky, second book Bailey and Nate, third book Madison and Nate and each one of the books is interesting, but you get the whole picture and how the characters relate to each other only after you read almost half of the second part and also then you understand that some things are not what they seem to be.

This story goes like this-first part-: Ky has a lot of guilt in his heart, and he is working with a detective to bring down Nate, the drug 'boss' that sold his brother some stuff that killed him. He meets Madison, a girl who was abandoned by her parents when she was little and now has a lot of triggers, but as they spend a lot of time together, they develop a beautiful friendship and finally, something more, and that love makes Ky want to back down from the deal with the police and to want to make amends, realizing that Nate is dangerous for him and for Madison.

The second part is set in the past and it is a beautiful love story between Nate and Bailey. He saved her and because the leader of the gang wanted her death, Nate kept her safe for a while, and they both fell in love. But because Bailey is starting to fade away, Nate understands that sometimes, the greatest sacrifice you can make for the one you love is to let them go.

The third part summarizes the actions from the first part, told from Nate and Madison's POV and what happened next with the characters. We have a lot of twists and turns and I must say, this author writes amazingly! I wondered how will this end and the epilogue was a beautiful surprise!

This is a big book but it's hard to put down!

Wow! I just couldn’t stop reading. It’s 1.45am and my god what a rollercoaster this has been. Of emotions and of story line. Jeeez man this is an intense trilogy that I highly highly recommend. If you’ve been following my updates you’ll see just how invested I got. I’m happy with the end, so so happy. And the twists and turn, gah epic! Many emotions have been brought out of me reading this. But my god the characters and their development. Bailey is an inspiration and Nate, Nate is a sweetheart that I just wanna give a big bear hug too. You will not be disappointed reading this! How did people manage to read this as each book came out and deal with the cliffys.

“Regardless of how destroyed we all are, how damaged our actions have left us… our world fell apart right in front of our eyes, crumbled to ashes, and yet we stand.

5 stars!

The Combative series is a continuous story, told across multiple timelines and from different characters' perspectives, written in a way that delivers a unique, gritty, angsty, dramatic, complex and gorgeously romantic read.

For me, it was a bit of a slow beginning, but once the story picked up I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.  Though there were times where I had to put my kindle down, literally too scared to go on, not ready for the emotional slaughter that I sensed was coming, and OMG, the feels! I read parts of these books with tears streaming down my face – happy tears, sad tears, angry tears and healing tears. I felt everything along with the characters, and it was such an amazing ride.

I watch her sleep in my arms and hope that one day, she’ll stand tall, find peace, and love freely amid the destruction around her.

McLean keeps you guessing, never sure where the story is going or what to expect. She throws in some huge curveballs and adds whole new dimensions to the series which is really clever. And while it’s tumultuous at the time, looking back, the story played out exactly how it had to. It hurt when I was in the middle of it, but it’s right for the characters and their journeys, and I was completely satisfied with how it all ended up.

“Anywhere in the world … Where do you want to go?”
Sad, solemn eyes search mine. “You.”
My brow dips. “But... I’m not a place.”
His mouth lowers, settles on mine. He kisses me once. Just once. “You are to me.”

With fantastic characters, wonderful character development, and a story that kept me captivated, this is an emotionally intense story of family, friendship, love, pain, suffering and redemption, and a romance that completely owned my heart. I loved this series so much.

5 huge stars!

Each book in this trilogy kept me on edge with the ups and downs of what’s around the corner and what’s going to happen next, usually I’m good at predicting but at points these books had me oblivious as to what’s about to come but when I found out my answer I was like omg! The fact that all three are now in a boxset is epic so you don’t have to wait and see anymore

𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: Combative Trilogy
𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Combative #1, Combative #2 & Combative #3
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: Jay McLean
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5

The book starts off with Madison and Kyler, they have been through a lot in their lives already and are getting to know each other. Once we get to know them it is time to go back in time and learn more about Nate and Bailey. Have some tissues ready because this is such an emotional part. Once we go back to present time the action is so on again. The fates and lives of these people might be more intertwined than they thought…. Throughout the book there are many surprises, twists and turns and the mystery is amazing. It is one of those books that you want to keep reading to see what happens next. I absolutely loved these series, there is so much love and pain and sacrifice from all the characters. Moreover, all the side characters are amazing as well (e.g. Tiny and Ashton). They are super lovable and a real amazing addition to the story. Overall, this trilogy is a MUST read… especially if you are into mafia romances!

My thoughts on this book are this: This is one book you do not want to miss. It completely engulfed me, blew my mind, obliterated my soul. There is raw emotion among the pages of this amazingly written collection. The characters become a part of you and you feel every pain filled moment, every bit of hope, of anger. The ride, is a wild roller coaster for sure! Angst, twists, passion and more, lie in wait for the readers with this book.⁣

I read the first book and enjoyed it, but not enough to read the next two books in the series. I'm unsure if the writer's style doesn't mesh with me because I felt the same way during my last trilogy with her. Regardless, the plot is awesome, but I just couldn't connect with the characters enough to continue for now.

WOW, WHAT A RIDE! I feel like I've just gotten off of a roller coaster and my stomach is still in knots.

When I started reading the Combative trilogy by Jay McLean, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This story is addictive. It is all-consuming. It is one of the most intricately-woven stories that I've ever read, and I couldn't get enough. This trilogy has a much different feel than what I've read from this author before. This story is a bit darker, mysterious and suspenseful, and the first two books will leave you with more questions than answers.

In book one, Combative, Ky and Madison begin a relationship just as Ky has gotten himself into what could become a very dangerous situation. They were both dealt some pretty bad hands in the past and have a lot to overcome, but they quickly find a comfort in each other. Both Ky and Madison are keeping secrets from each other though (Madison more so than Ky), and it gives a you bad feeling throughout much of this book that things are just going too good for them. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and the ending? Well, it definitely dropped!

Going into book two, Redemptive, I had so many questions and was hoping for most of the answers, but once again, I was left with SO MANY QUESTIONS! Redemptive left my mind racing, but with Nate and Bailey's story, it was my heart -- my poor heart -- that took a beating.

Going into the third book, Destructive, I had no idea how this story could possibly have a HEA ending. I just couldn't see any way that it could happen. I knew that my heart was going to break, and it did break, over and over again. I had so many emotions while reading the conclusion to Bailey and Nate's story. They both go through so much, and there were so many curveballs thrown into their relationship. I felt actual anxiety while reading this book and I cried so many tears, but by the very last page, I was so pleased with the way that their story unfolded.

Jay McLean has quickly become one of my favorite Authors, but for me, this story proves her true talent as a writer. The way that this trilogy is presented, from the future to the past and then back again, leaves so many questions and surprises. The story takes twists and turns that you don't see coming and the way that these characters' lives and storylines are woven together is just absolutely brilliant. This story and ALL of these characters are ones that I will remember. My only wish is that this story could have gone on a little longer, because I truly don't want to let them go.

Would I read again? Yes, when I’m in a mood to cry
Would I read future books from this author? Definitely
Gahhh! This is a must read and I desperately need more of Nate & Bailey.

Jay McLean is an emotional writer; I know that and I have completely ignored that. Every time I read a book from this author I cry and not the nice sniff sniff cry, the one where you cry and beg the Lord to make it stop yeah that kind of cry.
Kyler Parker aka ky or Parker is one of those guys where you understand and relate to the way he thinks and does things. I think this is the reason why I liked him so much. I felt like he needed his own book after this trilogy ended because of the way things ended with him and Madison. I wanted to see his journey and growth after combative.
“Her chest rises when mine falls.
She exhales.
I inhale.
She takes.
I give.
She pushed out a breath.
I pull one in.
So here we are – taking each other’s breaths away.”

Madison aka Bailey is one of those heroines for whom you instantly fall for and I liked being in her head most of the time. Her journey wasn’t easy and the people that needed to be there for her wasn’t so I understood the way she held on to her secrets but what I didn’t expect was the big reason why she held back that much.

Nate Deluca was a hard one to connect with at the beginning and trust me, you probably won’t like the guy at first, but when you start being in his head you understand him way better and you fall for him very hard. The guy's perfect, and all you want to do is fix everything for him.
“I didn’t really have a reason to smile until you came along. You make me forget what my life is and who I’m supposed to be. You make me happy, Bailey.”
I smiled against the pillow when I heard Nate say my name, and it grew the second I felt his lips on my bare shoulder. “You need to wake up, baby. It’s time for your meds.”
I wished more than anything in the world, that this wasn’t our life. That we were able to be out there, loving each other freely and honestly, because I’d give up the world if I could’ve met her as her and have her fall in love with me for me.

This guy is pure perfection and the minute I started getting into his POV he owned me completely. The love he and bailey had for each other was out this world, you felt it.

This is an amazing trilogy which is an emotional roller coaster as well as having twists, secrets, angst, suspense, and love. This talented author has done a fantastic job in weaving this tale. The box set consist of the following: -
#1 Combative
This is the first in a new trilogy and what a beginning this story is. Kyler has had a tough life and has just returned home from his tour in Afghanistan when he is involved in a bar fight where he ends up in jail. Jackson is his cop brother, and he offers him a deal to get into underground fighting where he can unleash his anger and pain, to bring down the villain in the case he is investigating. Kyler is in love at first sight with his new neighbour Madison, but she is keeping secrets and makes no bones about it. Madison is an enigma, but who is she really? This is a well written flawless story which is heartwrenching, raw, gritty, and filled with intrigue, twists, secrets, suspense, mystery, and with a dark and unpredictable plot.
#2 Redemptive
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and let me just say that this story did not go in the direction I throughout it would. This tale gives a background into Bailey and Nate’s lives, and the circumstances around their relationship, and their love is tangible. I did not like Nate very much in the 1st book, but the man certainly redeemed himself in this story. This is a well written story which is fast paced, emotional, dark, complex, heartwrenching, intense, intriguing, and I was left with so many questions that I need answers to.
#3 Destructive
This is the 3rd and conclusion of this awesome series, and this series needs to be read in order as it is not a standalone. I loved Nate and Bailey, and in this story all questions are answered. This is a beautifully weaved tale which is intense, action packed, and is dark, raw, gritty, twisted, heartbreaking, with angst, betrayals, redemption, secrets, and love. I was completely captivated throughout this riveting and addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this gifted author whose work I highly recommend for all readers. In my opinion this is this author’s best work to date as it is a fantastic masterpiece!!

Kyler has seen and done a lot in his life. Being in the military really helped him, but now he has PTSD and he's struggling. When he gets into a fight and gets arrested he doesn't realize his life is about to change. His brother makes him a deal go undercover and stay out of jail, or go to jail and lose his life. He decides to help and what better way to help his anger than get into the ring. But this may be more than he bargained for. Finding those behind the drugs and bad things might take more of a toll than the military. I did like Kyler, but sometimes the story felt a little slower than I thought it would. Madison is this beautiful and shy soul that makes you want to be friends with her instantly. These two become friends and want to protect each other. Madison has a past she doesn't want to talk about, but Ky is so protective of her. Find out if Ky can find out who is responsible for all the bad stuff happening and if he and Madison can have a future. As we go into books two and three of this trilogy things just get so much more intense. They continue on this journey of Madison's past and how Ky is undercover trying to get out his rage and find out the truth in order to help his friend Nate. Nate wow he's beautiful himself and I feel like you will get to understand him more. These books will blow you away and you won't be able to put them down. Jay McLean really knows how to write suspense because this one just keeps you on your toes and wanting more.

I have questions! So many questions! But that is a good thing. Normally since I'm an avid reader, I can guess here and there what will happen next in a book. Not here! And that is what makes this story sooooooo refreshing. Madison is awkward and intriguing. For the first part of the book I didn't know what to make of her. There are a lot of secrets that she keeps under lock and key. But one thing that is undeniable, is that she deeply cares about Ky. And don't get me started on Ky. Ok I will... he is direct and flirtatious. But the best part is that he is like a giant teddy bear. It's about the small gesture with him. The ones that will have you feeling tender in the heart. He cares, he worries, he loves, he protects. In 2 words, he is ALL IN.

And while their story slowly unravels with other issues keeping their guards up, it's no less romantic. It's simple. Their needs are simple. Just an existence with the other. Not to say that it's easy. But not to worry, answers are coming and they will reach that goal.

These books reminded me of my early days of reading - complex characters, twists and turns that I am not expecting and the healing...oh goodness - these two characters are there for each other and they are helping each other heal - but there's an underlying secret and I think I know what's going on but I won't know until I jump into book 2.

I have read one or two Jay McLean books and I enjoyed them and with the assistance of my blog partner, I jumped into this series blind.  I am loving it and I can't stop reading!

Book two - Redemptive - was all that I wanted - getting the back story of Bailey and Nate was perfection.  I don't want to say much about the plot as I believe this series needs to be read blind - just jump in and enjoy the ride.

Book three - Destructive - the conclusion to this amazingly twisted story is one that will stick with you forever - again - just trust Jay McLean's brilliance and storytelling abilities and enjoy every second of it.

✨COMBATIVE TRILOGY REVIEW✨

Book boyfriend list, meet Nate DeLuca.

Combative trilogy is by @jaymcleanauthor and contains: Combative, Redemptive and Destructive. The books aren’t too long making the entire read just under 600 pages.

The story follows Kyler Parker, ex-soldier fresh out the military and already in trouble for fighting. His childhood friend now cop makes him a deal - he won’t get charged with attempted murder as long as he’s goes undercover and befriends drug lord Nate DeLuca to expose him. In the midst of this deal, Kyler meets nervous and timid Madison who lives across the hall. Book 2 goes into the relationship of Nate and Bailey. Nate took over the family business(mafia/drug lord type of stuff) when his dad passed. Bailey finds herself in a scary situation which puts her in the hands (sexy hands might I add) of Nate Deluca’s. And book 3 brings it all together!

This trilogy! A roller coaster! More of a dark romance than I expected and I loved it. This review isn’t easy to write as I don’t want to spoil it. Kyler and Madison are too sweet. He puts her fears at ease and wants nothing more than to take care of her and Madison helps him fight the demons of his past.

Now Nate and Bailey - don’t get me startedddddd! Ugh 🔥🔥🔥 their relationship is a little bit of a slow burn but in the best way. Jay paints Nate so sexy and the perfect bad boy with a huge heart. And Tiny, his right hand man is the sweetest. So loyal, loved him!

Book 3, Destructive brought the story together and leaves you baffled. Some of the ending was not expected but an HEA all the same 🥰

I’m not typically into love triangles but this one had me 🥵

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Wow...
Really what a wow this is, was, will always be

I just finished reading this and I'm so emotional right now 😢

This trilogy took me on a trip. The love started out somewhat slow and sweet in the first book, then came the harsh reality that life can f*ck you over tenfold and that its far from perfect in the second book, and the last book, that one's a rollercoaster within a rollercoaster.
The love and the hurt and the love and the sacrifice and the LOVE in this story is just so real. Its the kind of all consuming love that most percieved broken people crave. Its the most perfect in all its imperfection...

P.S. this is not a sappy love story, far from it

Thank you Dawn and Jay Mclean for choosing me as winner to recieve this trilogy 😁🤗

Wrong Love

The writing is as good as I have come to expect from Jay which is nothing short of amazing. The story is full of love and passion. So romantic. But if I'm really honest I just didn't like Nate. I wanted to. I did. His life was tragic for sure but I just couldn't get past... well.... everything. So as much as I loved the premise of the story, I just couldn't love this one character, and I couldn't get past the love interest didn't go how I wanted. I'm probably just needy. I can't stress enough this is not reflective of the writing.

I know a lot of people see things differently so you should go in to this story with a completely open mind. Maybe you'll see things differently and we can have a good discussion about it.

Loved it!

Couldn't put down this trilogy! Book one had me thinking I knew the story. Madison was a very young minded woman who was just learning about life with Kyler. Kyler was just a guy trying to do right by his family and find his purpose in life. Until life threw them the biggest curve ball ever.

Book two is a flip the switch on everything you thought you knew. You learn to love Bailey and Nate and root for them but also wonder how to explain book one.

Book three is a total mind blow because you don't know who you're rooting for or what outcome would be best. I enjoyed reading this whole series

I am so happy to see this come together in a boxset edition. This trilogy left me breathless, heartbroken and it it definitely did not go where I thought it would. Each book focuses on a different character and the whole way through I was on the edge of my seat trying to work out how these characters were interconnected and what led them down each of their chosen paths.
Noah was the guy I wanted to hate, but you knew there were redeeming qualities there and he just needed to be be unraveled. This was an amazing boxset, and I would highly recommend.

They say home is where the heart is and that true love never dies. I think Jay gave the perfect home to Bailey and Nate:) I love this trilogy so much. Yes it has some tough content but that leads to redemption and rebirth.

It’s inspiring how selfless Bailey & Nate are towards each other. The love they have for each other is so deep & the lengths they go to save each other is incredible. I love that their love leads them to their destiny🥰

Not sure what to say

If I had just bought the first book I would not have read the second one. But since I bought the trilogy I figured I would keep going. I give books 1 & 2 2-3 stars. They were just so slow to me, I found myself skimming. The last book was redeeming but overall i just felt it was drawn out.

Excellent read

Really enjoyed this even though some violence and difficult themes. But the story had substance and authenticity. It’s not how love typically starts but it was an amazing and enduring love between Bailey and Nate. There were lots of twists and turns so buckle up. Give it a read, you won’t be disappointed.
