Morgann Right has a problem. Her Commanding Officer—cool, calm, always in control Osborn Welty—has been drugged with Stasis, turning him into a living, breathing statue she's forced to take care of for ten long days. As her hands smooth down soft skin over rock hard muscles, she suddenly sees her CO in a totally different light. She wants him and, while she can tell he wants her, touching him intimately just might come back to haunt them both when the Stasis drug wears off...

About the author

Leigh Wyndfield

32 books28 followers
Leigh Wyndfield lives in rural Virginia with her fat cat named Ayra, two lovable rescue puppies, six chickens, and the best guy in the world. A city girl at heart, she’s embracing the mysteries of growing blueberries and waking up to bunnies running from foxes in her front yard. Traveling and working a day job round out her time – oh and running for exercise (a slow, painful process she’s been told is good for her, although that’s hard to believe since it never once has been fun). She writes romance fiction that is out of this world.

Wyndfield really builds the erotic tension in this one. Oz and Morgann are CO and his second in command for a military unit on a far away planet. They have developed a strong working relationship and and personal feelings have been kept under lock and key until the fateful day Oz saves Morgann's life and the consequences are a stasis where his body is frozen but his mind is not until the antidote is available. Morgann finds she has to care for Oz and run the team, and it is a lot. Wyndfield always allows both her male and female leads to have strengths and weaknesses and I like that about her stories. Power shifts back and forth. The shifts in this story are dramatic, and whew were they hot.

Not gonna lie. There were two reasons why I picked up this book:

1) The intriguing blurb

2) The fact it was a Kindle freebie

I have this thing with cheesy book covers—I don't like 'em. The huge, super ripped, bare-chested dudes simply don't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, I like abs. I like a nice Adonis belt. But I prefer the slender, lean muscly physique, not the ultra buff, crazy jacked guys. So, every time I see a Schwarzenegger type man on a book cover, my brain automatically goes 'nope!'.

But this once, I was browsing a website of free Kindle books that just so happened to only show descriptions but not covers. And the blurb sounded exactly like the type of AU fanfiction I like to dabble in from time to time. So in a YOLO type moment, I decided, why the heck not and clicked that beautiful, cursed little "buy now with 1-click" button.

Honestly, this book highly exceeded my expectations (because I can be a superficial a-hole sometimes who can't help but judge books by their covers).

It was very well written and paced, both main characters were nicely fleshed out and developed (for such a short book), and the plot was entertaining with some fun naughty moments. Color me satisfied. I can definitely see myself seeking out more of Leigh Wyndfield's work when the mood strikes. Science fiction is typically not my jam, but I think The Heat series might be the perfect fit for me!

This novella was originally titled "Statis" - a short story found in the anthology Secrets, Vol 20: Surrender to Pleasure (ISBN: 9781603100007). Not sure if it was expanded/enhanced or just retitled but this needed to be pointed out if you're ever read the anthology.

I love, love, love this series so much!

Wow, when I started reading this series I wasn't sure if I would love it but after the first book it has become one one of my all time favorite series and I can't wait to read this author's other books!

Interesting and amusing!! Great read!

An interesting read. Action from the get go. I had to chuckle at what happens to the CO and how no one else but his SecCom will take care of him.
Worth reading. Is a little confusing reading it out of order.

Unexpected and good!

First time with this author and what a great story to hook me! Very aptly named and an intriguing take on build up between the two main characters on their way to the HEA. Heading for the others in the series!

Sweet love story

First book in this series that when it ended it felt like a true HEA. Well written as usual. Entertaining and lots of "hot" romance.
Reading this series via Kindle Unlimited. Consider it well worth my time & $$

Delightful!!!!!

Still Heat is a fast engaging read. Delightfully different story of romance, steam, adventure, action, military hierarchy, strategy, and love.

A sexy romance about a guy who can’t move and then gets hyper aggressive and then goes on a military mission in space to blow up an out post and then gives it all up for love?
Uhhh ok 🤷🏼‍♀️ I liked it. But thank god it was short. There wasn't a whole lot of substance to this book, and had it been any longer I definitely would not have been able to finish.

Good read

This was not what I expected but still a good read. Character building was good. Short story, it only took me about an hour or so to read.

Highly recommend Leigh Wyndfield’s Heat series, short spicy stories (100-200pgs). Though would love any of the many concepts to be developed and expanded into a series, each is its own stand alone concept.

What is consistent is the electricity of that will jump off the page. They are aptly named … “Heat”.

One of L.W.’s stand outs in the Heat series. 5 stars.

Again had this on my the list for way to long since it was “just a freebie” but man was it hot when I finally convinced myself to pick it up
