As a practicing witch since her early teens like all the women in her family, she sees it as her duty to help the eclectic residents of her small town. Ghosts, vampires, and shifters are part of her every day life, though the unexpected return of her now grown imaginary friend, Faith, upturns her peaceful life in a big way.
Suddenly, the harmless pranks of her childhood seem more malicious and Faith's influence feels threatening to not only her but everyone she cares about. Coinciding with Faith's return is the arrival of a stranger who could provide salvation or damnation, but how can she possibly know who to trust when she isn't even she sure trusts herself?
Valerie Evans has had an interest in writing since she was a kid, though it wasn't until 2012 that she began The Anberlin Chronicles which is her first published work. She's a fan of multiple genres, including fantasy, fairy tales, horror, and chick lit which she likes to incorporate as inspiration for her own works. Presently she lives in Georgia with a very lethargic dog and an ever-growing collection of Funko Pops. I have read many, many novels, and yet I think that Kindred Spirit is one of the most original stories I’ve ever read. The only way I can possibly describe it would be a cross between The Shining with a little bit of Crescent City, maybe even The Mortal Instruments series. I have a lot of praise for this book, so let’s get started! . Many, many thanks to Evans for creating a character with a shrouded backstory, one that the reader must uncover only by reading further into the story. It definitely made the story much more interesting and added to Aria’s character so that the reader could feel more of what she was going through. The story and it’s world were very unique and full of mystery. Furthermore, Aira and Jeremy’s relationship was very well developed. I personally have a hard time figuring out how to make two characters come together over a period of time after hating each other, so I was glad that the development was smooth and natural. Faith was such a well-written antagonist. Through Aria’s eyes, I could almost feel the fear she felt toward Faith as well as the confusion as to her true nature. She was vicious in both subtle and not so subtle ways, manipulative and wicked-a job well done. . That being said, I really wish the ending between Faith and Aria had been lengthened, possibly with more difficulty when Aira was fighting for her power. Jeremy could have shouted support to her that would’ve added a final bolster, which in turn would have also strengthened their bond between each other. Also, adding a physical aspect to her fear of Faith or other situations would have deepened the reality of the situation and pulled the reader into that specific moment. Here’s an example: Panic coiled in her gut like a writhing snake, slowly leeching away her sanity as Faith’s crimson nails gripped her wrist. It’s unsettling and helps the reader to imagine what that must feel like, making the situation something the reader is experiencing alongside the protagonist. . A story unlike any other, Kindred Spirit is bound to grip your attention until the end. . Final grade: 5/5⭐️
Aria sees ghosts, but she is also a witch. When she was a child, she had an imaginary friend faith, she left behind in childhood. She was not prepared for faith to re-appear and something was definitely different about her now. This was an eerie but also exciting story. It was full of twists and turns I was not expecting. It has been awhile since I have read a book of this caliber. I will definitely be on the look out for more books by this author.
Aria is a witch. But not many people know. She can also see ghosts. She begins having dreams about her childhood imaginary friend but now she seems to be different. Then she shows up grown and definitely not the same. Aria saves a hunter named Jeremy. This exciting and intriguing story was interesting and fun.

I enjoyed this book completely. There is a lot of character building and world building, and the main character is very likable. I never wanted to put this down, but when I finally did, that was when I was completely finished and was left wanting more. I will be looking for more from this writer.

Valerie Evans pens a paranormal tale that is akin to reading about a helpful hometown girl and her close friends. Only, the young woman is a witch and some of her friends are supernatural. She leads as normal of a life as she can helping the townsfolk with minor illnesses and such until two entities enter her life. Now it's a fight for her survival. Evans tells the story with the kind of homey touches that will have you searching for a box of chamomile tea. There is action, suspense, mystery, and a smidge of humor. I had a great time guessing about the real identity of some of the characters. I'm looking forward to Book 2.
Interesting read. Very well researched. The author is very talented. I look forward to reading more of her books. The characters are interesting, and one can imagine being in the middle of the action as the story progresses.
No one normal is awake at this hour. 🦄🦄🦄 Aria knew she was a witch from the time she was twelve because that's how it was, all the women in her mom's side of the family are witches but the men don't know. Now, at age 27, she is used to the constant presence of ghosts, Vampires, werewolves and other creatures around her, but nothing scares her more than an imaginary friend she used to have named Faith, who has returned. Faith is not the only being threatening her now happy life, as a stranger in her town knows what she is, what she can do and what he wants to do with her. 🦄🦄🦄 Kindered Spirit is a gripping paranormal fantasy novel by Valerie Evans from the Anberlin Chronicles. Somehow I feel that if the story was only focused on Aria and Faith I would have enjoyed it a bit more because even though I get Jeremy's involvement and I have my own feelings of love-hate towards him (and his relationship with Aria is written really well) having a story with just the imaginary friend with it would knock it out of the park because Faith is pure Evil and I loved it. Ok, maybe I don't want Jeremy out of the book because his presence does add another dimension to Aria because of all the everything she's had to face on her own in the past. In some areas the writing does need to be revised because it felt out of place compared to the fluidity in the rest of the book, but it's something that can be overlooked since the most of the book outshines it's minor flaws. The ending however, could have been better because we had such a great build-up but I felt that the finale was two notches shy of being absolutely spectacular. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 8.5/10 Melina L.
