Amal Abdul-Hussein is an author who grew up in the capital of Canada, Ottawa, ON. After exploring children’s literature, she entered the world of poetry and decided it was time to make use of the words that her heart was begging to say. Her main purpose will always be to impact children, but to also impact all humans in general as they affect the little ones that are still growing. If we heal, they heal. Any heart out there who doesn’t feel like they can reach out for help, she is asking that you try. Things will get better, they always do and if she is part of that journey, her dream has come true.

Left me glued until it was completed. Raised many questions in my mind and wasn’t the same old love poems or self-love poems you see in most modern poetry books. You are told new things, things you never even thought of!

I recieved this book of poetry from goodreads. First off I will tell you I don't normally gravitate towards poetry. I don't have the patience to read and analyze. However, I really enjoyed Amal's words. Her thoughts were brilliant and spoke to me on a deep level. I must say I left my 20's behind years ago, but I still got alot from it. Sometimes it made me wish I could go back and tweek a few things. Sometimes I was like aha yes exactly. Sometimes I just felt like it was a new perspective. My favorite was the afterlife. I suppose that is just my kind of thing. It could be a real quick read, but I chose to absorb every word and rumminate on them. Thank you goodreads for the opportunity to read a book I would normally never pick up.

Going with 2.5 stars here. Super quick read. The poems are mostly just single statements spread over 2 to 3 lines, many of them have an inspirational poster feel to them. None have titles. This might be a good poetry book for people who don't tend to like poetry, because there isn't anything that's difficult to understand. There were definitely some good lines in here, and there's a general feeling of positivity and encouragement from the words. Not a bad thing for the times we live in, I suppose, when negativity keeps trying to rule the day. (Won this in a goodreads giveaway)

I like it, I love Rupi Kaur and her style if you like modern poetry, these are the books to purchase and if you don’t, don’t go for it! Some people have a hard time accepting this new style, but if it made me feel a type of way, I’ll say I’m happy with my purchase:) anyone suggest me any others in the same style? I feel like I read every possible poetry book release lol

I usually do not read poetry often, but stumbling upon this one here most definitely wasn’t a waste of time.

Very modern, easy to get through and inspiring. To me, It inspires living, common sense and hope of a better future that we have to work for.

“ why do we relate
white to pure
and black to sinful
night to crimes
and day to rise “

Quite interesting.. I am unsure if the author’s goal was to come after Amanda Lovelace because Amanda is a men hater......? Any who I got the kindle for free the ebook version is all over the place I think it did not convert properly as I purchased the paperback and it’s much much better in format.

I think this book, you have to be in a certain mindset to be able to understand exactly what this Author is trying to express. It’s not based on topics commonly repeated/found in other Modern Poetry. Overall, amazing powerful words and waiting for next one. Love from USA.

Similar to the modern poetry tastes nowadays, not for everyone and not for the older generations to understand for sure but incredible to me.
