Terrarium hobbyists interested in acquiring a truly exotic pet as well as life science students will find virtually everything they need to know about keeping a tarantula in captivity. This book includes detailed information on the natural history and biology of these fascinating creatures, and the care chapter has been completely updated and revised. The book is filled with color photos and scientifically accurate line art, most of which examples are new to this second edition. Since its initial publication, hobbyists have come to consider this book the Bible of Arachnoculture.
A great read for anyone who keeps tarantula or is thinking about getting one unfortunately some of the scientific names are in need updating now I really hope the authors plan to write another or just update and add to what is such an informative book some used to call this book tarantula Keepers bible with an updated version it could have this name once again.
A great plethora of information. From how to choose your tarantula and begin cage setup, to feeding and care including ICU care, to infectious diseases, to the history behind the myths, to an overview of breeding and even catching your own... This book covers it all! Very well written and even hilarious at certain points. The reader is warned several times on several different subjects 😉. My favorite warning is that getting into the hobby of collecting tarantulas is like eating a bag of potato chips, one is never enough! LOL 😄 So very true. I almost sat and read this book in one sitting. So informative and easy to follow. Things are explained step by step in a process that is very easy for the reader to visualize and duplicate. As a new tarantula owner myself I feel like I have learned volumes from this single book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who owns or is thinking about owning tarantulas or even spiders in general.
