Trying to be there for someone that refuses to do right can be difficult and taxing on the mental. Kema Richardson Semien understands this predicament well, because the love of her entire life has put her in the middle of it. After dating in high school and breaking up due to Philly’s involvement with drugs, Kema decides to focus on her rodeo career, not giving another man a second look. When Philly enters her life again over ten years later, it’s because his brother had married one of her best friends. Convincing her he’d left the streets behind and was now the owner of a successful mechanic shop, she succumbs to how she still feels for him and gives him a second chance. Philly Semien has been the local supplier for years and as his street pharmacy expanded its reach, he knew that he was in the position to take over all of Southeast Texas. However, the one thing he wanted was to have Kema Richardson. He vowed that he would do whatever he had to do to get her, including fabricating stories to deceive her. When his truth is discovered, Philly doesn’t know which way to turn. He knows that he was wrong for lying to his only love, but he didn’t know how to run the streets and give her what she wanted. There wasn’t room for both, especially since the life and Kema were like oil and water. His heart was begging for her forgiveness, but it was also longing for that adrenaline rush he got from the fast money the drug game offered. Kema loves Philly with everything in her, but she knows she can’t continue on the path they were on. Philly had deceived her and had betrayed her love in the process. Philly realizes that life just isn’t worth living without Kema, but will he be able to convince her that his intentions are pure?
Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
It was so many twists and turns in this story, I screamed at the book the entire middle to end! Let me say this though, Philly Semien was a lot lol 😂. It was a roller coaster ride with him that might I just say I would have happily gotten off! I guess that’s why I was never put in any situations as described in this read because I’m fumbling the ball everytime 😂! Either way, we like what we like & Philly Semien & Kema Richardson Semien were definitely soulmates! The fact that Kema stood by him through E V E R Y T H I N G was admirable, but that’s also what you do for your husband & vice versa! The book kept me entertained and was not short of drama! There was A L O T of snakey a** people present in this story! I mean it was just a lot, & It was overwhelming but not in a bad way 😂. Well done as usual 👏🏾!
Miss Monica! You came out the gate swinging with this one! Love your country hood tales, but then you go and throw some gangsta in the mix too! I was giving Philly the side eye, after finding out all that he had been hiding from Kema. That woman loved him unconditionally, and he broke her heart as well as her spirit! Philly was all the way hood and rough, but he had a tenderness about him, when it came to Kema. He really loved her, but allowed himself to get caught up in that fast life. He was trying desparately to do the right for Kema and his marriage, hoping he would make it to forever with her. Loved the Henderson/Semien clan, and how they always came together to take care of their own. I was nervous, shaking, sad, and anxious, all at the same time when life was being thrown at Philly. Could not believe that last snake that was revealed! Come on through Sidney! She barged in and showed out! Glad to see her still doing her thang. Through it all Philly and Kema's thug love stood strong! Damn good read! 👍👍👍
Kema and Philly were a lot! They stayed going back and forth, but it was all love. They went through a lot just to be with each other without the drama and hopefully they'll live happily ever after! I'm sure we'll get to hear from them again soon!
I don’t even know where to begin. To say that this was a page turner doesn’t even begin to describe the thrill ride it truly was. There were twists, turns, humor, quick wit, and in true Monica Walters fashion—hot pearl-clutching love scenes that left nothing to the imagination! Kema and Philly knew they were bad to each other, but they knew they were just right for one another. Kema took a chance and looked past Philly’s countless indiscretions and it cost her big time. Nonetheless, Philly said he would make it right and he did. Through the toxicity of their back and forth and the loss of time and energy, Kema and Philly managed to snatch their happiness without sacrificing their love. The cherry on top of it all where the cameos of the Hendersons—who supported Kema and Philly through it all—making them once again the real MVP’s.
This is the story I've been waiting for. Very well written. Kema and Philly were that couple that fought just as hard as they loved each other. The fire and passion these two had was undeniable. Kema was definitely his Bonnie but she also wanted Philly to be and do better than the secret life he was living. Their relationship was truly put to the test with drama and backstabbing from those who were considered friends. What i liked about Philly was that he wasn't going to let Kema go down for his wrong doing. He proved to Kema that he got her back and he planned on being around for the long haul. I loved the cameos from the Hendersons who were a great support system for Kema and Philly as well as Mrs. Sidney Taylor.
This title was a really good read.. I love me a good story about married couples and this book didn't disappoint. Who knew Country Hood love stories could be this damn interesting. I loved how it mirrored the reality of all that thug life ish. They say the heart wants what the heart wants!! Poor Kema couldn't resist a persistent Philly and all the baggage he came with no matter how hard she tried. The kind of chemisrty these two had was very rare, Some soul ties type ish 🤎🤎🤎. The love and support from the Henderson/Semien Clan was lovely as always. Despite all the trails and obstacles Kema and Philly faced they were able to over come it all. Their love story was the prefect definition of a beautiful Chaos 🤎🤎🤎
When I read the prologue I was hooked wait hold up when I read the preview before it came out I knew it was going be lit🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. These two kem and philly chemistry was bomb. The way they held each other down was amazing ❤️💯😘. I love the scene at the doctor officewhen they both find what they were having ❤️❤️. monica Walters is brilliant on how she brings the characters to life in the stories. I love how other characters showed up as well from previous series. This story 🔥💓🙌🏾. I loved it.💯💞💞
Philly and kema has to my hands down my favorite country book!! Philly is my hood bae!! And kema is my ratchet queen and everything they went through is lesson that you have to keep your eyes on everyone because the ones you least expect be the ones that turn on you!! But the kema and Philly love story is history in the making and I love it they always have love for each other and I love how she after everything she was still there and didn’t divorce him!! Overall phenomenal story mama in love lol
Baby, Philly & Kema almost ran my blood pressure up with their stubborn and spoiled tales. The main thing I loved about them was the genuine love they had for each other. That was some real stuff. It's the sacrifice he made for his wife for me. You know what, I'm moving to None for real. Y'all gon quit playing with me about these country hood men. I was so excited to read the OG's appearances. That made my night. Muscle was a straight up snitch minus the sn and adding another. It's always the closest ones to do you in. Listen, ain't no damn damage intentions over here! Kemie was a whole thug out here. She represented though. Great read!!!!
This was another intriguing read by this author. The way she merges country and hood together is one of a kind. Kemie and Philly had history & from page 1 we are caught up in the drama of their past, present, and future. As I read I wondered if they would work it out. What I noticed about her work is that it unpredictable because often times the man doesn’t really deserve the girl in the end so I can realistically see alternative endings!
What can I say?!! You have done it again Monica Walters. I absolutely LOVED the chemistry between Philly & Lena. Can anybody say "hawt"🔥🔥🔥 Philly was a straight up trash talker & I was there for it. This book had everything... little bit suspense...lots of romance...and some hot sex thrown in the mix. You just can't go wrong. All I can say is keep you them coming Monica Walters!!
This was definitely not your average Country Hood Love story but I loved every minute of it. Philly hard to learn a few lessons in life the hard way but his heart was what made the difference. I loved that Kema stood up for herself and even though she loved her man she demanded change. Of course the Henderson’s are always a good time in any book especially the crazy Storm. I loved the family loyalty and how they support one another. Great read
I am so excited anytime I see a book with Monica because I know I’m going to get the real. She kept me turning the page and anxious to see how things would play out for Philly and Kema. I enjoyed their story and love when the Henderson’s show up. I need to go back and read their stories again just to laugh at some of the moments I was reminded of when the characters are in her books. And let’s not forget Sidney Badass Taylor. Yes ma’am Monica Walters. Always love your work. Queen with a pen.
I am literally running out of ways to say Monica is the TRUTH!!!! I was in stitches laughing at Philly and Kema😂😂. They certainly got on my nerves, well Kema but they were so much fun. If you know Monica, you know these two were super sexy and steamy💥💨💦.There was nothing predictable about the book. Great job again.
These two souls were so bound to each other that they couldn’t stay away! There was so much fire and passion between these two! This book gave me a little thug love, mixed with country swag, and even made me emotional at times! I really enjoyed this book!!!!!!
Philly and Kema gave us the perfect picture of loyalty and love. They had an undeniable bond that others could only dream about! Spoiler Alert: It was refreshing to see Kema stand by her man come hell or high water. And she was able to defend herself while doing so! Monica didn't disappoint in this read. It still possessed all the drama and steamy love scenes for which she is known!
I love Philly and Kema's love story. It was great seeing how much he loved her, he was tied up in the game, but he was willing to give it up for her. He had so many snakes around him though. But I guess he see now that when you have a group like the Siemens and the Henderson's in your corner you don't need anyone else.
Monica you did it again! What a great story. I loved Philly and his thuggish ways. The love he had for Kema was a thing of beauty. Kema got on my nerves at first ,but I'm glad she followed her heart and accepted Philly flaws and all. Can't wait for the next Country hood story!!!
I wanted to punch Philly a few times because he was messing up. There was no need for him to continue doing what he was doing when he had a good women and he didn’t even need to do it. I like that Kema wasn’t a pushover but she followed his lead only when she was ready to. I’m glad everything worked out the way it did. Another Mo banger!
Philly loved him some Kemie but he loved the street life more or so he thought. When Philly finally realizes his feelings for Kemie is stronger than the streets he gives it all up. Kemie loves Philly in every aspect of the word and her only desire is for Philly to see it. Good read in the series
Whew child!! I was so excited when I found out Kema and Philly were getting a book and it did not disappoint! Kema and Philly were an intense rollercoaster ride. The way philly fought for his woman my God! Loved this story! ❤🔥
The Soul of a Thug... This book was a true page turner! Kema's love and loyalty misted with Philly's street credit will keep you on the edge of the pages! This was definitely worth the wait. Monica, you wrote the heck out of these characters 🔥🔥
I loves this story! The love those two shared was so deep and all the things they went through! What Philly did for Kema was so real! I also loved how the author incorporated characters from other books as well! I was like,”I know them!” Another 5 star read!
I absolutely loved Kema &Philly. Philly had a lot of shit with him but he loved Kema from his soul. Kema was a ride or die. I hated that his friend played him in the end but I'm so glad that he got his self together. Those babies I think will finish helping bring out the best in him. This was a wonderful story!!
So many emotions. So many times I wanted to throw things at both Kema and Philly. This is a must read. It’ll will tap on all your nerves and make you experience all emotions but an amazing ride it will be. Another amazing story.
This book was awesome, like all of Monica's books are. Philly and Kema took me on a journey with them. They both sacrificed for the love they knew was true for the both of them.
I was skeptical of reading this book. I’m not really into thugs or urban romance. However, after reading a page I was hooked. This was a great love story. Philly and Kema had a connection that couldn’t be broken. This is definitely a must read!
I thought Kema was gone for good. Adonis was to good to be true I knew he was a snake. Philly said Kema was naive but when in trouble those instincts kicked in. They say let it go and if it's meant to be it comes back. Philly was a stand up dude.
