I really love this family and now all of the other books I read (of course…out of order) about various members of this family now makes sense to me. I love the Smith, Washington, Christianson Clan. I love how these people sick together to ensure that family is first.
There was so much going on in this story. The title indicates that it's Justice and Delia's love story when it in fact encompasses the loves of the Christianson and Washington brothers. I actually would have preferred if the story was centered more around Justice and Delia.
Justice aka Chop was head over heels for Delia. He knew there was something about her when he first met her. Sweet Delia had a rough life and she went through a lot in this book. Her mother was a terrible piece of work, the spite she carried was unreasonable and left Delia in constant danger. Through all of this it was nice to see Delia grow, to find her voice and to be able to fully accept Justice's love.
In the midst of all this the Christianson and Washington brothers continue to grow their families. I was so glad that they addressed this first cousin mess with Tae and Trell because it was one of the things I felt wasn't fully addressed in the previous book. Lee cracked me up she was beyond extra and it was nice to see her choose up even though she was scarred from yet another terrible mother/daughter relationship.
Did I mention that these stories are hood. I loved when they were talking in their lingo. There were also some gruesome parts, that were borderline unrealistic but definitely added to the mystique of the characters.
Overall I enjoyed the way that these men love their women. Black love is a beautiful thing to see. Although, they were slightly obsessive they would do anything for their women and children.
WOW! There's so much to unpack, yet I'll keep it short.
Delia was such a precious one. I hate what happened to her and to know that we didn't even get ALL of what those crazy sick people did to her, yet thought it was ok, is mind boggling. I'm glad she had Justice, aka Choppa, by her side. Justice DID NOT play about his wife and son.
It was real refreshing to get to know the rest of the Washington and Christianson families. The way the men and women had each other's backs was phenomenal. Not only that, the way they were teaching their children to do the same had me in awe. Love it.
Trell and Tae are some funny fools and I cannot wait to continue their journey in the next book.
I'm loving these family connections. Mel Dau is slowly creeping up the ladder on my favorite author list. Sis can write a book and tell a story. I love that she has other authors in her book that her characters are reading. ' If we don't take care of us, who will?' ...I felt that strongly in this book.
This series just keeps getting better and better. Let's see how Trell and Tae are about to cut up😏. On to book 4.
What a story! I cannot believe I slept on this read for so long, shame on me! Mel, girl, let me tell you something. I have read many of your books, but this one here, just touched every inch of me! I think I was already crying halfway through the first chapter. I just could not believe the horrific things that Delia had to endure! So called friends, and a momma that ain't worth ish! Pay attention to your children people! Their actions will tell you everything their mouths won't. So heartbroken for little girl Delia, and the remnants, that she still holds now. The Christianson/Washington tribe is fiercely loyal and protective of their own. I loved the cohesiveness of this family. When you call one, they all come running! Love, love, love all the couples; but Justice went to war for his wife, and helped her fight all her battles to come out victorious! An amazing read! Congratulations!
Educated men, yes... Didn't mention in the last that the education on these characters was just about the sexiest thing about them. I didn't mention in the other series because it wasn't shined on as much as in this one. I thought Justice and Delia were okay for each other but I can't see her situation getting any better because she didn't seem to want to work as hard especially with her going on and off her meds. Overall this was a great read and I wouldn't mind following along with more.
Let me first say the cover is beautiful!! I love the blue rose at the start of the chapters. Mel Dau captured mental illness and sexual abuse in a way that really touched me. Actually bought me to tears. This is her third book and I hope she’s not going to stop.
Mel Dau this book was so good it brought awareness to mental illness i loved how u incorporated yourself into the story tht was awesome & i can't wait to read more books by this author bc her pen game is dope
Whew… this one was HEAVY in the best and hardest ways. First and foremost, Justice Choppa Christianson is THAT man. The way he loved his wife deserves a standing ovation. This wasn’t pretty, easy or romanticized love this was real, gritty, stay when it’s hard love. Reading him navigate loving a woman battling mental illness, while feeling exhausted, scared and sometimes helpless yet still choosing her every single time 🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾 Powerful. His love never wavered even when the weight of it all could’ve crushed him.
Delia’s story hurt my heart and lifted it at the same time. She truly is a rose that fought her way through concrete. Her strength didn’t come from pretending she wasn’t broken it came from surviving anyway. Seeing her surrounded by a family and community that refused to let her fall through the cracks made all the difference. That support system was Chef’s kiss. The friendships, the loyalty, the protection this is what chosen and blood family is supposed to look like.
Can we talk about how connected everyone is the way the families move as one unit, how love and protection ripple through every relationship, made this story feel full and alive. The balance of darkness, healing, love and even moments of joy (yes… baby making included) kept the emotional rollercoaster rolling. Every single character was needed nothing was fluff.
Also THANK YOU for clearing up that confusion because I was side eyeing hard. Mystery officially solved and I can breathe again. Cause 1st cousins nahhhhh that ain't it.
This series has me locked in, no escape, no parole. Emotional, layered and deeply human. I’m invested in every single character and whatever comes next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm glad that pedo got dealt with. They should of took care of Delia bitch ass human incubator too. I'm glad Phy beat her ass. I think it's bullshit these fake "parents" coming out the woodwork. Chad hasn't been a damn daddy to Trell a day in his life now he calling him father. Same with Tae and "Mama Joc" they don't deserve the privilege. Lela was on some straight ho shit, I can somewhat understand her thought process but not really. She needed therapy if she couldn't act right and love the man who been there for her since day one. Co really did because most men would of bounce when the cookie jar is spread wide open to many. I like the elements of the couples but those were alot of damn J's. I'm ready for this series to be over. That's never a good sign. I understand for the purpose of the story drama had to ensue but the pedo even being able to take Delia was some bullshit. All the women putting they babies in danger driving this ATV was bullshit as well. Just say you wanted to be involved. They went about it the fucked up secretive way which made no sense.
I don’t know what’s needed in a part 4 because this book was soooo heavy!!!…To know this author bared a bit of her struggles in writing this book makes it that much more relatable!!!… i don’t know if I can take much more!!!…Even with the addition of the other characters stories, Delia story stayed in the the front of my mind!!!… To learn that her mother allowed those horrible things because she blamed her for the death of her brother as if she was his parent!!!… I loved the way these couples came together to keep their families pushing after the loss of grandma!!!… Charles was definitely a very sick person!!!… I’m so happy Trell is getting some information on his other parent since it was discovered that what he believed was not true!!!… I laughed a hearty laugh when they thought they were kissing cousins!!!…
Mel Dau did an outstanding job on book three of this series. If I wasn’t already in love with the bond this family has, I definitely would have fell in love reading this book.
It was great meeting the Christianson side of the family, Tae’s big brothers and their wives!! Justice & Delia, Jamison & Lela, and Justin & LaChell love each other unconditionally and are 10 toes down for each other. It was great reading how they loved and supported each other through every trial and attack that tried to come against their family.
Watching the growing bond between the Washington-Christianson family was simply amazing and made me wish my family had that same bond. This book is definitely a must read!
Not gonna lie, I was scared to come over here. When we first met Delia I was like okay another bipolar girl I wonder will I see myself in her. In some ways I did. Some of our life experiences were the same but Delia had it WAY WORSE than me & I cried for her. Now I love justice for her & I love that he took time to u sweat as her but I wanted to smack him when he was t communicating with her but treating her like she’s inadequate even if he didn’t know that was what he was doing. Charles was sicker than we thought & I’m glad she got to do it! This new revelation of Trell has me ready for his book! The rest of the crew has shown what a true family was. Co made me mad but Lee did too but they redeemed themselves.
I love interlocking of series books. Chop and Dee's story was sad, sad but good. The things that she endured at the hands of her so called best friend, her dad, and her mom! On top of that she bipolar. Justice was the right man for her. Be was kind, compassionate, patient but firm. We were able to meet the other Christianson brothers and their significant other. This relationships were all beautiful. Khia, Phy, Trell, and Tae showed up in this book as well. The only thing I don't get is all of these difficult names. Why not James, Jessica, Jerome, Jules, Jason of something like those??? Jumani? Ugh! Trying to figure out bow to pronounce those names.....hard eye roll.
Mel Dau you did your big one with this story! First thank you for clearing up the 1st cousin thing with Tae and Trell, I wanted to DM you about it but I was waiting! Charles was a sick individual and needed to be dealt with something serious, I was so glad they did him .dirty! Delia got her lick back too! That mental abuse was no joke, so happy you introduced therapy into the story. I love each couple and so glad Chad Smith explained everything to Trell. This one was very emotional sexual perverted abuse is very real. A few times in the story I teared up. Loved it wholeheartedly. Great read!
Ah dang😬,one seventy three reasons to choose wisely🫣🤦🏾♀️. …are we relatives, family or foes⁉️🤔Hmmm, crickets & cotton🫣…‼️ Meanwhile, ”Justice’s Rose (A Charleston Love Story - Book 3)” was/is a phenomenal read into the prolific Christianson/Washington/Smith world tribe of entrepreneurs‼️This “Charleston Love Story”🔥 series with approximately twelve weeks remaining in 2024, might be my number one selection for best series 📚of the year, definitely top three & an imperative prerequisite reading to the Mal Dau’s literary catelogue🔥.
😭😭😭😭 That whole prologue is a ⚠️⚠️🚩trigger Warning 🚩⚠️⚠️. It's Delias backstory.....it included SA, and r**e.
Just saying...what I know now ..Gina deserved everything they did to her😤😮💨.
Reading more and more I hurt for Delia. There are so many confused feelings and emotions around her.
Ooohhh😫😫 this whole uncle, cousin, Daddy's brother is got me confused. When you get to it, just put yourself in their place. Cause baby ..I had to stop and talk myself through it. ⚠️🤦🏾♀️
A lot happened, but a lot was cleared up and closed out. this ended very nicely.
Mel Dau, this is a hard read for me. Being a survivor of rape is something that never leaves you. You can either let it destroy you or fight to live. When I tell you the things Delia went through, God h eld her in his hands . I love the strength that this crew has for each other. The bond they have is a great family. Hopefully, all demons are gone, but we will see. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This collection had me hooked from the very beginning. The dynamic between the characters warmed my heart, creating emotional depth and real connection. At the same time, the ruthlessness of the men left me in awe—it was intense, gripping, and impossible to look away. Every book in the set pulled me in deeper. This is a must-read collection for anyone who loves strong character relationships, emotional intensity, and powerful storytelling!
This book was so beautiful. It touched on sensitive topics respectfully and caringly while showing depth to the characters. Deliah had a rough childhood with all the abuse she sustained, but although she may have fallen, she never gave up. When Justice enters her life, he brings love, understanding, family, and protection! He did not play about his Rose, and I loved their journey to love and forever. Now, I can't wait to keep reading about these families and the new generation.
Justice’s Rose is raw, emotional, and inspiring. Delia Rose’s journey with bipolar disorder is handled with honesty and heart, and Justice (Choppa) is the steady, loving partner she deserves. Their relationship is real, messy, and deeply moving, while the Washington and Christianson families add humor, drama, and warmth. This isn’t just a romance—it’s a story about resilience, love, and finding strength in yourself and your community.
loved reading the backstory on some of my favorite characters
I started my journey with Mel Dau reading Megatron so it was nice to read this story and see where some of my favorite characters got their start. It was a little rough, reading the trauma of some characters, but it was great to see how they survive and come out on top in the end.
I thought Delia told all the stuff she had been through, but that last reveal was crazy. I am so proud of Justice for going out and finding help to not only understand his wife but also make sure he can handle not only her disorder but her traumas as well. I love how the sisterhood evolved and rallied behind her to get the closer she needed. Overall, great read
Each story just gets better. When you think you know something, a curve ball comes at you. What I love most is the way the story reflects family and embraces each new member with open arms. Our community definitely need to be reminded of family stick together no matter what.
This series just gets better with every page. Delia’s story is heartbreaking 💔 but her ending is beautiful. These men do not play about their women and same for the women!! The family dynamics, mental health, love, friendship and savagery is unmatched!!! Mel does it again.
This book is seriously triggering. It was extremely hard to read some of the situations young women were put in. At some points it was difficult to move on to the introduction of newer characters b/c of the heartbreaking, physical and emotional trauma. Be prepared when reading.
This family is just that…a family. The way they band together to show the love and support they have for one another is amazing. I’m glad that Chop was able to find his Rise in all the thorns, Trell his legacy and just overall peace with their traumas and mental health. Mel Day is the GOAT when it comes to to writing about mental health and specials within people.
Wow😢😢😢this one had me in tears! Delia bless her heart🥺what she endured and overcame was ahmazzing! This family was off the chain! They stood ten toes down for one another always! The banter was hilarious! But in the end they stood on love and family! I was soo happy Delia got her closure🥹👊🏽👊🏽
This book was very good but heavy at the same time. Anytime a book involves mental health it’s tough to get through. But the drama and the love this book has in it makes it worth the read.
Mel Dau, u never disappoint! When I tell u these books are awesome, these r the truth!! huni, I just had to come give you your flowers 💐🌹💐 ! Now on to book 4, let me see what Tell crazy self and his dad talkin about, toodles!
