So, my naïve parents thought it would be a great idea to move to Portland with aunt Maddy. Fresh start … blank page … new adventures and all that. That’s why we’re here. And whose are those two cute puppies, by the way?
Anyway, what my loving parents didn’t stop to think about was the reality of living in Portland. OMG. It is like a war zone! Neighbours from hell … annoying students … crazy teachers … an intimidating school blog that bullies the students … a park that is cursed (yes, cursed!) and a really hot bad boy.
I know! Could it get any more cliché? Well... yes, it could. Believe me.
By the way, I’m Amy White, and as you might have guessed, I am NOT happy about leaving my home, my friends and my life for this one.
Fresh start … blank page … new adventures … my ass!
Akaku Red’s short story titled, “Confusion: Things That Could Happen Because Of A Misunderstanding” was quite a nice, easy, and relaxing read because it’s a short story that gave me the impression of ‘how nice it would be to be that young again and feel those same emotions and feelings once more’. I really liked how this book gave me the “butterflies in my tummy” in every page and it was most definitely enticing to keep turning the page until I reached the end. In this review, I’ll do my best NOT to give any spoilers.
The author Akaku Red does a really nice job of laying out all of the foundations by being highly descriptive of every single character. I really liked how the author developed the characters gradually. Honestly, I truly appreciated the details that the author evidently worked so hard to put together in the story because it gave me clear visuals as I read the story and the author’s words allowed me to vividly paint a picture in my mind. Truthfully, the author’s descriptive words made me feel like I was there in the story itself too which is what good stories should do.
Besides my appreciation of the gradual character development, I also really liked how the author developed the story. It was clear that there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end. Although Akaku Red is a beginning author, this author clearly laid out the story very well because every character had a purpose and every scene led somewhere and everything mentioned had some sort of significance which is why they were mentioned in the first place. In other words, the flow of the story went really well, so it was an easy read. All of the loose ends were tied up beautifully in the end in the “BONUS” pages where some earlier scenes were explained from a different character’s point of view and I thought that that was a really beautiful way to end the story.
This short story could be read by someone as young as 13 years old and could be thoroughly enjoyed by someone who is 17 years old. Of course, as an adult, I found this to be an enjoyable and a relaxing read as well because it’s nice to reminisce and to be brought back to the days of young when I was also the same age as the protagonist and when I also felt the same feelings and emotions as the protagonist in the story named “AMY WHITE”.
I absolutely loved how Akaku Red developed the character of AMY WHITE. I mean, it’s one of the reasons why I really liked this story is because the protagonist, AMY WHITE, is such a mentally strong girl who is decisive, who knows what she wants, and who is resilient. I found the character lovable the more that I got to know her through the pages because she’s not the type of person to feel sorry for herself despite her circumstances. Absolutely not! Instead, she’s a solution finder and a problem solver! She’s someone who is adaptable and flexible, and fights for her rights, and fights for what’s right!
Kudos to the author Akaku Red because I can barely wait to read more from this author in the future especially as time passes by and this author gains more experience, more knowledge, and more wisdom over the years because I’m certain that this author will produce greater and greater works of literature. I mean, if the author can already paint a picture this good in everyone’s mind, I can’t even begin to imagine how even greater this author’s future literary works will be. Keep up the good work and keep writing!
A humorous girl and a funny plot! Amy was the average 17 year old girl who left her hometown with her lively aunt Maddy! The school was really crazy and I felt the scene with the teacher. I also had such teachers lol 😆 it was a quick read and I was consuming this pages! Damon and Amy were a good match and I love love loved the bonus 😍 Truly enjoyed reading it ❤️
“Things that Could Happen Because of a Confusion” is a novel written by Akaku Red and it tells the story of an adolescent who is upset because of her parents’ decision of moving city. She will have to start over in a new place, with a new school, new classmates and a new lifestyle. Although her parents believe this will be a positive change, she finds everything terrible and very different. This is a romantic comedy which made me laugh and have a lot of fun due to the protagonist’s character. The author has cleverly portrayed a typical teenager and her problems. The characterization is excellent. The plot flows and makes the reading very easy and quick. I greatly enjoyed it and I think it is a good book to give to an adolescent as a present.
Confusion, by author Akaku Red, is a short read for adolescents or young adults. The plot is centered around a teenage girl called Amy White who moves out of the city towards a new place due to her father’s transfer from work. A fresh start begins, one she does not like. A time to face new challenges starts and Amy describes them in the first person in this narrative. The fact that the author has resorted to the use of the first-person singular to tell this story, I believe makes readers feel nearer the main character and empathise with her, thus empathise with the book itself. Short and easy to follow, this narrative is very sweet. This story can be read in one sitting and it is ideal for young readers to take with them on vacation. Loved it!
I started reading “Confusion” out of curiosity. I saw the cover and, to me, it was fresh, light, hilarious and free. The story ticks all those boxes, too. This is a light-hearted romance short story, excellent for passing the time.
The gist is juicy and well-achieved - it captivated my attention in no time. The writing is light and simple, containing everyday expressions and common language.
Akaku Red is the writer of this short story. I do not know a lot about her, but I feel she knows how to get to teenagers and young adult’s heads.
I recommend this one because it was unputdownable!
The first thing that called my attention about this book was its cover because it looks very funny. Also, it is a short length book so I finished it in one sitting, perfect for taking on holidays or for reading during a long free night. In “Confusion” I found the story of a teenager with the typical problems and situations that make me laugh out loud when her parents decided to move to a new city, Portland, with aunt Maddy. When you think that things couldn't be worse, so it happens.
In conclusion, I had an amazing time with this piece of writing and I am pretty sure that readers, like me, would enjoy it the most.
Isn't it perfect when you find a short length book, which is ideal to read in one go? This is the story of Amy White, an ordinary teenage girl, who moved to Portland. New beginnings are not easy, much less for children and adolescents, but for some reason Amy's parents assumed that it would be beneficial for her. But what they don't know is that Amy hates Portland. Can this young woman make this place her home? I personally think this book is different from many stories I have read, because this narrative includes modern themes and it has a very original plot. I highly recommend this reading.
“Confusion” is a very funny short story to enjoy on a free afternoon. I purchased this book thinking about giving it to my teenage niece. I think it has all the condiments for her to enjoy and relate in some aspects giving the main character is her age.
Akaku Red created a very funny story, although it has the typical teenage drama, as the author said, that doesn't make this story any less captivating and hilarious.
It is also a really good book to show how sometimes being comfortable with situations or people we are not too comfortable, is going to lead into building a strong relationship with ourselves.
This romance story with a touch of comedy written by Akaku Red was quite enjoyable. It is very short, so I read it in a single sitting. It is the story of a seventeen-year-old girl who has to leave everything behind because her parents thought it was a good idea that she moves with her aunt to Portland, to make her company. There she will find that everything is quite different and not so comfortable for her. I liked how fresh the author’s writing style is. She created a good plot and added good descriptions to that readers feel inside the story. I would recommend it.
Confusion is a cute but also an upsetting novella. I adored that this didn’t even seem like a short story; it almost felt like a full one. This delightful masterpiece is about work transfer, love, friendship and second chances. The protagonist is a very funny teenager who had to move out of her city and faced the “typical” problems of that particular age. The writing is on point, short, with no errors and the dialogues flow smoothly through all the reading. I loved the main characters as well. There were even some moments that wowed me. This is the first time I read something from Akaku Red, but it will certainly not be the last one. To be honest, it is better than I thought it could be when looking at the cover. I definitely recommend this book.
