Dr. Bernadette Garneau holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and is four months out of a four-year relationship. One good thing about breaking up is that Bernadette is free to explore her repressed sexual desires. One message from a beautiful and powerful online Mistress and Bernadette leaps into the world of BDSM. Mistress Ciara takes charge, and Bernadette reels in the heady power this stranger has over her. She has gotten a taste of the life, and she wants more. She needs more.
Danielle Grainger currently resides in the southeastern USA with several pampered fur babies. Always an avid reader, she got into writing after reading several novels which she felt didn’t accurately represent the BDSM lifestyle. With so many rampant misconceptions about the lifestyle, she took a chance and crafted an admittedly idealized version of one possible experience. Dani hopes not only to entertain her readers but to enlighten and educate as well.
First of all props to Ms. Grainger for writing her own BDSM book after deciding the ones she had read so far were not an accurate representation of the lifestyle. I can agree, I read more than my share of those types of books.
So here's why I couldn't finish this. Despite the book being well written, I can't say that I identify with anything I read. The story is told from the POV of Bernadette, a woman who has recently discovered that she's submissive. Despite me being a switch, I'm nowhere near her level and wanted to throttle Ciara throughout the book. Of course I've read other books that were told from the POV of the sub but there was an imbalance of power here that I will never be comfortable with.
The other and more important reason why I decided to abandon this book is because of the amount of race play involved. I know some people are into that and that's fine if it's between consenting adults. I however will never engage in it. I don't accept it in my relationships and I certainly don't want to read about it in something that I consider an escape from my day to day life.
It's a shame really because it's obvious Ms. Grainger has done her homework and I'm really curious to see what she'll write next. If it follows the same themes in this book however, I'll have to pass.
Wrecking Bernadette: Book One of the Bernadette Series is not for the gentle reader looking for the light variant where a few smacks on the butt or a flick of the switch will do, but for those who are truly interested in full-on BDSM. We start at absolute ground level when our main character (and total innocent in the world of kink) Bernadette feels she might be a submissive and wants to explore further.
The author writes in her encore that ‘she got into writing after reading several novels which she felt didn’t accurately represent the BDSM lifestyle. With so many rampant misconceptions about the lifestyle, she took a chance and crafted an admittedly idealized version of one possible experience’.
After we are eased into it, things really get going when Bernadette meets Mistress Ciara in the flesh for the first time and is invited to stay the weekend. I thought poor Bernadette got quite a thorough introduction course, one that would .
Was it well written? Yes. A very good debut. Was it interesting? Absolutely. After a slow start we really get the full experience. Was it fun? Not really. Was it sexy? Not to me, personally. I will not accompany Bernadette on her next BDSM adventure.
Oh what a book! Not fit for people who are not interested even a bit in BDSM however if you are, this book is hot. I loved the respect between characters, the easiness of making new friends. It is absolutely fascinating. Is it something I would do in my private life? Not to the full extend..no…but some…I would definitively try! Looking forwards to the next book.
4.5 Holy smokes, what an intense ride. This book is full on BDSM and I am happy that I knew this going in. That being said, I liked the writing style of the author, it went smooth and I had no trouble getting sucked into the story of Bernadette discovering who she is and finding her voice. So, for debuts, this is an excellent start.
I did want to throttle Mistress Ciara at certain points, I understand why she did certain things and she also explains this to Bernadette in the end, but boy oh boy, I was talking really angry at my kindle at some points. While a lot of stuff in the book are things I would not entertain in doing or like being told, I liked that the author did her homework. That does make for a better read, even though I am not into most of the things she writes about in book one.
The ending of the book deserved an: ‘Hell yes’ from me.
I will gladly follow Bernadette on the next part in her journey of finding her true self.
2,7 stars. The online sex part took too long for me. I wanted more physical interactions I guess. And I didn’t understand the crossing the hard limit part. I didn’t feel comfortable reading that part (and other parts) And I didn’t connect with Bernadette.

Crossing hard limits is a huge no-no. Yet this writer launched her MC into the world of being submissive with an aggressive character who was perhaps the worst Domme I’ve ever seen.
There are far better authors out there who know much more than this one does. Makes me think all her research was half-hearted and inaccurate.
All series review... Book 1 - 2 star - discovering submissive ID, first Domme (abusive) but quite hot gang-bang (no men involved) Book 2 - 1 star - trying to figure out which type of Domme, VERY abusive Domme Book 3 - 3 star - beginning to find local community, 1st local Domme (abusive but less so than previous), but finally finds good one in book's second half Book 4 - 4.5 star - finally in good, loving D/s relationship, from POV of Domme (Rikki)
That was a really awesome BDSM story of Bernadette and her courage to find a place in the World of D/s and her journey to find her voice, strength and who she really is. Her Domme in this part of the story is a really hot one! This is not the typical w/w lesfic story but it has some tender moments... Everyone who loves a good BDSM story should read it and everybody else who is just interested, also!!
A wonderful 4 book series. The story is about discovering who Bernadette is. Her search for a match. The failures she suffered. Finally, she meets her one. The right one and reaches her dream life. Loved all four books. They were difficult at times but so is reality.
