After almost a year since Regan came to the world Murgin, danger has followed him like a loyal dog. Threats are the main theme of his life as a dungeon core and every time he deals with one, another appears to take its place. Now with the struggles of the Beneath Races as well as the mysterious peril coming from space, he might not have time to solve all his current problems before one of them blows up in his face. He is not without any recourse though, and he has a plan to meet the dangers. The question is will he be able to succeed? Louella has more power than ever before, but a part of her is worried that it will not be enough to protect the people she loves and cares for in Vaihdetta. That does not stop her from working to make sure her people are happy and protected. Even if it means descending into the horror and war torn Beneath. She has a mission, and she is determined that to fulfill it.
So, honestly, I read these not for the characterizations but to see what huge monstrosities will come from the pages. And not only monsters, per se, but planetoids and planet eaters.
Wait. Is this a fantasy? An SF? A LitRPG?
Um, yeah. All of the above. Dungeon cores, super-immense mana energy, robotics on a godlike scale, and demons who are little bitches beneath this onslaught.
So? What's wrong then?
Nothing, if you don't really care if there's a story or a beginning, a middle, or an end. And really, who cares? We're in Cosmic Marvel Kaiju territory now.
The last few books have been very short and filled with constant change and added characters. There is so much that you do not get attached to anyone and stop following the nuances of character interactions. This has become the definition of muddled. So by this point I find myself flying through the book without really caring about the people of events. I really liked the start of this series and wish more care has been given to it's growth.
After a couple of less-polished efforts recently, this one is properly edited. Add to that (which really should be a minimum condition for a book, but that's independent publishing for you) a solid advance in the plot, character development, and good pacing and you have a 5 from me.
This reminds me of why I'm not enjoying the "evil Regan" alternate series, as Regan prime has to do enough outlandishly destructive things to try to save as many people as possible that actually going "full evil" is just excessive.
On to the next one. I hope that the author comes up with something else I can get into, because some day this series will end, and I'd like to see this talent properly employed.
A dungeon core who is based on robotics and technology, what's not to love. This book advances the timeline a bit but while this isn't painful yet, it is starting to feel like that author is padding a bit. But there is enough new content to keep the series interesting and I'm ok with a little padding as I'd like this series to last. Fun read though once I seriously started reading the story I burned through it pretty quickly indicating it held my interest better than TV or anything else did. All in all I enjoyed the book.
Our favorite dungeon is still at it and his friends are conquering the world. The main story progresses a bit, a little more world building, and the stage is getting set for the big demonic showdown upcoming. Not a stand alone novel; it is a continuation.a fun read that I enjoyed and hope you will too.
I love this series, but I can't wait for the audiobooks to be released. I rarely make time to read, maybe 2 books a year aside from technical material, but this series and my drive for more has made me read this book and I will be starting the next shortly.
Still too short tho ): not that I mind much but when I have free time I don't do much other than read, so long books are awesome but for this series it don't matter just be nice.
This book was mostly alright. There were times I had little motivation to read it due to the story pacing being on the slow side. Overall it was a good book though
Entertaining and reveals a lot more about the world lore. I am getting a little tired of jealousy being presented as love. But whatever it takes to use the tired old trope of love triangles I guess.
Regan, The Machine Father, is preparing his adopted world for an invasion of demons. The last demon invasion was five thousand years before Regan arrived on Murgin and a repeat is believed to be impossible since the demons' portals were sealed and their method of creating their portals could not be repeated as they had already sacrificed their world's spirit to make the first portals. However, Regan is certain that beings as driven by the urge to conquest as the demons will try again; and when they do he wants his new world ready to fight back.
This novel, and the series of which it is a part, will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy, Dungeon Core, and LitRPG genres; as well as those who enjoy playing RPGs.

I don't know why, but this line was so funny, "I really wished Father hadn’t made it so that the shield could speak out loud. It was a vulgar existence named Skjold."
