The Life and Times of Angie Bardot

Rate this book
IS THERE LIFE AFTER?

Setting out on her adventures, Angie is best described as endearingly tragic as she gives a truly laugh-out-loud account of what could possibly go wrong when her long-term marriage comes to an end. Extolling the many pitfalls of being single is no laughing matter and being thrown into the dating arena is even worse.

When curiosity to view a certain piece of the male anatomy takes priority, bedlam unfolds. Angie’s journey will leave you in fits of laughter while raising your eyebrows in absolute disdain.

Taking you from “Hell No” to “Hell Yes,” this two-part true story taps into a range of emotions as you travel along with Angie on her voyage of self-discovery. A captivating exposé of courage and raw honesty in finding a new beginning when life takes a nosedive, this compelling portrayal of compassion gives insight into the weakest and strongest moments of what it is to be human.

You will fall in love with Angie and won’t be able to stop turning the pages to see what she will do next. To err on the side of caution is not Angies strong suit. Heart wrenching, yet hilariously funny in the unique style of telling her tale, it’s never a surprise when she ends up on several occasions with her tail between her legs!

Does she ever learn?

This book is one of a kind, and better still, so is Angie Bardot.

“What an inspiring, self-reflecting, self-effacing, honest, eye-opening sex goddess she is – I loved it!” MARY - WHO WANTED TO KNOW MORE

“Uplifting and HILARIOUS, I’ve never, ever laughed so hard. I literally couldn’t stop reading.” VANESSA - WHO ISN’T A READER

What happens when you find out your husband of 36 years is having an affair?
I loved the way this story/memoir was told, I felt like I was sitting with a friend listening to her woes over a cold glass of wine. Funny, shocking at times, but an honest look into life after marriage, dating, relationships and finding your true self again. An enjoyable read, if I'm allowed to say so.

Move over Bridget Jones. There’s a new queen of heartbreak and humour and her name is Angie Bardot.

This revealing memoir by Angie Bardot was certainly written from the heart. On the surface, my and Angie have very little in common as both our nationality, gender and ages are wildly different, however we can all at least relate to the devastation of a relationship breakdown and the effect it has on the most injured party. This frank and honest true story takes such a sad situation and really breaks it down, exploring just how it turns Angie’s world upside down from something as simple as checking a text message. It was great to follow Angie through this journey, first as a victim to a survivor, and then a thriver in her new life.

The writing style is the most distinctive part of this book. I can imagine Angie sipping wine whilst retelling these tales (especially one that occurs in the early part and relates to her revealing too much near a mirror). It is relaxed and welcoming, engaging yet informal, and this is certainly the book's strength. You feel like Angie’s friend whilst reading this book, which is something that is hard to portray in writing.

As I have mentioned, Angie is perfectly honest about herself and her situation, and you can see this in her character arc. She admits her flaws and her shortcomings, and in Chapter Nine you see her revelation in that she often looked down on single women, only to find herself in the same situation all of a sudden. She undergoes a great deal of soul-searching throughout this book, and it is apt that I compare her to Bridget Jones at the start as they both follow a similar story, just the other way around.

Reading this book, I could feel the author come to the keyboard and really bash out the years of frustration and anger. I get the feeling that if me and Angie met in real life then we would be friends, as she sounds like a riot! All in all, I admire her audacity in turning a very personal and painful story into something that will help and entertain many others in a similar situation.

This is a very well-written self-reflection on life after divorce. It is apparently autobiographical, but the author has such a sense of her own character voice as she narrates the story in a stream-of-consciousness style so well that it could easily be the transcript of a master stand-up comedian delivering a stage performance. She tells about the ups and downs of trying to get what she wants out of a world full of men. Some are horrible. Some merely make us wince. And even when she finds one she confidently calls her Dreamboat, she realizes that sometimes her Dreamboat is the Titanic and sometimes merely a canoe.

This story is very cunningly done and I highly recommend it to any adult who thinks they are grown up enough to understand the truths the story reveals about life.

The first half of the book was hilarious. Even though Angie’s life was unhappy, she delights her readers with realness and self-depreciating humour. The style of writing and subject matter is like talking to her best friend. She bares her soul in such a funny, yet honest way. Her ex-husband has been cheating in her throughout their long marriage, yet she keeps trying to make it work, until she doesn’t. Finding a life for herself is the furthest thing from easy, yet she writes so brutally honestly, it’s very enjoyable. Her descriptions are so comical.

The second half turns serious. She meets a man she feels she can’t live without, even though she knows he dates other women. He was like Mr. Big from Sex and the City. Extremely handsome, caring and sexy. She struggles with knowing she must free herself from him and having no idea how to do that.

Cute and entertaining

This book has a Bridget Jones flavor to it. It's relatable with sassy humor woven through it. It is written in a narrative style. Even though it's not what I usually read, I enjoyed it well enough. Good job.
