Strong language and violence. Henry is a family man and life-long prepper, who lives in a historic neighborhood in a small Appalachian town. One evening he receives the call that he had always hoped would never come. Now he has less than 20 hours before the world comes to a stand-still and society begins to break down. But, getting the supplies and gathering his friends will be the easy part, once the world stops, the difficulties actually began. Henry must walk the line of protecting his family and friends, while not drawing unwanted attention from his neighbors and what remains of the local government. The arrival of long lost family looking for help, may be the end of him... That is, if his nightmares don't drive him crazy first.
Henry just doesn't play, I really couldn't put this book down . From the beginning it kept in the loop and Dee was a wife and a great partner, but the the story was just to short overall great job. Just enough entertainment, action and likeable characters to keep me engaged. I can hardly wait until the next installment from Mr. P.D. Clover so I can accompany him on this wonderful journey of imagination.
I generally don't like giving poor reviews as I think most authors work hard to create a good story that many, if not most, people will enjoy. Some fall so short that I cannot finish the book, as was the case with this. First, there were many grammatical, word usage and other writing/editing errors. If you chose to author any written piece, it is only responsible to make sure you craft it using proper English and writing techniques. There were a lot of specifics with respect to the gear and other items the main character had on hand, including all of the brand names; this was so prevalent that I expected a pop-up asking if I wanted to buy one. The cause of the disaster is an astronomical event, though it is not actually clear given that no large pieces were going to strike the planet, that it would cause the level of disruption and dystopia as the author envisioned. As annoying as these issues were, they would not have been enough to earn a one-star. The author (via the main character) has a very obvious contempt and hatred of all things liberal and left-leaning. This drum beat continues through out the book and once my neck was sore from shaking my head, I should have bailed on the story at that point. Most post-apocalyptic stories have some level of violence, but this one is ultra-violent starting with a homeless guy that cuts out his own tongue. In many books in this genre, the breakdown of society and law and order is an opportunity for very bad guys to be able to operate without fear of the law. This book is the rare case where that is true of the main character. He plans to casually kill his brother-in-law (who did a pretty bad thing in the past) and clearly has a lot of anger management issues. Some of the preparations he was making before the event were kind of interesting, but after the event starts, we have very little focus on how he and the neighbors are going to survive, but instead are treated to a horrible child-abuse situation that started before the actual disaster. The main character and his trusty sidekick don't just eliminate the people responsible for the atrocity, but torture and kill them in the most terrible manner. It was way over the top. I should have stopped there but was sure the local law enforcement might have something to say about that. Nope! Then we find Alex Jones is back on the air and the MC and his cadre are singing the praises of that miscreant. I had to bail and am mad at myself that I made it that far. The author made such of point of his anti-liberal/left bias with such gross characterizations of what someone of the left might be like, he presented with a grotesque characterization of someone on the far right. Needless to say, I won't continue with this series or any others by this author.
Take a real possibility of events. Then add in a group of people who have been preparing for years with real plans. Add in some guys who have been there and done that who also train others. Since this is a what if story, they have the resources to survive. Note, if you don’t have the commitment and resources you won’t survive. The actions and the violence are the real thing. The bad people are the tip of the iceberg. the sheep are just sad because they had time to prepare and now are going to suffer and die.
I really liked this book as I'm a fan of emp apocalyptic books that I can relate to. This book checked all my boxes! Good read, good story, good human taking care of family and a take no shit main character!
This was a great book it did have a few places a proof reader would have helped. There were some parts that !are me laugh, and some parts that made me not want to put the kindle down. I even read till the battery died and I was mad at myself for not being able to finish the book. Don't waste any time and please get book 2 written soon I want to read it as soon as it is available.
Whew. I am exhausted from reading this book so fast. It moved at such a rapid pace I couldn’t stop. Great plot and good character development. Can’t wait for book 2.
Edit…I wanted to say that I didn’t care for the right wing rhetoric espoused by the main characters. I get tired of the far right describing all democrats and liberals the same. Just like the fact that not all republicans are Trumpers, or MAGA or ultra conservatives trying to go back to the 50s
That is so.e Harvey shit. I know that most of us live in our on little world, and that their is all kinds of bad stuff in this world.I think this Arthur has and will wake a lot of people up.my son went to desert storm and 2tours then one in panamal to take out noragia.he is still messed up and that's been a long time ago.I can't or he won't talk to me but I'm very proud he has a wife that is a supper women she keeps him grounded. This may be fiction but I know what he went through.he was in special forces.this author is a great 2485534 or never read his or her books but I will try and find more books by this Arthur.some how it mad me just realize what kind of he'll my son could have gone through.he is very nervous all the time and has pulled away from me,he is my only son and he knows how high I hold him therefore he pulled away after Panama and it just got worse.Thank you for being the 2485534 you are.
I love a good apocalyptic story and loved that this one told a great story, different and included retribution for a topic close to my heart. When children are hurt physically and psychologically I get distressed and enjoyed reading that the perpetrators were handled in a manner befitting their heinous activities. If only it were that easy in real life! The main characters had me engrossed in the story. They were very different and were portrayed differently from many characters I have met in books before. There were a number of spelling errors but they did not detract from the story!
I read ita lot of this type of "book", parentheses because it's not a book, like a lot of theu, but rather a group of chapters that end with no closure (like a book does). Good: not a ton of grammatical errors, interesting twist on how they got so well prepared, plausible timeframe for everything going to hell, balanced depiction of authority. Not so good: super warriors that say over and over and over " we've got to do better" when making rookie mistakes, so dang many "kits" and so many descriptions, worst nickname for a spouse ever, ending with zero resolution, 4.5 rating. What is with Amazon ratings? 999 out of 1000 are4.5 so they're meaningless.
Despite a terribly obvious lack of a proofreader there was enough originality in dealing with a much abused storyline - preppers after the big one happened - to encourage me to go for the last page. However, I quit totally disgusted, when suddenly Alex Jones' broadcasts appeared as the mandatory symbol of hope and better days ahead. When I want to read total fantasy I'll go to books about magic and dragons and glowing swords.
Just starting it. I love apocalypse type books. Unfortunately he immediately makes a point of describing "left leaning" people as entitled and therefore not receptive to preppers or survivalist type scenarios. I can't imagine why he thinks that but I don't hold a lot of hope for his intelligence. We'll see.
I like that it did not focus so much on the event, but more in-depth character story. It's a bit hard core and contains some pretty brutal scenes but all are appropriate for the scenario. Henry and Matt will protect family, I wouldn't want to cross them. They are my kind of heroes.
Anyone who would believe that dips$it after Pizza Gate and Jade Helm I have 0 respect or care to listen/read anything from them. Would be nice to read books with FACTS instead of blow hard opinions that insight violence towards others. Hope you have another job! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
The main character is a psychopath he loves to kill, murder people because he finds the need, not because it's needed. His security sucks, when out sprawling he forgets the basics . Thinks he's a tough guy and tells everyone he's a killer. Author writes well but the situation in this first book are not dire yet but he's off the wall.
Well mostly about every kind of gun that is made they have. Talk about type of guns and what they do tirelessly. They have enough money to buy warehouses of food and camping supplies and so much much. Lots of violence
You're really going to find this book hard to put down. It grabs hold of you from the start and keeps you hooked all the way to the end. Some parts will make you want to cry while others will have you laughing.
Great story. Hard to think that could actually happen. This story kept my attention with all the things happening. Note to the author. Don't kill off any of the main characters, including Bill.
The book itself was ok, but there were so many spelling and grammatical errors. I had a hard time getting through the book for that reason. Probably won’t ready any more of his books.
Story line starts things off pretty well. Different twist on how a world reset begins. Little close to home when it brings up how covid was handled. Would recommend hope they continue with the series
Hope you enjoy a roller coaster and some fast reading. The words just roll of the pages and you are instantly hooked. Some of the writing is shocking and some people will be offended. Not for the faint of heart.
The story is ok. Could have developed side characters better and woven them into the story instead of just killing them off. Interesting end of country cause and I liked the concept of letting the big cities eat themselves,
What happens when scary people no things are gonna happen along with scientists
This is a strange book while different It does distinctly Show alternative things to what could happen. Personally I know that there are people like this And who could do this.
I cannot continue to listen to the awful self-aggrandizement, the disregard of others, the hateful name-calling, etc of the first person character of this. If he is the kind of person who survives, we are all doomed.
