Having sex to improve your Tao and gain immortality sounds kind of lit tbh

CW: Graphic violence, sexual content, dub con, age up trope (think Nell from Bleach)

This series has some pretty fantastic pacing, and even the slower moments are spent wisely. We get some answers about the island and it’s inhabitants, and we get to see a bit more out of each of our “newer characters”.

I was a bit disappointed this went the way of having an Age Up type character while also including weird comments about it. I get that the character is immortal and older than pretty much every person currently in the story minus a few, but it just hits wrong.

I am still loving the weird twist and turns this is taking, and the imagery is unsettling in a compelling way.

"those who have something to lose are powerful."

3.5/5

i love how the magic in this world requires both strength and weakness to work, that's such an interesting concept. also, chobe and toma my new favorite evil siblings. on the other hand, gantetsusai is annoying as hell - sick of the guy who makes weird sexual comments about girls for comedic effect archetype in shounen manga.

(tw for attempted rape/dubious consent)

I’m still such a fan of this series’ use of weird elements and unsettling imagery! It works so well, given the fucked up origins of the island, of which we finally got to learn more in this volume. I gotta to say though, I’m annoyed that we’re still entertaining the “weird sexual comments after ageing up” trope for laughs and I didn’t really expect it to pop up, given this series subversion of certain classic Shounen manga tropes.
Anyway, I’m curious how this series will continue. It’s completely unpredictable, at least for me, and that’s one of the major strengths of Hells Paradise.

I love the balls of this series to go "yo, you wanna get stronger? It involves fighting like crazy and then having sex" that's pretty great actually.

We get a good bit of action, lots of hands being thrown, and some lore dump. All in all a satisfying volume, I just need to not take a year off from reading next time.

This manga continues to be very well-paced, the art continues to be amazing along with the interesting characters we're following.

Tao is a life force/ energy that ebbs and flows as you do certain things - the island is a “garden in a box” created by lord Tensen to create a controllable Tao and now the creatures that have been bred on the island are going to carry out his plan by turning everyone into juice even mainland Japan!! Such a crazy story - lots of eastern religion and mysticism rolled into a creepy, violent adventure

Warnings: body horror, graphic violence, dubious consent, sexual content and nudity

Gabimaru faces against Chobe while still suffering from the effects of overuse of Tao, as in, losing his memory. He only remembers what he is - not even his mission, and going up against a tao user while himself not remembering how to use it? Not recommended! His fire attacks keep them at an even level, but with Chobe regenerating and then losing himself to the plant monster part of him spells trouble for Gabimaru. Mei uses her own power to get them away at a cost to herself, and then they all meet up with the other group, with Toma in tow as a captive. Chobe meanwhile encounters Rien who has come to check him out, and, well he is no match right now against the Tensen is he?

With all of them reunited, they can formulate their next plan of action. Getting off the island should be a priority but getting to the elixir is of import to Gabimaru. We know from the further explanations provided by Mei, about how the island is created, and what the Tensen are, but the elixir is still out of reach. And as the reinforcements make landfall, it seems their troubles are about to multiply. With the Iwagakure, who are in a large number, ordered to kill Gabimaru on sight, it is going to make one very awkward meeting for all involved. With the numbers of the Yamada Asaemon clan so few, I have doubts as to whether they will be able to stand against them, if they even do. It is going to be a vicious battle in the next book, I suppose!

I really, really, REALLY like the pacing of this series. I was nervous when I heard the series ended and it would only be 13 volumes, but the pacing's been both tight yet quick that I have no doubt it could wrap up nicely at 13 volumes.

This volume was full to the brim with incredible fight scenes, and I loved the imagery in the fight between Chobe and Gabimaru. First off, that fight was dope to begin with, but that scene where Gabimaru is starting to remember his wife, she puts her hand on his shoulder, and he uses his aura to cut her arm off was SO cool. Shadows and paneling really make the fight scenes pop, though sometimes it can be hard to tell what's going on.

More worldbuilding is given and we finally get a better idea as to what the island is and why such strange events are occurring. I'm amazed that I never feel like the exposition is boring or is bogging down the story, despite there being a lot of exposition to dump. While I wouldn't say this is the most compelling story, the mystery-horror elements keep me engaged.

Anyway, this was another great volume in a series I'm shocked I love as much as I do. Well done, Kaku!

Another really good volume of a crazy horror/action-packed/mystical adventure.

This time we pickup where we left off. The two fighters dish it out and brutal blows to each other leave one pretty much "dead" if you can say that. Then we have a more tender moment of two trusting each other once more while gaining their memories back. I'm being vague cause everything at this point is a spoiler but the ending with a fuck session turned to gain more powers seems intriguing...

"Los que tienen algo que perder son los más fuertes"

Los hermanos Aza están a otro nivel. En especial, Chôbei. Este personaje es superior a los demás y confío en que seguirá regalándome momentazos (y con total seguridad, lágrimas). Este ha sido su tomo.

Se ha resuelto algún que otro misterio, ha habido un poco de drama y el destino de los protagonistas (para mí, lo son todos) cada vez pinta más crudo.

Cero decepciones con esta historia.

Bruh, the whole sex to grow stronger? Yeah, that’s pretty cool honestly and I’m all for it. 🥵😂

The way I am shipping Gabimaru and Sagirin is unhealthy. I need them to be together.

And Levi look a like who just got to the island? LFG 😍😍😍

Not a whole lot happening. Just a lot of explanations, but the gang is all back together with additions this time. Everyone is getting to know each other while still being suspicious.

"I am your dear friend and ally.. place your trust in me." 🥺

- Yuzuriha and Sagiri 👀👀
- Chobei... this is going in a weird direction. I don't know if I am a fan of this, but your character is interesting, so I hope you are kept around.
- Shugen you came around just at the end like 😠 and I'm like 🥰 lol. On a serious note though, he has a lot of Tao too, and I'm curious to know how much of a problem he is going to be.

OK, that Botsu Jutsu thing is disgusting. I couldn't believe it would have happend to Mei some volumes before and now Chobe has to do it?! But even in that moment, when he had no way out of that situation but to have sex with Rien, he thought of his brother and that he should strengthen his tao to save him. He pretty much used his body in exchange of information from Rien for the island.

That was a weird volume: the botsu jutsu, Gabimaru getting back his memories, the characters teaming up, learning who created this island 1000 years ago and that he might still be alive and living in the island and the ship with the executioners of the Yamada Clan and the shinobi from Iwagakure finally coming to the island.

I don't know what will happen next and I'm a bit scared of the outcome of Botsu Jutsu and what will the newly introduced characters do.

4/5 Stars (%78/100)

This was better than volume 5 in my opinion. It was revealed in the previous volume that Gabimaru somehow lost his memories. Therefore, this volume focuses on Gabimaru and the people around him. The fights were good again. I'm super curious about Aza Chobei's future as he seems very interesting (of course other than Gabimaru). We also learn more about the island and its inhabitants. In addition, there are some new characters who are sent as reinforcement. The author is not shy about killing important people so right now I don't know who will survive.

Goddamn, this is some good shit.

First mental breakdown since starting this series btw, cuz I thought one of my favorite characters died.
Turns out, not yet. But I trust Kaku as much with keeping my faves alive as I do with Fujimoto and Akutami :') so ... yeh.

Chobe is probably the most interesting character out of the whole group and seeing his journey is honestly my favorite part. And I hope Gabimaru’s wife is actually real bc if not that would be too sad
